Monochrome: Monochrome[1] describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or shades of one color.[2]A monochromatic object or image has colors in shades of limited colors or hues.[clarification needed] Images using only shades of grey (with or without black and/or white) are called grayscale or black-andwhite. MEDIUM: For your final outcome/main work, you must use Chalk and Charcoal on paper.
●
RELEVANCE: Your chosen model should be ‘school-friendly’ (little or no naughty bits on display). Your chosen model/pose should be a full human figure.
●
PRESENTATION: Prior to commencing work on your main/final outcome for this assignment you should present evidence of detailed and thorough research in your sketchbook/journal, with justifications that explain how your chosen model/ pose fits-in with the current project/assignment.

TIME: (approx 5-6 lessons) When you receive the deadline for this assignment, ensure that you submit your work on/in time.
A1: Monochrome Figure Support/ suggestions: Research - Explore, discover and find examples of ‘Life Drawing’ to see typical poses/ models. Find examples of art that use the human figure as the main subject/content of/ for their work. Be specific - Find a selection of alternative models/poses for your work, but eventually narrow your possible subjects down to ONE. In your sketchbook explain why you decided to use the pose/model that you did. Make connections - Try to find examples of art created by other artists that used a similar model/pose for their own work. Explain what the similarities and differences are between the work of other artists and that which you plan undertake for your own work. Include examples of artwork - Try to use examples of artwork created by the artists that use for you assignment. ● Explain these works of art, critique them using your own opinion and, the opinion of others. Provide arguments for, and against meanings/ reasons for the artwork. ○ Explain how the artwork was made. ○ What materials were used? ○ Why did the artist(s) use the materials they did? ○ How big/ small is/was the work? ○ Where can this work be seen in person (RL) and/ or via the web. ● All images used must include a reference to where they were sourced. If you find images using a search engine, you must include the actual website of the work, not the search engine name/ search criteria.
A1: Monochrome Figure The Brief: ● Create a large Charcoal and Chalk study of a chosen model/pose. ● This can be male or female, and your work should illustrate the human figure in full (head to toes). ● A full range of tone should be used throughout your work. ● Sensitivity to ‘LIGHT’ and the effects of such should be clearly present in your work. ● A full/ interesting background should also be present in your work.
