Assignment 3: Figure in Colour Assignment guidance:

The subject/ theme for this assignment is a continuation of ‘Human Form’. ●

Prior to starting this final ‘assessed’ outcome, during lessons you will/ should have produced a series of studies, sketch’s, drawings and outcomes, of the human figure demonstrating a ‘range’ of possible colour options, with a heavy emphasis of ‘Tone’.

It is important that your work for this assignment demonstrates your knowledge and understanding of ‘Light’ and ‘Tone’, and your ability to work using a limited colour choice.

In your sketchbook/ journal ‘prep’ or ‘practice’ pieces should be completed to allow you opportunity to develop, and explore a range of possible outcomes. This exploration could include: ○

Subject matter - ‘Mavis’ is the usual model (subject) for this work, although your teacher may provide an alternative life-model for you to work from.

Light Effects - Explore a few different ways that light may affect how the life-model looks.

Medium - Chalk Pastels are the medium of choice for this assignment, be sure that you demonstrate inside your sketchbook/journal thorough explorations, techniques and methods.

Document/record your developments with written ‘reflective’ comments/ annotations to ‘prove’ that you understand what you are doing.

You will receive more marks for using: ○

A ‘full’ range of tone, appropriately with clear knowledge and understanding of ‘light’ (cause/ effect)

Good structure and proportion.

Attention to detail(s).

A considered and effective background.

Clear links to your development work/ intentions.

This assignment is to be done on a large (A1 size) sheet of black paper.

Produce evidence inside your journal/ sketchbook to show that you have explored possible methods and applications, relevant to your work/ idea.

Read the Assessment Objectives carefully to ensure you know how your work will be marked by clicking on the ‘Assessment’ Main Menu link/item on the department website.

Use techniques that you have learnt in class to help your work develop using good basic structure.

Visit a ‘real’ gallery or exhibition for inspiration and help with your ideas.

Go to our YouTube page, and watch the demo’s/ tutorials.

Plan your assignment carefully using your sketchbook to write/ explain, and illustrate your intentions and ideas.

Take time to assess your work as it progresses and make changes where appropriate.

Record your work as it develops. Take a series of photographs that captures your work from start to finish. Present these photographs in your journal/ sketchbook, to provide evidence for AO2 and AO3 (Assessment Objectives).
