By Michelle Ward
Our 13th issue of Artinzene marks the 4th year anniversary of the birth of Artinzene Online Magazine.
having seen her perform live she has such an amaazing presence and gift for the spoken word.
In our latest issue Lousie Moriaty reviews my “Musical Birds Exhibition” in our featured artist section. She also inspires us with her poetic magic through hosting the Alternator Poetry night on a montly basis at the Dust Temple. “poetry uses language to invoke imagery. It is an intelligent way of evoking powerful feelings, whilst acknowledging the beauty and interconnectedness of both the distress and hope we feel for this moment of human life”.
We have a new writer this issue for our Health Section Daniela Kudo who is passionate about flower essences and essential oils and the healing capacity of nature. Her story is enhanced by the beautiful photography of Christine Cobden.
Beau Eastman shares his story about his love of wildlife, film-making and surfing. Veruschka Normandeau once again inspires her with her unique artistic photographic self portraits and her powerful story about how to create safety when you are facing major life changes.
In the Travel Section i share some photography from Morocco. Tessa Alexa Stanford once again touches our heart with her incredible story telling. This woman is creating massive change on a global level with her Academy of Authenticity. Thanks once again to all of our readers, writers, sponsors and artists for supporting our online magazine. "Musical Birds Exhibition by Michelle Ward" Written by Louise Moriaty
Michelle Ward delights us with Musical Birds. Feeling blessed to have been exposed to Michelle Ward’s latest creations. Michelle’s opening at the OneArts Gallery on the Isle of Capri was a perfect experience of the diversity and community that supports it. So many great artists have got a start there. It was the perfect setting nestled in the old trees of this park for her works titled musical birds.

Art To the ambient sounds of Kelly Penney we were exposed to several series of works with themes ranging from birds, music, waves and mindfulness. This is art with heart. Mixed media with text. As Michelle has walked her journey from hobbyist to professional you can see how her early experimental works have progressed. The subtly evocative colours in the resin works created a film of light which captured the imagination. Two larger pieces spoke of the joy of community, literally. As guitars mixed with affirmations which resonated the current trends in urban design to have well articulated calligraphic fonts bouncing out from multiple images. Like spiritual banners they sway in the breeze heralding celebration. A vision board for those looking to bring music and colour into their life. Buddhist motifs appeared throughout and with stones and colour balancing the mindful image, you were reminded to breathe and give yourself a still quiet space for your power to emerge. What of the birds you might ask? Owls and kingfishers as powerful totem animals were nested in an abstract background of vibrant layered shapes. And Michelle? Delightful as ever flitted from one little hub of people to another making sure she lived as her art reflected.

Spoken Word at the Dust temple by Louise Moriaty
Why Alternator? We get regular phone calls asking if we can fix people’s cars but that is not the business we are in. We are in the restoration of community, expression and hope. The experiencing love, belonging and connection business. Making possibilities go viral, amplifying the amazing nature of the natural world and sharing our wisdom to alleviate the suffering from things that give us grief. A dynamo in a car generates an alternating current. If you come to the Dust Temple on the last Thursday of the month you will be given a space to explore and alleviate, the contrasting emotions that go with living in this day and age.

Art We all speak in poetry. Whether we know it or not. Poetry is one of the first art forms, uses language to invoke imagery. It is an intelligent way of evoking powerful feelings, whilst acknowledging the beauty and interconnectedness of both the distress and hope we feel for this moment of human life. In this day and age where social media rules and disconnection feels like it is encouraged, the Dust Temple has for the last 5 years; been a base for a community of diverse and eclectic people. An ever-changing smorgasbord of people are able to be inspired, gain confidence and evolve through sharing their passion for articulating and celebrating their own personal renaissance and their observation of the sub-cultures we live in. Each poet no matter how ostracised or celebrated within the mainstream; takes the platform to be acknowledged by and to muse the audience. Embedding within our culture a powerful cultural reawakening to what is important if humanity is to survive these extraordinary times.

Poets have long been the mirror held up to society on how we are faring on the compassion and love scales. It has shown us the atrocities, anger and despair that resides within each of us. Then with acceptance and expression of the grief and sadness, it heals in an alchemic music that feeds the spirit. Loki Liddle and Louise Moriarty are cohosting this event. They collaborate with artists from the world stage, divining creativity that will inspire you to let the artist within roam freely. Bring your own work to share and if it is a month with 5 Thursdays, be prepared! Thats when the competition heats up. The competitive nature of the slams are designed to bring out the performance poet within and raise the stakes. Contact Louise 0417 830 040 or Like the Alternator Poetry Facebook page.

In April I will be on my next adventure and probably the most adventurous and challenging one ever. I will be going to Africa to film surfing and wildlife and turning it into a 15 minute documentary, all about what Africa has to offer to an adventurer. Im hopping to create motivational and inspiring documentaries for people to get up and go see the world what has to offer. Nature is the greatest gift all and we should always let nature be the artist.

I See You. I Know By Veruschka Normandeau
I see you. I know. How to create safety when you are facing major life changes “IN MY APPRECIATION I OFFER NO RESISTANCE (Abraham Hicks) Change is never pleasant, when in fact, it is the only thing certain and constant. Our mind always remains hopeful to a form of happily ever after, whether that is in a home environment, work or work out routine or a relationship that we are hanging onto for dear life because we know what the potential could be. And yet the seasons come and go and we have to adapt and bend with the winds of change. Still, the mind can never understand, yet the body knows the discomfort with our resistance and fatigue with a situation. Then comes the choice: sh*t or get off the pot. When our bodies can not handle going to the same job for one more day, when our inner dialogue is so worn out by not being heard yet again by a certain someone, when things are falling apart and you simply can not hold the pieces together anymore - there comes a point where you must choose your own self respect. As scary as the unknown seems, the unknown sounds way better than what you are experiencing. 28
artinzene/ Issue #13
ART Opening to change How do we turn our back to the old picture and confidently face the wild unknown? We start with acknowledgment. Find the highlights, find the grace, discover the beauty of what you were given. But it wasn’t fair! I was so misunderstood! I trusted them and they failed me! And that too. Yet we can not move forward when we are still a victim. Rewind. Look at the steps you have taken that have brought you here. It wasn’t pretty, it was challenging and you survived it. Allow yourself to acknowledge what other opportunities, which other qualities emerged for and from you as a result of your life situation? Are you still a good person, a contributing member of society? You can do this. Even if part of us feel we have failed our own expectations of outcomes, view and accept what did unfold and the silver linings with it - what is part of you now that you did not possess before? I find myself looking out at the sparkles on the water before me, in the comfort of a gloriously modern loft with white walls and high ceilings, watching herons lift their wings, seagulls glide over the water and land in it with ease and swans float by curiously. I have been plucked out of the jungles of Hawaii, next to new earth pumping out of the mountain and have landed in the chilly air of Amsterdam, right on a canal. It is dead silent. There are options to go to dances, to engage, to mingle with art at museums. And yet here I stand, transfixed by this time travel into an old earth, with dark buildings across the way and heavy clouds above. ARTINZENE / Issue #13

I feel lost. I have nothing going for me. Nobody knows I am here. My calendar is empty. I might be running on empty soon. The language is much more challenging to pronounce than I had anticipated. I feel weak - nobody to call, nobody to cry to, nobody to complain to. Miraculously, I made it here. But what now. It is freezing out. I do not want to move. I am afraid to say “I am this, I can do this, let me help you with such and such, feel good about engaging me and investing your time with me”. I am nobody. I just left the world I knew to come stand at this edge and face the unknown. And I am ashamed that my calendar is empty and that I created this. I am standing here feeling so isolated and irrelevant, unworthy and yet most of all - unappreciated. If our relationships via our hearthship are not being invested in, how do we know that we are valued and appreciated? If time is not being shared or invested in us, how do we spray our name with confidence into the space of the world, when it seems it evaporates as we attempt to make our mark and feel we are part of the game. This deep unappreciation is where I went. I turned the music up and danced and wept it out. I called on all of my ancestors, felt my mother’s and grandmother’s unappreciation and irrelevance and sent them so much appreciation. I felt so weak, such depth of failure and abandonment, I called on Mother Mary, Marilyn Monroe, Mother Theresa and every woman and archetype who has tried to make a difference - they all stood at the edge with me behind my back in this cosmic cave of despair. As grief poured like rain out of my eyes, as the spring sprung and my will cracked, the clouds parted across the way and the sun shone through like a spotlight, filling my face and my heart space with light and warmth. In that moment, I was no longer alone, I had shared in a deep well of experience that all have gone before me. I opened my eyes and looked around: I was seeing through eyes of objectivity and reward: I saw the white walls, not the endless weeds that need to be pulled in the jungle, I saw the tall ceilings that availed me silence and introspection and safety, not the call of the wild pulling me in 100 directions at once. I made it here, I called this in, I am remarkable to have the guts to say YES to a new adventure, with no safety promised. My mouth edges easily went up as this great appreciation grew in my chest, my eyes welled like a legion of angels witnessing great courage with pride and glory - witnessing - yes, magic exists, if we can believe it, we can perceive it and here I stood in my manifestation and took it all in with great strength.

This was no small thing, in fact, appearing like a miracle in this moment. I felt such expansiveness at the shamanic journey that had occurred inside of me, sending all of these revelations and discovery of personal power into the canal to be sent out to all who came in contact with this water and through the ethers. Surely, I could capture this moment in a selfie - which could not touch the worlds and galaxies that felt had celestially expanded inside of myself - certainly what reflected back paled in comparison, yet I suspended judgement as I continued on my appreciation journey. With every cell, I felt: I see you, what you have created, I know what it took, what pain and discomfort, what visioning, what conviction to get here. Here you are. You did it. Bravo. We can hear until we are blue in the face that the answers lie inside of ourselves…yet we can’t know unless we go to the edge of our biggest fears, face the unknown, since the known has not fulfilled our expectations and open to discerning whether fear is really fear or an invitation to have a cellular revolution with self appreciation. This form of allowing yourself to see your choices objectively, just as you may be able to see the strength of all of your ancestors brave choices for new worlds, is really the last frontier of approval you really need - the literal inside joke of this divine comedy called life. So next time you feel the fear of a new dawn, turn around and appreciate what you have left on your canvas thus far and welcome the next miracle already coming. Only you can create the safety you require to move forward by leaning back and being able to receive your own delight. This is how we collectively will change our world, one appreciation at a time. #IseeyouIknow Images made from the selfie of my eyes full of self appreciation & strength as it was dawning on me…. :) ARTINZENE / Issue #13

ART Poem by Starhawk Hear the words of the Star Goddess, the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven, whose body encircles the universe: “I who am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon among stars and the mysteries of the waters, I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me. For I am the soul of nature that gives life to the universe. From Me all things proceed and unto Me they must return. Let My worship be in the heart that rejoices, for behold— all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals. Let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you. And you who seek to know Me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not, unless you know the Mystery: for if that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find it without. For behold, I have been with you from the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.”

Words Are Powerful By Anna Mrez
Words we accept, no questions Words that we set in motion Applying them like suntan lotion Slip inside another layer to hide our broken Hearts and minds stay unspoken Disguised as a token of my affection Subtext undermining your perfection Projections of a notion that I’m better Attempt to pretend intentions don’t matter Before you say “no, I never” Really question yourself here What about those you love What about your sister, mother, father or brother What words do you spill in fights with your lover I’ve got a hunch, when it comes to the crunch All we really want is to stay atop of the bunch Even the ones we love don’t mean much When our ego’s packing a punch We declare our love via social media An arms race to prove we are superior Over a screen we seem more than others What’s behind the scenes, lurking under the covers

Art Words have power It’ a shame we choose To use words like a dagger Committing crimes of the mind Wordsmithing lies, cutting lines To silence night time cries Then we wonder why There’s a rise in suicides Sometimes we don’t even realise Words are powerful Rather than swallow our own sorrow Our hurt slips off the tongue onto the tip of a bowen arrow We shoot at others like there’s no tomorrow I don’t know if anyone ever told you so Every time you pull the trigger The hurt inside only gets bigger Momentarily your grief may simmer Ultimately the arrow reflects back into the mirror Pain for pain exchange, there are no winners Words of haste revealed as weakness Words of hate demand to be witnessed A soul does not request the quest for forgiveness A forced hand of fate laid out to face consequences Words are powerful Words are beautiful They can make you feel so full of love Inspire you to reach above Help a friend who’s come undone

The Flow of Emotions Assisted by Divine Gifts of Nature By Daniela Kudo Photography by by Christine Cobden - One Garden Flower and Nature Essences The Journey with Nature’s Gifts I am a very curious little soul, also an Aquarian girl, so my journey with spiritually started quite early in life. Along with that, feelings of being quite different than others and not being understood. I started my healing journey becoming a Reiki Master; that I actually never followed through so much because there was a longing inside me for something more, deeper, different… I guess the longing was really strong and I attracted the connection with the beautiful One Garden Divine Flower and Nature Essences, it was love at first sight… I found it! That has opened such a learning path for me that was so exciting but also so challenging. It has been eight years of lots of discoveries, good and hard ones. Ups and downs… Tears, tantrums, depression opening space for more love, joy, truth…

Divine ARTINZENE Gift by Christine 47 / Issue #13 Cobden
health Less than 2 years ago, doTERRA essential oils came into my life when I was at rock bot-tom. It came to add more to my learning and strengthening of connection with the divine gifts of nature that would lift me up higher. Divine Gifts of Nature I see the gifts of the Divine in nature, not only by their purpose, beauty, and nourishment, even mathematics. But also, the uniqueness of each nature element, their specific gifts, messages, energies‌ I found that the essences and the essential oils are not only beneficial to the physical wellbeing, but even better, going deeper emotionally, mentally and spiritually. As it is all related anyway. Everything that we create on our physical body comes from something deeper.

They are available to anyone; we only need to be open to receive their gifts. E - motions ( Energy in Motion) Emotions are energy that flows through us as we feel them. Pleasurable emotions flow easier, negative emotions usually are harder to feel so they get trapped. We have learnt as little children to shut down our emotions by our parents, they are afraid of pain themselves. Children learn to deny, judge and suppress their feelings, that they are not validated. As adults we still very immature in regards to emotions, even in understanding them. Many times we don’t even know what exactly we are feeling. 49 ARTINZENE Issue #13 Cobden Divine Flow by /Christine

The beautiful thing that is always on our path is the opportunity to use our free will to grow and learn more. In my experience, flower essences and essential oils are fantastic tools to use for this learning. False beliefs Beliefs are energies that are even more deeply rooted inside us. It also incorporates all the codes carried out on our DNA by our ancestors. We can say beliefs form the lens through which we see life. They form a framework that comes from the conclusions we make about our experiences. The beliefs we hold about ourselves are what we use to define our identity. We also learnt from childhood that some feelings and behaviors are good while others are not. We tend to judge, condemn and repress some behaviors instead of trying to understand them. So we have learnt that to be loved and accepted, we need to hide some aspects of ourselves a facade. 50behind artinzene/ Issue #13
Royal Welcome by Christine Cobden
health I feel that the essences and essential oils assist in illuminating the emotional patterns, encouraging us to identify and understand them so the trapped energy and associated emotion can be released, opening space to be replaced by positive and true believes that will serve us best. How the emotional healing can occur Therapeutic grade essential oils secure our physical health, providing us with some energy needed to enter the emotional realm. They are able to raise the vibration of the physical body. As the body lives in higher energetic vibrations, negative emotions such as stagnant anger, sadness, fear, judgment and low self worth start to become unbearable, the soul desires to release them. Emotional healing occurs as old feelings surface and are released, emotionally of course. This can be a quite confusing progress because we are not getting the instant relief from our pain, so it can appear as regression but it is actually the path for permanent healing. There is a process happening of realising and receiving, the old stagnant energies need to flow out so higher energies of love; harmony, joy and truth can take place.
Divine Knowing by Christine Cobden
It is important to say that the essences and essential oils don’t do the emotional work for us. They assist in creating an environment for us to do so; they are tools that can assist accessing and connecting deeper within ourselves. 51 ARTINZENE / Issue #13

Law of Attraction The Divine and our soul will bring events to allow the stagnant emotions to flow out. We attract what has a vibrational match. When we empty the negativity out we will stop attracting negative events in our lives, they won’t have any purpose anymore. In my experience, both the essential oils but especially the flower essences, can assist in bringing more awareness about the law of attraction and the reasons for everything that happens to us in our daily life. They can assist with clarity. Spiritual Awareness & Connection The knowledge about the power of plants has been integrated in many different cultures for many centuries. The knowledge sometimes almost gets lost but it always resurfaces with grace. The plants have always been used around spiritual practices.
In my experience the essences and the essential oils assist somehow in connecting us with the Divine, perhaps teaching us about some qualities of the Divine and by increasing the longing for this connection to occur. The desire to receive Divine Love can flourish and that flow is what will complete our healing and brighten up our soul. Finding our purpose As we start to deeply heal and connect with the Divine, we are able to have more connection with our true self, the divine souls we are. We can access our potentials and gifts to assist the Divine in brightening up this world. Other important points Combining the power of plants in the healing process with eating high vibrational food and movement of the body is very important for the release process along with jour-naling, meditating and praying. Seeking the professional help of an experienced therapist or psychologist can also be beneficial. ARTINZENE / Issue #13

health About the Author Daniela is from Brazil; she has been living in Australia for 14 years. She has a bachelor degree in Tourism, and has been working in this area for most of her life. During her time having a “normal job, spiritually has always been part of her life. She was very inspired by her godmother who was always learning different practices and bringing them back to the family. That is when she had the first connection with Bach Flower essences. However, Reiki was something she used to start the journey helping others with energies. She became a Reiki master with her aunt but actually never follow too much through. It was with One Garden Essences coming to her life that everything started to make more sense; she felt there was more truth in it. The essences also opened her up to receive the other great gift in her life, which are the teachings of Divine Truth. The doTERRA oils came to her life when she most needed them and the connection was instant and she also inspired by the platform of the company and felt the integrity could bring creation and expansion to her life. She left the tourism industry and now has her own pop up store, moving around easy access shopping centres like Stocklands in Burleigh and The Strand in Coolangatta. She does personal consultations with a beautiful flower reading through the essences that comes to the person in the cards. She then makes them a personal blend using the essences so they can take this home and feel the messages the essences provide. She also sells doTERRA oils, aroma jewelry and diffusers and gives workshops about different topics, including this of Emotions. The workshops are a great opportunity to experience the gifts of nature themselves, learn more and to connect with Daniela and others creating a beautiful local community of oil lovers. The Sacred Pause: A Story in Between Stories By Tessa Alexa Stanford She knew it wouldn’t take long. The tension had been building for days. Maybe lifetimes? With her head on the ground, the sound of music blaring through her cells and her hips spread wide on her yoga mat, it took less than twenty seconds for the burgeoning monsoon of tears to begin crashing down. Where was she? Where was this space she found herself in? Why was she here? She sensed she was falling apart in mourning whilst simultaneously rising in anticipation. She could feel the world shifting so rapidly around her. She was shifting so rapidly. And yet at the same time, she felt the world at a stand still. Neither here or there. Not coming nor going. It was like the world was on pause. And so was she. She was at a stand still. Frozen between moments. In between entrapment and sovereignty.

In between doubt and belief. In between dreams and reality. Mourning for a collective past which was no longer; a past that despite painful for so many, was familiar and predictable. Rising in anticipation of a future which so many, including herself, had predicted and envisioned for so long. It were as if she somehow knew things would never be the same, even though nothing had quite changed yet. Photo: Jared Rice 73

This was the space. The place. The pause. -The sacred pauseAkin to the stillness that could be found between inhale and exhale. The space between contraction and expansion. It felt soft here, yet it was not without friction. Slightly uncomfortable, slightly uncertain... but not completely unbearable. She had learnt to free herself by finding herself, over and over again. Uncovering more depth each time she did. Deeper layers of her soul beneath her skin. Deeper layers of trust beneath the fiction. Deeper layers of love. Today, she found herself here. Existing in a time, in between time. In a story, in between stories. In a world, in between worlds. So many outdated beliefs, systems, structures had departed.

Suffering, survival, stress. Old templates of relationships. The misunderstanding of love. She knew those who remained attached to these old ways would find themselves in pain. Was there more she could have done to prepare the others? She knew the new beliefs, systems and structures were already here. There was no more waiting for the world to change. It had. It really had. But the Earth was not rising fully yet. She was cleansing. Purging. Detoxing. Clearing the old to make way for the new. What seemed like chaos on the surface to humanity, was nothing short of the grand evolution of Gaia. And in the space between Gaia’s sweeping cleansing breaths- In the stillness between her inhale, and her exhaleShe paused. -The sacred pauseHere, she contemplates. She reflects. And silently-

LIFESTYLE In all her wisdomShe allows herself to celebrate. It has been a long journey. A long time coming. A commitmentOf galactic proportions. It would be easy to be hard on herself. To think she hadn’t done enough, to become lost in all there is left to do... To think she failed. But in this stillness, she let herself let go. She let go of all the stories. All of the old, all of the pain, all of the wounds. And as she let go, she shed tears of grief. She mourned for those who suffered along the way, for those are who suffering now, and those who would continue to suffer. Through the tears, she surrendered to silenceShe remembered her own strength, of how far she had come, and how much she sacrificed along the way.

LIFESTYLE She remembered she chose to do this. She knew it would be no easy task. But she also knew, she never liked anything to be easy. She was a warrior, a leader, a mother. Had she done enough? She asked for the truth to surface. She closed her eyes, opened her heart and listened. She surrendered to the space. Truth spoke, clearly. ‘You are exactly where you need to be. Although pride comes not from achievement aloneYou have achieved greatly. There is much to look forward toWith thanks to you. Thank you for signing up to this task, and for executing it so exquisitelyWith such love, compassion and wisdom. You are not alone.. You are never alone.’ She remained still, with her eyes closedOn her yoga mat. Unsure if she was the macrocosm pretending to be the microcosm, or the microcosm pretending to be the macrocosm, she rolled to her side, knowing whoever she was, where ever she was, she was not aloneAnd that she would rise again, soon enough, at the perfect time.
