A reviving economy and a trend among buyers towards debt-free communities have led to a great start at this gated residential community on the south face of Cedar Cliff Mountain. In the last 12 months, 15 lots have been placed under contract and 11 homes are under construction or in the review process to start construction. Recent home site sales range from $71,500 to $350,000. “We’re seeing the higher end of the market come back again,” said Mike Romero, Southcliff’s onsite sales representative for Beverly-Hanks & Associates’ Community Marketing Group, the exclusive sales and marketing partner for the community. “People are saying to themselves that prices are not going to get better than this and that this is a great time to buy. They’ve fallen in love with Southcliff.” Location is Everything At Southcliff, there is no need to choose between a private, mountain retreat nestled in nature and enjoying a fun, social life in downtown Asheville. The Alexandra Cottage Model Home One of Southcliff’s featured builders, Living Stone Construction, winner of the Viewers’ Choice award during last year’s Asheville Parade of Homes, has completed one model home and will finish up another in January to give buyers an idea of what Southcliff’s newest collection of plans will offer. Living Stone will maintain a design center in each to help homeowners select from a wide array of surfaces, finishes, trims, colors and fabrics. With Living Stone’s help, they can even customize the floor plans. “This is the time for the fun stuff,” said Mike Romero, Southcliff’s onsite sales representative for Beverly-Hanks & Associates’ Community Marketing Group. “This is where they get to pick the hardwood floors, the faucets in the master bath, that sort of thing. We want to make it as easy as possible.” The model home on display during this year’s Parade of Homes is The Alexandra Cottage located in East Owl Creek, a neighborhood of family homes just a short drive from Southcliff’s Treehouse Village and Family Park. The 2,159-squarefoot, 3-bedroom cottage has 1,800

square feet of living space on the main floor and, upstairs, another 359 square feet of bonus room (and bath) that could be an office, a children’s play area or an exercise studio. Beneath is a large unfinished basement that could be used for just about anything. The fully furnished model provides homeowners with plenty of ideas for individualizing the house for their own family’s use. “The Alexandra Cottage is an exceptional home, designed in an architectural style authentic to this mountain region,” said Sean Sullivan, President of Living Stone Construction. “In addition, we are proud of the fact that the Alexandra is a showcase of environmentallyconscious building. For example, the home is in a natural setting on a wooded site, yet it was built with minimal impact to the neighboring trees. We also utilized low-impact development techniques to create a unique drainage system that captures run-off water from impervious surfaces, such as the roof area and the driveway. This drainage system prevents storm water from building up and then flooding homes located downstream.”

The Rockcliff Model Home Two hundred feet higher than The Alexandra Cottage on Cedar Cliff Mountain, at an elevation of 2,700 feet, is The Rockcliff, a 2,840-square-foot model home with a master suite and office on the main floor and two bedrooms on the upper floor. With its towering, vaulted ceilings, its wall of windows and a porch that frames the view beautifully, this house in the elegant Elkmont enclave has a huge natural stone chimney with fireplaces on both levels and room for an elevator. Behind the large lot, as is true for all the lots in Elkmont, are acres of forest full of flowering rhododendron, giving the home a feeling of seclusion and privacy.

There’s no bank involved with this property, so we truly are a debt-free community.” And because it is, it can afford to offer prospective residents an unprecedented look at what Southcliff’s featured builders can do by funding the construction of Southcliff’s newest model homes, The Alexandra Cottage and The Rockcliff.

“The Rockcliff is built on a spectacular site covered with natural rock,” said Sean Sullivan, President of Living Stone Construction and one of Southcliff’s featured builders. “In harmony with its surroundings, the home utilizes natural rock on the interior and exterior, even incorporating it in the landscaping. There was very minimal impact to the site during development. The deck and porch are carefully positioned to garner the best possible panoramic views. Our designer is partial to The Rockcliff, stating that it is his favorite of all the home designs he has ever created!”

Amenities for All Our Residents With low-maintenance exterior finishes such as HardiePlank siding, both houses are Energy Star version 3-certified (the highest level of certification available). And with universally-designed main-level living that includes wide doorways, curbless showers and barrierfree transit from garage to living quarters, they are built with permanence in mind. Residents and guests of all homes at Southcliff will enjoy the 175 acres of protected woodlands.
