ASD CAMPUS

The American School of Dubai is located in the modern, global business and cultural hub of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE is a federation of seven emirates in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula. Founded in 1966, ASD recently celebrated its 50th anniversary of educating students in the UAE. ASD learning takes place at the one-million foot, wireless digital campus located in a residential area of Dubai. Facilities include two libraries, STEAM design studio, a 630-seat performing arts theatre, black box theatre, field house, indoor and outdoor running tracks, climbing wall, dance studio, video broadcasting studio, regulation playing fields, fitness center, two swimming pools and six tennis courts.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

A college preparatory American curriculum leading to Advanced Placement courses is supplemented by a broad range of electives. Extensive elective offerings are available in the Creative Arts, Physical Education and Technology. World languages include French, Spanish and Arabic. In 2016, ASD launched INSPIRE, a week-long program designed to provide students with unique learning opportunities to explore their passions in more than twenty countries around the world.

GPA Scale and AP Weighting Changes Beginning with the class of 2017, a UAE Government mandated GPA scale has been put in place. Under the new scale, the highest possible GPA is now 4.0 with an additional weighting of 0.25 for AP Courses. Historically, the highest possible non-weighted GPA was 4.33 and an additional weighting of 1.0 for AP Courses.

AP CAPSTONE™

In 2014, ASD began participation in the two year AP Capstone™ diploma program, providing students with the opportunity to engage in rigorous scholarship practice of the core academic skills, including inquiry, research, collaboration and writing. Students who are selected to the program demonstrate academic curiosity, responsibility and excellence. ASD’s first AP Capstone™ student cohort graduated in 2016. In 2017, 24 students were granted an AP Capstone ™ Diploma.
