The recent opening of Elvira’s in Scottsdale’s DC Ranch brings an authentic—and iconic—taste of Mexico to the area. The restaurant first opened in Nogales, Mexico, in 1927, remaining a renowned tourist spot for 82 years before the founder’s grandson moved it to Tucson in 2010, where it continued to thrive.

Whether you’re visiting over Valentine’s Day or you’re here any other day of the month—or year!—and are looking for great date ideas, there are plenty of unique outing options. Here, some of our favorites.
ENJOY NATURE
At Desert Botanical Garden (1201 N. Glavin Pkwy., Phoenix; https://dbg.org), explore five thematic trails filled with 50,000 desert plants of the world, including (of course) the local Sonoran Desert. In addition to the stunning scenery, there are events and special exhibits, including LIGHT BLOOM by HYBYCOZO (through March 30), Music in the Garden (Feb. 7, 14, 28), and the winetasting experience Vines & Finds (Feb. 15-16).
Hiking is another way to explore the Valley’s flora, as well as stunning scenic views. There are numerous trails to choose from, including those on the iconic Camelback Mountain (Echo Canyon Trailhead: 4925 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley; www.phoenix.gov/parks/trails/locations/camelback-mountain), but Hole-in-the-Rock Trail (625 N. Galvin Pkwy., Phoenix;
