Message from the President of Silpakorn University

Silpakorn University has been holding the National Ceramics Exhibition from the past to present with objectives to support export industry, as well as encourage ceramics conservation and production development. This event also enhances understanding on the beauty of Thai ceramics to all public, and creates social values on the use of Thai products. On behalf of Silpakorn University, I feel honoured and grateful to H.R.H. Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who has graciously consentsupporting organizations, jurors, and award-winning artists respectively, as well as decorated ceramics, and granted H.R.H hand-painted ceramics for the exhibition. Silpakorn University would like to thank Tourism Authority of Thailand, Department of International Trade Promotion - MinPublic Company Limited, who kindly supported the 17th National Ceramics Exhibition and realised the importance of this event on the development of forms, techniques, and creativity concept.

Preface

year, the competition is divided into four categories of works, which are Contemporary Ceramic Art, Ceramic Handicraft, Ceramic Industrial Prototype, and the Best Ceramic Entrepreneur and the Newest Innovation. It is to encourage the creation and production of

trophy award and 50,000 Baht, and second prize award in each category, with a trophy award and 25,000 Baht. For this year’s result preneur and the Newest Innovation category, there are 3 award-winning selections. There are also another 143 sets of work selected to exhibit in this exhibition. All award-winning and selected entries are showcased at Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center in Bangkok between 11 November and 21 December 2014 with the opening ceremony on 12 December 2014. The Art Centre Silpakorn University is thankful to all supporting organizations, jurors, artists, and working committees, who make this 17th National Ceramics Exhibition a successful event.

Silpakorn University in collaboration with Tourism Authority of Thailand, Department of International Trade Promotion - Ministry of Commerce, with the support from Department of Industrial Promotion - Ministry of Industry and Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, is holding the 17th National Ceramics Exhibition with these following details. Types of Works 1.1 Contemporary Ceramic Art : ceramics that express artistic aesthetics using ceramic techniques, process, and public presentation. 1.2 Ceramic Handicraft : works that are unique in creativity and design, but can clearly express skills, competency, delicacy, beauty, and value in craft, or based on thoughts and techniques that are inspired by traditional craftsmanship, and have function or being decorative crafts by using all ceramics techniques and process. 1.3 Ceramic Industrial Prototype : works created must be completely produced for decoration and able to go through industrial production. Works must never been submitted to any competitions or produced for sale. They must express beauty, creativity, with suitable forms 1.4 The Best Ceramic Entrepreneur and the Newest Innovation : this category includes organizations, large - medium - small bodies, both private and public sectors. If it is private company, the owner must be of Thai nation, have industrial ceramics that are unique or use new innovation to the design, production techniques, distribution, packing, and business run. Remarks : All works submitted for this event must complete the ceramic production. Apart from the category 1.4, in which the jurors will nominate Submission of Works 2.1 Each artist may submit not more than 2 sets of work per each category, in which each set must not exceed 4 sq.m. Each submitted works must have attached photographs or sketch of installation requirement. 2.2 Works in category 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 submitted via post must be packed securely in wooden box or protective cardboard package to prevent damages. Silpakorn University will not take any responsibilities on damage of works that are caused from accidents or unpredictable circumstances. Application : Fill in the application with full name, contact details, and other information in Thai and English. 3D works or works that need to install, artists must attach sketch or introduction of installation together with the application form. In some cases, artist needs to install works by himself only. Eligibility 3.1 Thai citizens, who are not the jurors of this competition, can submit works that must not have been participated in any previous art competitions or exhibitions, except thesis exhibition, which is part of educational requirements. 3.2 Silpakorn University does not accept any works that violate the intellectual property. If any cases found, artist must be charged with guilt and Silpakorn University do not take any parts of such act. Jurors

Traditional Floor Tile For the conservation work of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Chantaburi Major conservation work of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Chantaburi was conducted on the occasion of the100th anniversary of the cathedral and the 300th anniversary of catholic community founding in Chantaburi province in 2009. The deterioration of decorative ornaments and materials required renovation and restoration of some parts; architecture, interior and surrounding landscape.
