Why should I consider a Hairdressing SVQ Level 2 course? Do you want to learn the basic practical skills required to work in a commercial hairdressing salon? Do you want to enhance your employability skills and career prospects with a qualification that will prepare you for employment in the salon environment? Do you want to work towards a qualification which will enable you to study further at SVQ Level 3? If yes, then this course may well be the right course for you. You may be a school leaver looking to study for a future career or you could already be working within the salon environment but looking to improve your skills. The course will help you develop your skills and gain confidence and practical experience in a wide range of salon-based skills. The course will introduce the following areas: •

Health and Safety

Advise and consult with clients

Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

Style and finish hair

You can also choose to study one of the following additional units: •

Salon reception duties

Promote additional services or product to clients


Where will I study?

The course will be delivered full-time over one year at your local centre. Students will spend one day each week in a commercial salon environment.

What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course?

Potential students require no specific qualifications for this course. Part-time students must, however, be in employment – eligible under the skillseeker programme – or be self financing.

Will I receive a recognised qualification?

Yes, upon completing the course you will achieve an SVQ Level 2 qualification.

How can I continue to develop my skills? After successfully completing the course you will be able to progress to Hairdressing SVQ Level 3.
