2017 ST. BALDRICK’S FOUNDATION The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a 501(c)3 volunteer organization that raises money for childhood cancer research through the annual head-shaving event. This year a team made up of 5 Kahuna-ites grew out their hair and beards for 6+ months in an effort to raise money and awareness for this notable cause. Kahuna hosted various sub-events throughout the 2017 St. Baldrick’s campaign to support our shavees and the overall cause. The campaign concluded on March 11th with the notorious head shaving of all local participants who took part in this notable cause. Check out some of our internal fundraising shenanigans....

ST. BALDRICK’S - PENNY WARS

For three months each ‘shavee’ had a jar in our lobby to collect loose change in support of their overall fundraising goals. Because everything is a competition, pennies counted for positive points and anything green or silver counted as negative points toward their overall jar total. Bribery became a normal occurrence in the office, as shavees brought in donuts and candy and the partners even chipped in an extra 2,500 pennies to up the antics. The penny wars winner with the most positive points at the end of the campaign was rewarded with powerful 5 decision making authority at the annual Kahuna Golf Tournament.

ST. BALDRICK’S - THROW A PIE AT A PARTNER Yes, you read that right, Kahuna-ites had the opportunity to throw as many $1 whipped cream pies (with a few cherries mixed in) as they wanted at the Kahuna Partners. All pie throwing proceeds went towards Team Kahuna’s overall St. Baldrick’s fundraising effort. It seems the opportunity to ‘pie’ The Big Kahuna and Partners was one no one could pass up! This event brought in over $1,000 to go towards childhood cancer research!

ST. BALDRICK’S - THE MAIN HEADSHAVING EVENT The shaving event was the culmination of our fundraising shenanigans and was graciously hosted by The Exchange Tavern and North Metro Fire Department in Westminster. This year there were a total 55 shavees at this location. The day was filled with joyful stories of survival and the heartwrenching reminder of why the St. Baldrick’s Foundation exists. Irish festivities and philanthropy filled the air while we auctioned off Gary’s 40 year old mustache and watched the other 54 participants get a much needed haircut. The overall donations collected at The Tavern location totaled over $29,450.00 with approximately $12,000 coming from Kahuna Kares and our Team Kahuna Shavee efforts!

ST. BALDRICK’S - GRAND TOTALS The winner of our Penny Wars was Electrical Engineer and shavee Mike Langfield, with $222.95 going towards his St. Baldrick’s campaign. Thanks to his brother’s penny collection, he was the only shavee to end up with positive points! The winner of the overall St. Baldrick’s fundraising campaign was none other than The Big Kahuna himself, Kahuna President, Gary Davis. Gary raised over $3,200.00! The Kahuna Kares and shavee grand total raised for The St. Baldrick’s Foundation was $11,920.00! 8
