UNITED KINGDOM CHAPTER 208
ASIS NEWSLETTER OF THE YEAR – WINNER 2015, 2013, 2012, 2008 & 2003 – HONOURABLE MENTION 2011, 2006.
2016 off to a flying start! It’s been a hectic yet tremendously successful few months for ASIS UK. We had a record breaking attendance at the March Seminar at PwC and I was enormously happy, proud (and relieved) to see so many of you there for my first seminar. The seminar was good, most informative and well worth attending but I think we can do better and we intend to do so, improving every time. The facilities and support from the staff at PwC were exceptionally good and I really must thank and commend our generous host, Richard Stanley, for facilitating such a great event. We have held regional meetings in Edinburgh, Belfast and Durham – again all very well attended and a great demonstration of our national reach. Our regional leads really are very hard working and offer a great deal of commitment and expertise to these events. The feedback about the regional events from delegates has been tremendous and full credit is given to our regional squad of event organisers and sponsors. Edinburgh – Harry Watters Belfast - Steve Brown CPP and Michael Pepper CPP PSP Durham - Andy Davis CPP CSyP and Peter Houlis I would very much like to see more regional events this year to build on our success and encourage you all to think about where you would like to see an event taking place and what you would like to hear about; volunteers are of course very welcome as well. To find out more, please contact Vice Chairman Mike Hurst or

Mike Hurst Mike@hja.co.uk Andy Davis andy.davis@tridentmanor.com In March ASIS UK had a stand at the Total Security Summit in Stansted which saw our Vice Chairs and myself reaching out to potential and existing members who attended. I was there as a delegate but took the opportunity to observe how well we do at these events and I have to say, we’re in pretty good shape (as an organisation, not as an embodiment of fitness . . .). 23rd of March was the first AXIS / ASIS CPE day of 2016 hosted by me in London, so I was able to attend relatively easily and give a first-hand report on the day. I am pleased to report that it was well worth it, we had 16 delegates attending, all of whom received 5 valuable CPE points but were also recipients of some new and enlightening information which was very helpfully delivered in a language even I can understand. The Axis guys who delivered the training made a rather dry and challenging suite of subjects interesting and thought provoking, I really cannot recommend these FREE TO ATTEND courses highly enough and am looking forward to the next one. Next up was the ASIS European Conference and Exhibition which took place at the Islington Business Centre in London through 6-8 April. Before the event itself, I saw firsthand just how much planning goes into making these events so successful. Behind the scenes ASIS UK board and members’ commitment was intense, rightly so as the event was London based.
David Clark CPP PCI PSP – ASIS UK Chapter Chairman The conference started before the 6th April with the ASIS Chairman’s welcome drinks in London on the evening of the 5th. It was a packed week of hosting and performing during the day, performing again in the evening, albeit with liquid refreshment . . . The 6th was a day of talks and tours and I had the pleasure of sharing the stage at the British Museum as a speaker with the Museum’s Head of Security, David Bilson CPP. We were able to deliver a joint presentation about our day job premises which gave a contrast between the very young and the very old (the buildings, not the speakers) . . . as my day job building is less than a year old and David’s museum is 263 years old. David was a great host and the British Museum a fantastic venue which was very well recognised by our overseas membership. The ASIS envoy from Greece was carefully monitored throughout and I am pleased to report that the Elgin marbles are still there . . . That evening (6th - if you’re still with me) was the Welcome Party powered continued over
