New tools greatly improve irrigation management Johnny Fraser, of Otane, has mixed crops under the centre pivot with different water requirements. Fraser estimates Precision VRI has resulted in one-third less water usage. “It’s basically saving me 30 percent on costs since I don’t have to pump as much water.” Lindsay, an international irrigation leader, announces three exciting new products to be showcased on the Precision Irrigation (Lindsay International) site at the NZ National Agricultural Feildays, Mystery Creek, June 15th-18th, 2011. The new irrigation advancements include centre-pivot control via mobile phone, web-based control and low cost small paddock irrigation. FieldNET Mobile—pivot control for smartphones.

FieldNET Mobile allows growers to fully control and monitor their irrigation pivots anywhere through the convenience of smartphones (compatible with iPhone®, BlackBerry® and Android technology). With the addition of FieldNET Mobile, growers can view the current status of all their pivots, receive system alerts, arrange pivots by predefined groups, view water usage reports and receive a history of pivot runtimes. FieldNET Mobile is available as an upgrade in all areas serviced by FieldNET.

Precision Vri – Full Variable rate irrigation For unlimited Flexibility Zimmatic® by Lindsay Precision VRI technology allows you to apply the right amount of water to your paddock, maximising yields and profitability. Each sprinkler is programmed to turn on/off or pulse at a customised rate, depending on crop, terrain or obstacle.

FieldNET PRO with GPS Position – a Webbased irrigation controller designed for existing pivots with mechanical panels. FieldNET PRO combines GPS positioning and wireless communication to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of existing center pivots. Growers who install FieldNET PRO gain remote monitoring control, even on mechanical panels. “By retrofitting an existing pivot with FieldNET PRO, a grower will be able to manage it using the FieldNET Wireless Irrigation Network,” says Richard Hall, Lindsay Australasia. “The controller is easy to install, and the added convenience and efficiency can result in significant savings on water, labour and energy.” Additional product features include water rate adjustments, end-gun control and shutdown alerts, as well as smartphone access with FieldNET Mobile. FieldNET PRO is compatible with most brands of panels. Zimmatic by Lindsay Small-Field Pivot—designed to irrigate smaller fields up to 24 hectares. With a crop clearance of 3.2 meters, the Zimmatic Small-Field Pivot features a smaller diameter pipeline of 11.4 centimeters, 11-gauge pipe and tower joints, and 12.7-centimeter pivot point.

“The smaller pipeline diameter and lighter components make this a compact, high-strength irrigation system,” says Richard Hall, Lindsay Australasia. “At a lower cost per hectare, the Zimmatic Small-Field Pivot is designed by Lindsay engineers to help growers maximise coverage while minimising cost.” Alongside these new products will be a feature Precision VRI demonstration running. Farmers can use Precision VRI technology to define custom irrigation zones with easy-to-use farm mapping software. Individual sprinkler heads on the irrigation system can then be programmed to turn on or off or pulse at a customised rate depending on crop, terrain or obstacles in the paddock. Precision VRI is designed to save water and energy by allowing growers to apply the right amount of water based on the unique characteristics of their paddocks. For more information about the any of the products mentioned or other Lindsay irrigation solutions available contact your local Zimmatic dealer or visit the Precision Irrigation (Lindsay International) site at the NZ National Feildays, Mystery Creek , June 15th18th, 2011, site D55.
