CARNIVAL 2016 PARENT TEACHER STUDENT ASSOCIATION
brought to you by PTSA
Superintendent’s Message “For a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people’s love and concern for one another.” Millard Fuller (Founder – Habitat for Humanity)
Dear ASD Community Members, On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire faculty and staff of ASD, it’s a pleasure to welcome you to the upcoming 2016 PTSA Carnival. To be a member of the ASD community is to enjoy being a part of what I’ve come to know, appreciate and value, as a unique and special international community. We’ll gather on March 11th to enjoy an evening of fun, good food and wonderful fellowship with one another. An evening like the one to be experienced at Carnival would not be possible without an amazing group of caring and dedicated volunteers. ASD continues to be so very fortunate to have a phenomenal group of parents, teachers and students who comprise the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). The planning for the 2016 Carnival began almost a year ago and in a few days, all of that planning and hard work comes together to create an event that we know will be enjoyable for you and your entire family. As you participate in the 2016 Carnival, I encourage you to take a few moments to pause and reflect upon what it means to be a member of the ASD learning community. Few schools in the world have the sense of community you will experience at the 2016 Carnival. I encourage you to savor what it means for us to connect and create a learning community that first serves our students and in turn, each of us. Thank you for engaging in this event as an important member of our school community. PTSA will dedicate the funds raised from the 2016 Carnival to further extend, enrich and enhance the quality of learning experiences for our students throughout the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. Sincerely,
Brent Mutsch Superintendent
PARENT TEACHER STUDENT ASSOCIATION
PTSA President’s Message Dear ASD Family and Friends, Welcome to Carnival 2016! The PTSA is thrilled you are here and we sincerely hope you have an awesome time at Carnival. Our LEGO theme has been wonderfully fun to plan. A special thank you to Shirin Sabri, our delightful Carnival Chair, who has assembled a dream team that has carefully crafted our best Carnival yet. The annual Carnival serves as PTSA’s largest fundraiser and is an opportunity to give back to our school. Funds raised will go directly back into programs and events that enrich, extend, and enhance the lives of our students, parents, and staff. The highlight of Carnival is that it brings together our community for an evening of fun and friendship. Programs and events that are made possible by your contribution include the PTSA Grant Program, where we have awarded close to 500,000 AED in grant monies to date since its launch five years ago. The vibrant Parent Speaker Series is a direct result of your donations and we look forward to continuing to serve our members with meaningful and relevant guest speakers. Our community events such as Halloween Trick or Treat, Santa’s Workshop and Booster Bazaar, and Staff Appreciation are well attended and meet the core of our mission, which is community building. Carnival would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteer hours that are generously given by our students, parents, and staff. This night is a culmination of all their hard work. Please take a moment to thank a volunteer. Thank you for attending Carnival 2016 and making a difference in ASD. Sincerely,
Stephanie Buck PTSA President

Carnival Chair’s Message
Dear Builders, Welcome to Carnival 2016! Carnival is a true festival! it is a celebration of our ASD students, teachers, and families, and most of all, it demonstrates the pride that we take in being part of such a fabulous community. This year, our students voted for a LEGO theme, and the PTSA Carnival Committee made sure to bring on an exciting experience, with inflatable rides for all age groups; an outdoor lounge exclusively for high-school students; Taekwondo board-breaking; games, booths, and performances; new food vendors in addition to old favorites; and lots of prizes to win! Carnival is a community project. It took an amazing team of parent volunteers to coordinate this event. I am so thankful for their relentless efforts and hard work over the course of five months. And of course, Carnival wouldn’t be a success without the support and active participation of our students, faculty, staff, and Elementary School class project coordinators — not to mention the numerous volunteers who donate their time on the night of the event. It really takes teamwork on a grand scale to make this evening a magical one. Carnival is a great model of collaboration and teamwork. Most of all, Carnival embodies the spirit of giving. A big thank-you to our Falcon Families, sponsors, and in-kind donors for their generosity and support of the PTSA mission to build community and ASD’s goal to enrich student learning. It has been a great joy for the Carnival team and myself to bring Carnival 2016 to light. We hope that you have a LEGO-licious evening! Shirin Sabri
PTSA Carnival Chair
Brick by brick, we build a community that brims with compassion, excellence, integrity, respect and responsibility.
acknowledgements The PTSA Carnival would not be possible without the involvement of our entire ASD community! The continued support and contributions of our sponsors are sincerely appreciated. These donations enable PTSA to fund programs and activities that build community and directly impact student learning. We are also deeply grateful to our Falcon Families for their kind donations, and for the generous gifts from numerous local businesses and organizations which have made for a fantastic Carnival raffle! PTSA is fortunate to have the unwavering support of our ASD faculty and staff, who helped make Carnival 2016 a reality: all the teachers, everyone in Campus Recreation, Office of Advancement, Facilities & Operations, IT, the Business Office, the Health Office and the ES Copy Room. As always, the support and leadership of Dr. Mutsch, Mr. Advento, Dr. Lalonde, and Dr. Leever have been invaluable. PTSA celebrates our students, because it is their involvement that brings Carnival to life! From student organizations and stage performers to class project creators to the Thespian Officers serving as Masters of Ceremonies and DJs, we appreciate your passion and participation! Thanks also to CAST for managing the stage. Finally, we applaud the parent volunteers who are the backbone of the PTSA — from the fabulous members of the planning committee for their enthusiasm, energy and dedication, to everyone who gave their time to assist with class projects, ticket sales, setup and cleanup, and so much more! Thank you all for being part of Carnival 2016!
