Farmers fear early drought BY MYLES HUME
MYLES.H@THEGUARDIAN.CO.NZ
Some Mid Canterbury farmers could be facing a nightmare season as they deal with a twomonth wait before damaged irrigators are repaired from recent
wind storms. Local industry experts fear it could reach a crisis level similar to that of the North Island drought earlier this year, as the dry weather begins to decimate crops and force dairy farmers to delve into sup-
plementary feed. Irrigation NZ last week expected up to 90 per cent of the 800 Canterbury irrigation systems damaged in the September and October storms to be in serviceable shape by Christmas.

precedented number of repairs while continuing with regular business.
