iA2: Narrative 11-20 OVERVIEW: AIMS: ● The aim of this assignment is for you to choose your own project (from the list, below) and then create your response/work through a series of developments. DEVELOPMENT: ● After selecting your chosen project, your work should begin by exploring how other artists have tackled the same theme. Using your research as inspiration your own original work should then develop by using a range of medium and techniques. You can/should combine traditional drawing with digital methods and record all of your developments directly onto your learning blog. OUTCOME: ● The main/ final outcome (A1: Narrative 1­10) should be an original and unique picture that tells some kind of story. Although you may use traditional methods during your developments, the main outcome should be a large digital painting using ArtRage Studio or similar program in combination with the graphics tablet.

● Look at the list of themes/projects (below) and select 2 ­ 3 that you find interesting:

11. Create a theater poster for a Shakespearean play. 12. Create a series of illustrations that shows a person aging. 13. Make an instructional poster for a favorite recipe. 14. Illustrate a day in the life of a cat, dog, fish, or monkey. 15. Make a picture book dummy. 16. Illustrate the seven days of the Creation. 17. Interesting stories to consider: The Odyssey, the Bible, Aesop’s Fables, Edgar Allan Poe, Shakespeare, nursery rhymes 18. Make a magazine cover for a current news story. 19. Illustrate a famous historical event from: 20 years ago, 100 years ago, 1000 years ago, Prehistoric times 20.

Illustrate family life in the future, at least 100 years from now.

★ During this assignment, you should begin by completing a series of development tasks. Although you might conduct some of these tasks on paper, they should ALL be recorded directly on your learning blog as individual blog posts: Title Page: ‘A2: Narrative (11­20)’ This is likely to be set as a homework task by your teacher. ○

○ Mindmap: Record your selection process by creating a mind map or similar which lists all possible starting points and ideas for each. TIP: Use Bubbl.us ○ Research: Conduct thorough research for each of your possible ideas and aim to find out how other artists/illustrators have tackled your selected themes. Recording your research directly on your learning blog. Then select/decide ONE of your possible ideas/starting points to develop further. ○ Imageboard: Find a range of examples (images) that are appropriate for

your chosen theme and present these as an image board and or iGallery directly on your learning blog. Include the sources for each image (where you obtained the images (URLs)). ★ When you have completed the initial tasks, you should be confident enough to begin work on your chosen project .

TIPS:

★ Use photography to help your own work. Take your own photographs of objects, people, places and then use them within ArtRage to trace over. ★ Use layers within ArtRage studio to allow you to explore/and experiment with scale and size of individual features of your work, Sketch/draw each feature on it’s own layer. ★ Play with composition. Move your drawn features around on your canvas to find out where they work best with each other. ★ Experiment with colour, apply a number of alternative colour options to your work/features until you find the best combination for your work.

ADVICE:

★ Be sure to save your work correctly: ★ Take ‘regular’ screenshots of your work during and throughout your development, and record these developments onto your learning blog with comments that explains your work. ★ Use a unique (relevant filename) and save inside your Yr9 > iArt > Story folder. ★ Save your work as a ‘layered’ file .ptg until your work is complete. ★ When your work is complete, export it as an image file and post a copy onto your learning blog. ★ Write a short summary, conclusion about your work.
