POMEGRANATE AS THE SYMBOL OF ARMENIA

T

his is the best season of the year when the nature has another surprise for the visitors to Armenia. The very late autumn is the best time to witness the amazing pomegranate flowers ripen into delicious fruits. For Armenians the pomegranate is one of the most recognizable symbols of the country. In Armenian mythology, it symbolizes fertility and good fortune. It was a guardian against the evil eye. At weddings in Western Armenia, a bride would throw a pomegranate and break it into pieces. Its scattered seeds ensured that the bride would bear children. In Van, Armenian women who wanted to have a son would eat bread made from dough mixed with pomegranate seeds. Its importance is attested in historical Armenian manuscripts and stone carvings where it was used as a popular ornament. One of the most iconic Armenian art

10

movies is that of Sergey Paradjanov named “The Color of Pomegranates”. In the film, the red pomegranate on a table with its wrinkled skin and fresh pulp stands out as an embodiment of the invincible soul of Armenia. Until the very day pomegranate is a commonly used theme in Armenian art and culture including cuisine. In fact, it has turned into a national cliché. Souvenir shops are filled with ceramic, metal, and textile pomegranates and pomegranateshaped knick-knacks. After the great tragedythe Armenian Genocide many artists have used pomegranates as a theme in their lyrics and poems to describe a wide range of emotions, from suffering to hope, rebirth and survival of a nation. The symbol of the pomegranate is related to insemination. It protected a woman from infertility and protected a man’s virile strength.

Discussion with the member of RF PR Association Assembly-Arman Kharazyan over Marketing and the peculiarities and the used modern methods of PR field in Armenia How is the modern consumer today? -Today the modern consumer is someone whimsy, that is promoted by the big variety of suggested services and goods in the market, and of course, there are consumers who can hardly orientate. Moreover, nowadays it is possible to read a man’s thoughts and wishes due to the knowledge on neuromarketing, the main aim of which is to make the consumer satisfied. There are many ways to effect on the consumer’s emotional field, but here it is very important not to confuse the wish of satisfying the consumer with the gambling of his mind, as when the consumer realizes the presence of the factor of gambling he is never back. It is very important that the consumer notices the very product or the service and gets positive emotions for buying the latter. For that, it is necessary to learn about the consumer’s emotional field and the process of his perception to use in the business. Despite of any national belonging each person equally reacts on the main emotional incentives. It does not depend on our wish; it is an active response of nerve system, which is automatically realized. Though the country’s culture and traditions can make some changes, biologically all people have the same construction. Nowadays are the classic schemes of marketing modern in practice? -Nowadays the old scheme of marketing does not work at all in practice. We live in a world that is changeable, unstable, undefined and complicated, which is unfortunately, not going to be changed. I think this is a very interesting period for creative people as the old model of employees does not have any function. We are in the century of strong mind and ideas. Maybe 14

many of us do not agree with my opinion, but I think the revolution is made. Before, for changing something, one would need good money or contacts, but today you can do it very easily by the computer via Youtube, Facebook and many other web sites. Of course, this is a great idea, as due to these tools one can change the world within 12 hours. What supports the progress of marketing? -The progress is noticed within the creative people as they possess new ideas and courage for realizing it. I think one should not concentrate on every new thing, as every new is the reflection of the old. I think every creative marketing specialist knows whatever he does, first of all, should interest people, attract and capture at once. Today the old model of marketing and management gives up its positions as nowadays people want to integrate in any process and show integrity by their participation. However, marketing must inspire people in their steps, as the emotions run the marketing at once. I think nowadays marketing is also an art except of being only a science: rational way of thinking leads to the conclusion, and the creative mind brings to some steps. That period is called the century of thought and bright imagination and the one who possesses these two important factors, wins. What do not you accept? -I do not accept the planning of work for months, the aimless discussions, I think instead of making yearly plans and not realizing them one should concentrate on the precise direction. It is better to realize the most important functions in a precise period and be always ready to overcome any obstacle, difficulties.

ONE OF THE BEST IN WINTER CUISINE TIME TO EAT KHASH

F

or Armenians bread is considered to be the Holy of Holies. Here comes the correspondence of Armenians as very hospitable, welcoming and friendly nation. In every Armenian home warm atmosphere influences where any guest is heartly hosted to share their bread together. Most visitors, hardly without any exception love to eat well. However Armenia is one of the best countries that offer very healthy and delicious food in its rich traditional cuisine. As it is already November and the weather is gradually getting colder, people are mostly keen on tasting hot dishes, among them the most favorable by many visitors is the so-called Khash- typical Armenian dish made of cow’s feet to which garlic, greens and salt are added. Khash is believed to be a food for the poor and is also thought to have a ceremonial meaning. The naming is thought to come from the Armenian word “khashel” which translated into English means “to scald.” Khash is usually consumed very early in the mornings, and it is either served before the breakfast or comes to replace the breakfast. It is served with garlic, salt, radish. Khash is a dish to be consumed only with vodka and when it is completely hot. Enjoy your stays in Armenia while tasting healthy and delicious food in the traditional cuisine during cold season.
