A2: Industrial Design OVERVIEW: AIMS: ● The aim of this assignment is for you to choose an area within the design industry to use as the focus of your own design work. Interested and Inspired by your chosen area of design, use your imagination to invent, design and present your own original concepts/design ideas. Your concepts could be futuristic (not possible at the moment), or realistically possible now. DEVELOPMENT: ● This is the 2nd and main assignment for the ‘Design’ project. Using your knowledge and skills developed in the previous assignment, your work for this assignment should be a ‘body’ of work that includes: ○ Title Page (A2: Industrial Design). ○ Mind Map ­ Indicating a range of possible design industries and ideas for each. ○ Initial ideas ­ Sketches of at least four of your ‘possible’ ideas. ○ Imageboard ­ Sourced images relevant to your chosen idea. ○ Elevational studies ­ Of you chosen ‘main’ idea, showing your design using a range of different viewpoints. OUTCOME: ● The main/ final outcome (A2: Industrial Designs) should be a large (A2 Paper) design sheet that clearly illustrates your chosen design, using full colour effectively and annotated with labels and explanations of how, what, why, who, where, when etc.

A2: Industrial Design Guidance:

★ During this assignment, you should begin by completing a series of development

tasks inside your sketchbook. ○ Title Page: ‘A2: Industrial Design’ This is likely to be set as a homework task by your teacher.

○ Mind Map: Your initial ideas for designs of your chosen design industries should be presented and explained as a mind map, list or similar.

○ 2D sketches/drawings of at least 4 of your initial ideas, using colour effectively and annotated with comments/explanations.

A2: Industrial Design ○ Imageboard ­ A collage (collection) of images relevant to your chosen design/idea. This is usually conducted as a homework task.

★ When you have completed the initial tasks, you will be confident and prepared to begin work on your main design sheet. This design sheet should be completed on A2 (size) paper. ○ Draw a 1cm border around the edge of your paper sheet. Inside this border clearly write: ■ The title of your design (top) ■ Your full name (bottom left) ■ Your full class name (bottom right) ■ The date (top right) ○ Next divide your design sheet into at least 3 sections:

★ Draw/illustrate and annotate your chosen design onto your design sheet using at least 3 different elevations.

★ Use coloured pencil and/or water colour paints effectively to your design and the background space.

★ Include comments that fully explains how your design functions/works.

★ If you complete this task early and need an extension activity, consider designing a poster that could be used as promotional material to help sell your SPOD!
