Laser following Cataract Surgery
An advanced laser treatment for glaucoma known as Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is now available for the first time in Shropshire. Patients who need better control of glaucoma, either because their eye drops are not working or because they cause side-effects can now have Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) at Nuffield Hospital Shrewsbury Hopsital. SLT reduces the eye pressure helping to prevent loss of vision and blindness from glaucoma.
Capsule opacity is a common problem following cataract surgery affecting as many as one in five patients in the first few years following cataract surgery, causing the vision to become blurred again. YAG laser capsulotomy instantly restores vision to its former level and is now available at the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital, where it can be carried out quickly and painlessly by your consultant Ophthalmologist.
Mr Ewan Craig Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon said “this is an exciting step forward in the management of Shropshire patients with glaucoma, we now have a safer option for those patients who might otherwise need surgery and a more comfortable option for those patients who struggle with eye drops for glaucoma”.
