ASBURY WOODS WINTER 2018 NEWSLETTER

Welcome!

Happy New Year and welcome to the Winter 2018 edition of the Asbury Woods newsletter. We hope you had a relaxing holiday season with family and friends, while staying focused on the Lord. In this issue, we provide a summary of recent events and give you a look into future events at Asbury Woods. As always, thank you for your support and see you soon!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CAMP AND RETREAT PRICING Important update regarding prices of camps and retreats: The full cost of attending retreats will be $25.00. For families that this cost will place a financial hardship on, the payment can be as little as $10.00. Please keep in mind that payment should never hinder a camper’s ability to attend events. Scholarships are available for all district youth events held at Asbury Woods. Sliding cost scale information for summer camp programs will be announced as those dates get closer.

MIDDLE / HIGH SCHOOL CAMP UPDATE For the past few years, Middle School and High School camps have run simultaneously. Asbury Woods is experiencing a growth in attendance that now makes it possible to separate these two camps. Beginning with the 2018 summer camp season, campers completing 6th-8th grade will attend Middle School Camp (July 8th - 13th) and campers completing 9th-12th grade will attend High School Camp (July 15th - 20th).

FALL RETREAT WRAP UP

TESTED - HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT It is obvious that God works in mighty ways at Asbury Woods. This held especially true throughout the weekend of Fall Retreat this past October. With the "Tested" theme, high school campers were given physical, mental, and spiritual challenges that encouraged a bold growth in their faith. In just a couple of days, many campers received a wake up call to jump back on track with God, and to use life's tests as stepping stones rather than obstacles. While the competition between the teams continued to heat up, campers were able to open up about life experiences with each other, and worked on creating a strong testimony. Testimony workshops were utilized to provide the students with important tools to strengthen the clarity and impact of their personal testimonies. After taking a look at their own lives, and breaking down the trials that they had faced, the students had to think about how God prevailed in those situations, and what all they were actually able to overcome with His aid. Building on this even further, once the kids developed their testimonies, they were encouraged to stand up in front of each other and share it. It is possible that we will be the only Bible that someone would ever read, so communicating how God has changed your life with others is a crucial component of evangelism. We are so thankful for all of the students who were willing to come and spend the weekend with us at our home away from home. The memories that we all share wouldn't be as complete without each and every one of you. We are humbled by the desire in each of these students to grow closer to God, and are grateful for the opportunity to help them do so. We play crazy games, embarrass ourselves, laugh at each other, and punish the losers...but most importantly we praise our awesome God. Our camp family is so special, and would love to see it continue to grow and flourish. Please make that step of faith and come join the fun. If you are unable to attend, we simply ask for prayer for this ministry. God is using our hands in feet in an amazing way, and your support is greatly appreciated. Megan and Mandie Ronk James 1:2-3
