Mid Canterbury arable farmers unsure about how to calculate their greenhouse gas emissions “number” are urged to at tend a workshop being held by the Foun dation for Arable Research.
All farmers are expected to know their GHG emissions number by the end of this year, with more than 60 per cent of arable farmers in FAR’s 2021 survey yet to do so. Farmers must have a written plan on how to mitigate their GHG emissions by Janu aryNumbers2025. will be generated using E-Check, a simple and straightforward online calculator, purpose-built by FAR re searcher, Dirk Wallace, for arable farmers. The train is well and truly mov ing, and Mid Canterbury are now under threat of missing it com pletely.Two weeks into this year’s Heartland Rugby Championship and the pressure is firmly on the Hammers after they fell to their second successive defeat on Sat urday, at the hands of a passion ate Ngati Porou East Coast at the Ashburton Showgrounds, 34-36.
East Coast stuck to their guns, took their opportunities and highlighted some serious issues in the Mid Canterbury defensive line to score twice again before the halftime break, using their big forwards to launch upstoppable drives from close range, and took a 31-17 lead into the sheds with the home crowd stunned.

With the match on the line, he stepped up to the mark but pushed it wide again and East Coast celebrated under the posts. To point the finger at McCloy would be tough.
He brushed off a defender and sprinted away to score, and when McCloy landed the conversion from out wide, Mid Canterbury were back in the match at 31-36. Down by five, Mid Canterbury went on full attack looking for an other try inside the final 20 min utes.
Perhaps the decision to turn down kickable points throughout the final 20 minutes, from easier positions than the final two, will haunt the side this week.
