SVQ3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development
YOUR LOCAL COLLEGE
Why should I consider an SVQ3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development course? Do you want to develop your existing skills to help you work more knowledgeably with children from 0-16 years of age? Do you want to embark on a career in childcare at Practitioner level? Do you want to work towards a recognised professional qualification which will enable you to study further at degree level and beyond? If yes, then SVQ3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development is the right course for you. Taught full-time, this course is suitable for both school leavers and more mature students wishing to return to learning or looking to change career direction. The course is designed to help you develop further the theoretical and practical skills required for progression towards a career in the childcare industry. The course will be very practical in nature and students will spend three days each week in placements which will allow them to gain hands-on experience in the workplace.
The course will introduce the following required areas: •
Develop and promote positive relationships
•
Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
•
Promote children’s development
•
Reflect on and develop your own practice
•
Protect and promote children’s rights
You will also be able to study four additional units in areas which interest you specifically. These will include: promoting health and physical development in children, early intervention for the benefit of both children and families, leadership qualities, developing a childminding business, supporting children who have experienced trauma and supporting parents with numeracy, literacy and language needs.
Where will I study?
The course will be taught at your local centre.
What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course?
Potential students require four Standard Grades at Level 3 or above. In addition, students may have successfully completed Towards a Career in Childcare, SVQ2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development or Open Door to Childcare.
How can I continue to develop my childcare skills? A natural next step for those students who wish to develop their skills further would be BA in Child and Youth Studies.
