The Competition, limited to young virtuosos under 16 years old, has seen prodigies possessing impressive skills, sophistication in interpretation and the poise of seasoned performers. Handpicked by Matsuev, four young pianists from Russia and China will make their HKAF debut: Alexandra Dovgan, Alexander Malofeev, Ivan Bessonov and Yichen Yu. Dovgan was the youngest participant ever, topping the contest in 2018 at just 10 years old. The 2016 Grand Prix winner Alexander Malofeev, now aged 17, has already set out on a promising career track – he has toured twelve countries spanning four continents and collaborated with prestigious orchestras and conductors that include the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. Bessonov and Yu were awarded the Competition's Audience Prize in 2016 and 2018, respectively, and have gone on to receive prizes and accolades in Russia and beyond.

For the second consecutive year, the HKAF will continue its collaboration with Chinese choreographers and the Beijing-based Young Artists' Dance Platform to build a stage for dance exchange that fosters artistic collaboration between Hong Kong and mainland China. The 2019 edition will infuse dance with theatre in a feature-length work, The Elephant in the Room, with Beijing-based choreographer Chang Xiaoni and creative performers from Hong Kong and Gansu. Chang will work with six creative performers to investigate personal stories in search of the elephant in the room. As their stories unfold, their performance will bridge borders— between contemporary dance and theatre, self-reflection and interpersonal connection, life and art.

Liu Chi Hang's Solo Exhibition CHAPTER III is going to showcase his current artworks at Anita Chan Lai-Ling Gallery. The artist finished this series of work by getting inspiration from the old stuffs. "Drug" is adapted from the work of the same name in Lu Xun's short story collection "Call to Arms (Nahan)". The whole play is composed of the original story and a new story. In the original story, it is a third-person narrative by Lu Xun. In the new modern story, the stream of consciousness is used as a contrast. It allows the audience to experience in a changing distance with the story and to explore the theatre in a different way from traditional drama. In the new story, the century-old shop is unable to resist the turning of the wheel of the era; in reality, how many old stores that accompanied our growth have disappeared in our lives silently? Lu Xun widely used symbolism in "Drug", which is very suitable for transforming into a theater language with a metaphor-like puppet. With live music, "Drug" leads the audience to travel through ancient and modern space-time and taste the bitterness and absurdity of the two old and new "prescriptions" .

《藥》改編自魯迅短篇小說集《吶喊》中的同名作品，全劇由原著及新編故事交錯編寫；原著中魯迅以第三人稱的手法敍事，新編的現代故事部分則加入意識流手法作對照，令觀眾遊走於與事件亦近亦遠的距離之中，探索有別於傳統戲劇的觀劇體驗。新故事裡，百年老店在時代巨輪的轉動下無力抵抗；現實中，我們又讓多少陪伴我們長大的老店默默地消失在我們的生活中？魯迅在《藥》中廣泛運用了象徵主義的表現手法，非常適合以含豐富隱喻性的戲偶轉化為劇場語言；加上現場音樂，帶領觀眾穿梭於古今時空，親身品嚐新舊兩帖《藥》的苦澀與荒謬。

獨立短片及影像媒體比賽 The 24th IFVA Awards 06.03-17.03.2019 電影大抵是現代人類的神話，媒體藝術展「CINEMA 2.0：雅各歷書」將建立一個如真似夢的國度，思考未來的神話究竟為何。同場展出今屆ifva 比賽媒體藝術組的入圍作品，作為支持亞洲電影與媒體的孵化器，ifva致力於不斷拓展亞洲媒體創新的邊界。來自本地以及亞洲的創作人，以媒體藝術作載體，重新思考人類與世界及其環境之間的種種有機關係。 Cinema is probably the modern vehicle for myths. Media art exhibition CINEMA 2.0: Acrylic Dreams creates a dream-like realm that explores, with different sensibilities and aesthetics, what myth is in the future.At the same venue, works by finalists of the Media Art Category of the ifva Awards are presented, too. As an Incubator for Film and Visual media in Asia, ifva has evolved to promote different visual cultures while exploring the boundless potential of creative media, with a cutting-edge vision and approach. These media art works re-examine the organic relationship between humans and their surrounding environment, and even, the entire universe.

歐洲電影節 2019 European Union Film Festival 2019 21.02-10.03.2019 今年除了放映15部從未在港上映的歐洲佳作，更加入兩部經典電影回顧，免費放映《竊聽者》、《天使愛美麗》，亦有慶祝國際婦女節的免費放映《#女敗女戰》和映後女權論壇，嘉賓包括《#女敗女戰》攝影師 Anne Misselwitz 。所有歐洲電影節放映前，會加映充滿童趣的「Filmit 2018」小學組得獎短片《EU Through the Hong Kong Looking Glass》。 To celebrate their 10th Anniversary, they are screening 15 films which have never been screened before in Hong Kong, a special free film to celebrate the International Women's Day and two free retrospective screenings of classic European films. A very short film, made by young Hong Kong students from Buddhist Chung Wah Kornhill Primary School, will be shown at the beginning of each screening.

This exhibition at Tai Kwun is part of the larger Contagious Cities project, an international collaborative project that aims to support locally grounded conversations around the global challenges of epidemic preparedness, presented by the Wellcome Trust. In Hong Kong, the city-wide project invites six local arts, culture and heritage partners to tell illuminating stories of the city's history of epidemics—from the plague in the nineteenth century to the more recent SARS outbreak in 2003—and its impact on the society.

The old Police Married Quarters (PMQ) has been transformed into a new creative hub in Hong Kong. Staged in PMQ and multiple locations and organized by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, Draw HK is a community art project that promotes drawing as an essential life skill and proves that everyone has the innate ability to wield a pencil creatively!
