Sponsored by AHA Services, Inc.

New Leadership: Why You Matter

Ben Nemtin, Author, Professional Speaker, Co-Star of MTV’s The Buried Life, Los Angeles, California Throughout life, you have been setting goals for your career, college, relationships and finances. Have you created that “bucket list” of your own dreams? When was the last time you did something just for you? Psychologists say that creating such a list promotes mental health because it gives you a vehicle to achieve your dreams, keeps you energized and you avoid burnout. Prioritizing your personal goals isn’t just for your benefit – it also benefits your organization. Companies with a people-first culture see measurable improvements in productivity, lower absenteeism, higher customer satisfaction and improved recruitment (Harvard Business Review). This is a new form of leadership: by putting yourself first, you put yourself in a position to serve others. It’s not selfish; it’s service. In Ben’s leadership workshop, he facilitates exercises that drive attendees towards their goals by implementing tiers of accountability, he inspires action through masterful storytelling and he provides tangible take aways.

C-Suite Burnout and Possible Cures (ACHE/AHEF Panel, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) Vickie Henderson, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Russellville, Arkansas (Moderator) Ashley Anthony, BSN, RN, CEO, Delta Memorial Hospital, Dumas, Arkansas Kathy Thomas, MSN, RN, Chief Compliance Officer, White River Health System, Batesville, Arkansas Matt Troup, FACHE, President and CEO, Conway Regional Health System, Conway, Arkansas Panelists will discuss strategies and approaches that address well-being and resiliency for health care professionals in today’s health care environment. Even when leaders recognize this as a problem, they are often presented with confusing information or get-betterquick solutions that bring no lasting change and can sometimes increase cynicism among employees. During this panel, participants will learn the importance of sustaining well-being for health care professionals in today’s health care environment. 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Continuing Education Hours Provided for Panel 5.0 Continuing Education Hours Applied For: ACHE Qualified Education Hours, Arkansas Office of Long-Term Care Hours, Certified Professional Healthcare Quality Hours and Nursing Contact Hours 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ARKANSAS HEALTH EXECUTIVES FORUM BOARD MEETING – Peck Room 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP LUNCHEON – Salon B

Rich Bluni, International Speaker, Studer Group, Winter Springs, Florida

Health care is one of the few fields that affords one the opportunity to impact lives on a profound level, not only physically also 2-4, emotionally2019 and spiritually. Yet, the same qualities that make health care so deeply rewarding can also make it a C TOBbut ER challenge, over time, to sustain your energy and passion. Whether on the frontlines of direct patient care or at any point of TT ANDtheSTATEHOUSE CENTER health care spectrum,CONVENTION we all need to feel attached to the “why” of our work. Bluni demonstrates why those of us who call health care our life’s work must also take care of “self” in order to be able to do the challenging physical, emotional and intellectual work that it takes to serve others. In this thought-provoking and inspirational presentation, Rich reminds all health care employees, through the use of stories and humor, why we chose this profession. His personal stories illuminate those sacred moments we all experience. “Inspired Care” is a welcome validation that, when we stay engaged and committed, we’re more likely to provide extraordinary patient care and make a difference for those we serve – and those with whom we work – in terms of both clinical outcomes and human connection. 1.5 Continuing Education Hours Applied For: ACHE Qualified Education Hours, Arkansas Office of Long-Term Care Hours, Certified Professional Healthcare Quality Hours, Nursing Contact Hours and Risk Management Hours 3

KEYNOTE ADDRESS Sponsored by AHA Services, Inc.

Challenge of Change Joe Theismann, World Champion Quarterback, Broadcaster and Entrepreneur Joe Theismann knows how to deal with the Challenge of Change. On November 18, 1985, he was on top of his game—a two-time Pro Bowl player and the most productive quarterback in the history of the Washington Redskins. Later that evening, he found himself in a hospital bed with a compound fracture to his leg, shattering both his career and his boyhood dream. At age 35, he was faced with starting over, both in his personal life and professional career. In this stirring presentation, individuals and organizations learn how to tackle change by keeping a positive mental outlook and committing to a vision that guides you to the top.

This session includes a primer on design thinking as a problemsolving framework as well as numerous useful examples of how we can make health care more human-centered. 1.5 Continuing Education Hours Applied For: ACHE Qualified Education Hours, Arkansas Office of Long-Term Care Hours, Certified Professional Healthcare Quality Hours, Nursing Contact Hours and Risk Management Hours

Making Quality and Safety Data Meaningful to Health Care Consumers Shawn Gross, Vice President, Digital Transformation, ReviveHealth, Boston, Massachusetts Ochsner Health, located in New Orleans Louisiana, recognizes that consumers don’t define quality the same way the health care industry does. Putting aside pie charts and bar graphs, Ochsner set out to reimagine the quality and safety data experience turning measures and data visualizations on their heads by developing a patient-centric, game-mechanics-driven interactive experience. The result? Ochsner gives consumers the ability to personalize their experience as they learn about quality data and how Ochsner performs compared to industry benchmarks. The interactive experience supports consumer decision-making, CRM growth, and serves as a high-value content engagement tool for content marketing and advertising initiatives. It’s a health care industry first — attend this educational session to see a demo and get inspired for your next quality project! 1.5 Continuing Education Hours Applied For: ACHE Qualified Education Hours

Accountable Care Organizations: Formation and Financial Implications (ACHE/AHEF Panel) Bo Ryall, President and CEO, Arkansas Hospital Association, Little Rock, Arkansas (Moderator) Lynn Barr, Chief Executive Officer & Founder, Caravan Health, Kansas City, Missouri 6

Paul Gardner

Lenny Whiteman

Jake Poore

Paul Gardner, CPA, Vice President of Rural Health/ACO, Mississippi Hospital Association, Madison, Mississippi Lenny Whiteman, VP, Managed Care, Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville, Arkansas As reimbursements shift from volume-based to value-based, health care organizations are becoming more responsible for providing the resources necessary to meet the needs of a given population. Aligning quality of care with the appropriate level of care and services becomes pertinent to health care organizations’ bottom lines. It is imperative for health care leaders to develop programs that offer underserved communities an opportunity for a healthier tomorrow. Several pioneer organizations have developed population health improvement models such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) that force them to take responsibility for the beneficiaries they are serving. Current regulations require an ACO to serve at least 5,000 patients, but that patient population size carries significant risk. Other hospital associations are forming statewide ACOs that have 50,000 to 100,000 lives, and this significantly spreads the risk across many communities and hospitals. The panel will discuss ACO formation in other states and one health care system within Arkansas. 1.5 Continuing Education Hours Applied For: ACHE Face-to-Face Hours and Arkansas Office of Long-term Care Hours 6:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.

Attendees will dissect experiences from the patient’s perspective in ways that elevate clinical excellence, patient satisfaction and business results. They will also learn best practices in customer/patient satisfaction from organizations within – and outside of – health care. Poore will introduce the role of “chief experience officer” (CXO) and describe how this role can transform your organization. He will also describe how organizations have benefitted from hiring “experience management” professionals in the C-suite and how they have created global-to-local impact on their health systems.
