STUART BONSER
CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for today’s game against Bilston and may I extend a warm welcome to all the players and officials from Bilston who visit us for the first time. Before today’s game we will be observing a minutes applause for the legendary Charlie Tissington Snr who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. As you will see from the articles in the programme, Charlie Snr (father of Charlie Jnr) was instrumental in the foundation and progress of Ashby Ivanhoe FC in the days when the teams played at its Hood Park home. For those of you that knew Charlie I am sure you will have your own memories. The Club President, David Morris, will be leading the
level above, but should give the players the confidence to know that the level above is not as challenging as maybe once thought.

ANDY GRAY
FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all. Welcome again to the NFU. Our last two games have been away from home. An excellent 1-7 win at Coventry Copsewood. The level of intensity from all of the players was fantastic and we put in an excellent display all round. Our pressing was as good as I’ve seen since being at the club and we simply beat our opponents into submission. The opposite was the case on Tuesday in our visit to OJM Black Country. As we expect from teams from that area they completely harassed us from the first whistle. The officials were unfortunately very lenient and a lot of bad tackles went unpunished. This enabled our opponents to get away with a lot but in the end the game was lost against a team who worked harder than us. That isn't acceptable and changes have been made to today's team.
We are conceeding far too many goals and that needs to stop. Our strikers are the two top scorers in the league so the rest of us need to do our jobs and I’m sure we'll improve our results moving forward. Enjoy the game and thanks for your continued support. Regards, Andy Gray

BILSTON TOWN The club was founded in 1894 as a merger of Bilston Rovers and Bilston Wanderers, and was initially known as Bilston United. In the same year they joined the Walsall & District Junior League.[1] After finishing fourth in their first season, they won the league in 1895–96.[1] The league was renamed the Walsall & District League in 1897 and the club were runners-up in 1898– 99.[1] They won the league again in 1900–01 and retained the title the following season, before finishing as runners-up in 1902–03.[1] After finishing third in 1906–07,[1] the club moved up to the Birmingham Combination, where they finished as runners-up in their first season.[2] Bilston remained in the Combination until the end of the 1920–21 season,[3] when they joined the Birmingham & District League.[4] They were runners-up to Shrewsbury Town in 1922–23 and spent the rest of the 1920s in mid-table before finishing second-frombottom in 1929–30.[4] They left the league at the end of the 1931–32 season,[5] dropping into the Walsall & District League and changing their name to Bilston Borough.[6] Their first season back in the Walsall & District League saw Bilston win the league title, a feat they repeated in 1935–36, before finishing the 1937–38 season as runners-up. [6] After disbanding in 1939 due to World War II, the club was reformed in 1946 under the name Bilston. Rejoining the renamed Walsall Senior, they were champions in 1947–48,[7] after which they rejoined the Birmingham Combination in 1948, finishing second-from-bottom of the league in 1950– 51.[3] They were runners-up in 1953–54,
the last season before the league merged into the Birmingham & District League, with Bilston placed in the Northern Division.[5] An eighth-place finish in 1954–55 saw the club placed in Division One the following season.[5] However, after finishing in the bottom four, they were relegated to Division Two.[5] The Division Two title was won at the first attempt, securing Bilston an immediate promotion back to Division One.[5] The league was reduced to a single division in 1960 and the club were champions in 1960– 61.[5] In 1962 the league was renamed the West Midlands (Regional) League, and when it gained a second division in 1965, Bilston were placed in the Premier Division.[8] In 1968–69 the club reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time, losing 3–1 at home to Halifax Town.[8] After finishing as Premier Division runners-up in 1970–71, the 1972–73 season saw Bilston reach the second round of the FA Cup, as well as winning the Premier Division title and the Premier Division Cup;[7] in the FA Cup they defeated Barnstaple Town 2–0 in the first round, before losing 1–0 at home to Barnet in a second round replay.[9] Bilston were Premier Division runners-up the following season and again in 1975–76. [8] Despite finishing bottom of the division in 1979–80 they avoided relegation to Division One. The club was renamed Bilston Town in 1983.[9] They were Premier Division runners-up in 1984–85, earning promotion to the Midland Division of the Southern League. The division was renamed the Western Division in 1999, with the club

missing out on promotion to the Premier Division by two points in 2000–01. They finished seventeenth the following season, after which the club resigned from the league, dropping into Division One North of the West Midlands Regional League.[9] The 2002–03 season saw Bilston finish as runners-up in Division One North, after which they were switched to Division One South for the 2003–04 season, and then to Division One in 2004–05 amid league reorganisation. Despite finishing seventh in 2006–07 the club resigned from the league, but after reforming as Bilston Town (2007) they were readmitted to the league and placed in Division Two. The club were Division Two runners up in 2007–08 and promoted to Division One. After finishing as Division One runners-up in 2012–13, earning promotion to the Premier Division. In Memory Of
CHARLIE TISSINGTON SNR Another sad announcement I’m afraid, it’s with a heavy heart that the passing of one of The Founding Fathers of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club, Charlie Tissington Snr. Charlie was involved from the club from its early days and it’s fair to say that without his vision, drive and boundless enthusiasm, hundreds of footballers would not have been able to enjoy the benefits, laughs and friendships that local football brings. Charlie was a delightful man, his East End wit and charm was always evident in any conversations you had with him and his passion for sport was immense. He was a permanent fixture at Hood Park for decades whether on “vole patrol” , putting up the goalposts whatever the weather, or later pushing out the legendary tea trolley with his old mates Ray Sherwin and Ivan Hall, he would always see the positives in the games and if we lost it was off to The Lamb for a drink and a laugh and look forward to the next game. Running a local football club is notoriously precarious financially but Charlie had the foresight to keep the club going with innovative fund raising such as the weekly Tote draw, War Memorial meat bingo, blackout cards and later
the clubs first shirt sponsorships with Rawden Foundry and R N Shields , you could never say no to Charlie. There was one occasion at a last game title decider vs Ingles when Hood Park was packed and we sold 500 raffle tickets but Charlie was furious that we’d only covered 2 sides of the pitch ! A really great guy and one who will be never forgotten, everyone at Ashby Ivanhoe sends their love and support to Charlie & Viv and the wider Tissington family at this most difficult time. R.I.P. Charlie Snr and keep the bubbles blowing Sir !

ASHBY IVANHOE
CLUB HISTORY
A
shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have
also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League.
