EVERY CHURCH HAS ITS DISAGREEMENTS.

BUT WHY DO THEY SO EASILY TURN TOXIC?

Loving disagreement is the problem –Christians have become too relaxed about the way disagreements destroy unity and undermine mission.

Loving disagreement is also the solution –because if Christians can learn to love even their neighbour in Christ with whom they disagree, situations of conflict are transformed.

Reflecting on his experiences first as a BBC religion correspondent and then as an ordained Anglican, Christopher Landau offers practical solutions to the facing of inevitable disagreements among Christians, rooted in a dual call to love our neighbour and seek the fruit of the Spirit.

Also included is a five-session small group resource, The Unity Course, that unpacks the New Testament principles, and equips followers of Jesus to disagree in authentically Christian ways.

And lastly, thank you for bearing with us these past few months as we have undergone changes and come under new ownership. Failure: What Jesus Said About Sin, Mistakes and Messing Stuff Up

Emma

In 2019, Emma Ineson wrote about ambition and what it means for Christians to be successful. And then there was a global pandemic . . . Suddenly failure began to feel very much more familiar than success. But what is failure? What did Jesus think of it? What did he say about sin, mistakes and generally mucking things up? At the start of this wonderfully humorous and encouraging book - which will end at the cross - it's suggested that our tendency to lump all kinds of failure together could be a bit unhelpful. As the book draws to an end, we are reminded of our calling to live life to the full, to take risks despite our fears. We are bound sometimes to fail! Yet gazing at Jesus we may discern in the heartache, vulnerability and humility of failure, the glory of the cross.

Timothy Keller: His Spiritual and Intellectual Formation Collin Hansen

Millions have read Keller, but never before has anyone talked to his family and closest friends about what makes him tick. This authorised biography captures the people who made the man. Collin Hansen takes readers behind the scenes to meet the people and understand the events that formed Keller's spiritual life and ministry priorities. With unfettered access to Keller's personal notes and sermons - as well as exclusive interviews with family members and longtime friends - Collin Hansen gives you unprecedented understanding of one of the 21st century's most influential church leaders. The story of Timothy Keller is the story of his spiritual and intellectual influences, from the woman who taught him how to read the Bible to the professor who taught him to preach Jesus from every text to the philosopher who taught him to see beneath society's surface. Hansen introduces readers to Keller's early years: the home where he learned to tell stories from the trees, the church where he learned to care for souls and the city that lifted him to the international fame he never wanted. This is the story of the people, books, lectures and ultimately the God who formed and shaped the life of Timothy Keller.

Books by Timothy Keller:

Forgive: Why Should I and How Can I?

PRE-ORDER: Publishes 16th February

Renowned pastor and author Timothy Keller grapples with this thorny question: why we should forgive those who hurt us. It is the heart of the gospel, but it’s not solely important on a religious level; the matter of forgiveness has a huge impact on social and cultural levels, in terms of how we deal with the people, and problems, in our lives. What is it like to carry around resentment and judgement, and what does it cost us to do so – as against the very real personal cost of extending forgiveness to others?

Godforsaken: The Cross - the Greatest Hope of All

Stephen

In the Gospel of Mark's account of the Passion narrative, Jesus calls out from the cross 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?' which is the Aramaic for 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' - the first line of Psalm 22. It's an anguished expression - traditionally ascribed to King David - of defeat, failure, abandonment and despair. This series of reflections, written for Lent and Holy Week 2023 by the Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell, ponders the significance of these words. What does it mean for Jesus to have quoted them, at the very end of his life? What do those words mean for us? This is a beautiful and compelling exploration of the dark, suffering side of the Passion - and how Jesus' words lead us to the greatest hope of all.

Is Easter Unbelievable?: Four Questions Everyone Should Ask About the Resurrection Story

Rebecca McLaughlin

Did Jesus rise from the dead? This book explores the miracle at the heart of the Christian faith. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is an extraordinary thing to believe. Such a supernatural event is the stuff of make-believe, many think. Yet millions of Christians around the world believe that Jesus' resurrection was a real, historical event. Indeed, 'if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith' and Christians are 'of all people most to be pitied.' (1 Corinthians 15) In this concise book, respected apologist Rebecca McLaughlin outlines the evidence that Jesus really did rise from the dead and why it's the best news ever.

Living His Story: Revealing the Extraordinary Love of God in Ordinary Ways

Hannah Steele

How can we convey the love of God to our neighbours in a post-Christian world that has largely forgotten the gospel of Jesus Christ? In Living His Story, Hannah Steele uncovers liberating and practical ways of sharing the gospel story afresh. With warmth and encouragement, she shows us how we can live Jesus' story in our own lives simply by being the people God made us and allowing people to be drawn to him through our natural gifts. Living His Story is a Lent devotional that will change the way you think about evangelism, show how ideally suited it is for the world we live in and fill you with confidence in sharing God's love with the people around you. Set out in six sessions to take you through Lent, each chapter can be used as a single study for individuals or small groups to prepare for Easter. Pastor Tyler Staton draws on ancient and modern insights to introduce us to Jesus' disciple Thomas: history's most notorious sceptic. Like Thomas, we are caught between two unsatisfying stories: we want to believe in God but can't reconcile his presence with our circumstances and internal struggles. But what if there's a God who can heal your resentments, fears and loneliness in such a profound way that you feel whole? From a place of spiritual companionship and deep authenticity, Tyler shows us that it is not an empty tomb that will change our lives, but the presence of the living God.

Approaching the Almighty: 100 Prayers of A. W. Tozer

Phil Shappard

Is there a holier moment than when a preacher steps into the pulpit and opens the Scriptures before the people of the Lord? A. W. Tozer certainly understood the gravity and sanctity of that moment. His pulpit prayers reflect the holy awe that he experienced as he stood before God and the gathered congregation. Although Tozer fans are familiar with his writings and sermons, now for the first time, Approaching the Almighty collects the prayers that Tozer offered as he stepped into the pulpit to preach. Phil Shappard, a Moody Radio manager whose job was to remaster the audiotapes of Tozer's sermons, has collected and transcribed almost two hundred prayers that reveal the great preacher's intimate walk with God. Let Tozer's pulpit prayers guide your own heart in its steadfast pursuit of God.

We have many reasons to be excited about prayer, as Guy Richard shows us. It is the relationship glue that bonds our hearts more and more to the Lord. God commands us to pray, and he graciously answers our prayers. As we pour out our hearts to him, we and the world around us will be changed. Informative, encouraging and practical, this brief book will serve as a helpful primer for pastors, elders, study groups and Christians who seek encouragement and instruction on prayer and its blessings.

Pray Big: Learn To Pray Like An Apostle

Alistair Begg

Many of us struggle with prayer. And when we do pray, we often don't know what to say. What does God want to hear about? To find the answers we need to discover how to pray as the apostle Paul did. Paul enjoyed prayer and was excited about it. He expected his Father in heaven to hear what he said and to act in other people's lives. He prayed and then was 'watchful in it with thanksgiving', ready to see how God would work. This book focuses on Paul's prayer for his friends in the church in Ephesus. The truths that underpin and shape his prayers for them can motivate us to pray.

How has Zoom affected us during lockdown and how do we now relate to technology as a medium of fellowship? Where is Christ amid our restrictions and our releases?

Grace: Food for the Journey

Elizabeth McQuoid

The word 'grace' can be a bit of a catch-all word in the church for the many unearned gifts and blessings we receive from God each day. However, when we begin to understand that grace is the means by which we start a relationship with the living God and that it can only continue through grace, we recognise that it is a doctrine of central importance to the Christian faith. One that must be relearned and reinforced at every stage of our journey with Christ. This 30day devotional, featuring contributions from trusted teachers like Rico Tice, Vaughn Roberts and Peter Maiden, will explore what grace means and what it does for us. Spending time learning about this wonderful gift will inspire those that read it to experience God's grace in a deeper way, empowering them to show more grace to others.

Two books from Michael Reeves

PRE-ORDER: Publishes 14th February

Evangelical Pharisees: The Gospel as Cure for the Church's Hypocrisy

Scripture warns believers of hypocrisy and its potential to spread quickly in the church. Outwardly appearing as devout religion, this legalism hides destructive pride, idolatry and even apostasy. Unfortunately, pharisaism is still a problem among evangelicals today. How does Jesus instruct the church to recognise and defeat one of its deepest theological issues? In this clear, compelling call to spiritual reformation, Michael Reeves helps believers reject pharisaism and embrace gospel integrity. Studying 3 essentials of Christian doctrine that the Pharisees misunderstood, Reeves shows readers how to embrace a biblical, Trinitarian and creedal understanding of the gospel necessary for true reformation.

Gospel People: A Call for Evangelical Integrity

The term evangelical is often poorly defined and frequently comes with cultural and political baggage. As the label has become more controversial, many Christians have begun to wonder if they should abandon it altogether. Michael Reeves argues from a global, scriptural and historical perspective that, while it’s not necessary to discard the label altogether, Christians must return to the root of the term - the evangel, or 'gospel'in order to understand what it truly means.

Broken by Love: Transforming the Lives of Women on the Streets of Bristol

The inspiring biography of Val Jeal who stepped out in faith and changed the lives of many female sex workers in Bristol. After leading a very conventional life, a middle-aged Val told God she was available to be used by him. Moving to an inner-city church, God opened her eyes and heart to what was happening in Bristol, and so began a remarkable rollercoaster ride of love, compassion, burnout, determination, honesty, victories and defeats. Founding the charity One25, Val worked with the female sex workers of Bristol, offering a listening ear, acceptance, support and a safe place to stay that has changed many lives. Val’s incredible story shows that it is never too late for God to work in your life and will encourage you to have the faith to step out and do what God has called you to do.

Neither students nor a passing doctor nor paramedics were able to revive him. His parents received the news at their home in Toronto and immediately departed for Louisville to be together as a family. While on the plane, Tim, an author and blogger, began to process his loss through writing. The Reluctant Queen and Other Reformation Women

Elaine Snuggs

Lady Jane Grey, Anne Askew, Katherine Parr and Catherine Willoughby were Christian women, each transformed by the teachings of the Reformation. Elaine Snuggs has researched widely and deeply to portray for us four remarkable women living through a fascinating period in history. The women are both well known (Katharine Parr, sixth wife of Henry VIII, and Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Days Queen) and not so well known (martyr Anne Askew and Catherine Willoughby, Duchess of Suffolk). These were not flawless heroines but in their times of trial showed themselves to be brave, intelligent, educated women, of strong character and radiant spirit, living for the Lord who had saved them and whom they had come to know as the only Saviour and Redeemer by grace alone through faith alone.

Hope in the Eleventh Hour: A Mother's Journey Through Grief with Eternal Eyes

Evangelistic Preaching: Proclaiming the Gospel to Non-Christians who are Listening

'Evangelistic preaching is proclaiming the gospel to non-Christians who are listening.' Clear, faithful proclamation of the gospel is needed more than ever, but the pressures of the world are often causing us to stay silent and withdraw. Using stories and examples, Roger Carswell unpacks biblical principles for sharing the good news and applies them to the preparation, praying, and preaching of an evangelist. If you’re a seasoned preacher or just starting out, this book is for you. It will help you think through your message and method and how truth can be clearly communicated in love.

Humility: The Joy of Self-Forgetfulness

Gavin Ortlund

PRE-ORDER: Publishes 24th January

Some think that being humble means hiding your talents and abilities or being weak and inauthentic. But the Bible paints a different picture - defining humility as a self-forgetfulness leading to joy and explaining that it is a life-giving virtue that frees you from the restricting needs of your ego. Gavin Ortlund encourages readers that humility is not just an abstract virtue but a mark of gospel integrity. He examines humility both on a personal level and in the context of the church, giving examples of ways to cultivate it - including meditation on the gospel and practicing intentional gratitude.

It's often different than expected and it can be hard to know where to turn when difficulty and loneliness rise up. God Is Still Good invites women to experience God's comfort and leads moms to put their hope in Christ, despite the unexpected trials of raising children. Katie Faris knows well the challenges of parenting. As a mother of 5, she has experienced the trials of motherhood but also knows the comfort of our Saviour, Jesus. God Alone: His Unique Attributes and How Knowing Them Changes Us

Jonathan Griffiths

Our constant danger is that we have a view of God that is too small. We are living in a mefocused, treat-yourself world - a world that oppressively encourages us to focus on ourselves. But a life turned inward - rather than focused on God - brings peril and confusion. When we fail to know God properly, we become selfish and hopeless. But a renewed understanding of who God is changes that. Pastor Jonathan Griffiths shows us how God Alone can transform us at a root level. With pastoral warmth and heart, Griffiths shows us the character of God in all His beauty and goodness. This book is both a plea for the people of God to know Him intimately and, at the same time, an invitation to those who do not yet know Him.

The Bible devotes more verses to David than anyone else except Jesus. God called David a man after his own heart, yet he made monumental mistakes. So why was this flawed king so esteemed and what can we learn? Touching on universal themes such as being overlooked, family tensions, conflict and temptation, Percey draws out biblical truths that gently challenge us to look at our lives and draw closer to Jesus. David’s life gives hope to all of us who make mistakes and whose hearts are easily moved that we too can learn to be after God’s own heart.

God Is God & You are You: Finding Confidence for Sharing Our Faith

Evangelism is crucial, it is urgent, it is exciting, it is wonderful. There is nothing more thrilling than to see God at work in people’s lives and to see them discover the incredible joy and peace that comes from knowing Jesus. But it is also hard. Often, sharing our faith with other people is the area of our Christian lives where we feel at our most useless. The Bible contains a wealth of theological truth that is a powerhouse of encouragement for evangelism, including the basic truths that God is God and you are you. God is who he has always been: infinite, eternal, unchangeable, all–powerful, at work in his world. You are you; you don’t need to become someone you are not. God has not called a select group of elite Christians to tell the world about Jesus; he has chosen his weak, insecure, ineloquent people. He has chosen you.

Followers of the Way: Ancient Discipleship for Modern Christians

PRE-ORDER: Publishes 13th January

What discipleship means and how we help people to become true disciples is one of the most pressing issues in today's church. In simple terms discipleship is about connecting more deeply with God and connecting God with the whole of life, a life-long process for which we require long-term skills rather than just short-term courses. The Celtic and Desert Christians, drawing on Old and New Testament practices, taught and modelled how to do this through the practice of living by a Way of Life.

The Deeper Life: Go Beyond Knowledge to Experience Spirit-Filled Living

Christians often know the theory of the Spirit-filled life but not the joy-filled experience. Pastor and theologian A. W. Tozer said that Christians often know nothing personally about the inner fire of a Spirit-filled life. This timely voice provides a timeless glimpse into spiritual maturity and growth. The 'deeper life' is deeper only because the average Christian life is tragically and unnecessarily shallow. Tozer examines our lack of personal zeal and its causes. Why do we settle for peace of mind and material prosperity? What can we do with our fears, disappointments and disillusionment? In The Deeper Life, Tozer demonstrates how the ancient heart-thirst felt by all of us can only be quenched by the personal presence of God Himself.

Finding Your Best Identity: A Short Christian Introduction to Identity, Sexuality and Gender

Andrew Bunt

Who are you? And how can you find who you are? Andrew Bunt has wrestled with these questions. At one point in his childhood, he thought he might be a girl in a boy's body. As he grew up and discovered he's same-sex attracted, the world started to tell him that his sexuality is his identity. And for many years, he believed the lie that he was a freak and a weirdo, assuming that's what everyone thought of him. In this short Christian introduction to identity, Andrew explores and examines different ways we can discover who we are. Blending his personal story with careful Bible teaching and genuine cultural awareness, this is a book to get conversations going and help us all understand our best identity.

Charles R. Swindoll

When trials and tribulations rumble in like a fleet of bulldozers to demolish our lives, we can emerge from the rubble with a strong resolve to recover and rebuild. A Praying Church: Becoming a People of Hope in a Discouraging World

While many Christians know how important prayer is, most churches don't have regular prayer meetings. Through personal stories and biblical examples, Paul E. Miller teaches the why, what and how of communal prayer. He explains that when believers come together in prayer, both the individual and the community will spiritually benefit. Readers will learn how praying together can transform their communities into beacons of hope and be given practical strategies - such as finding a prayer partner and prioritising a structured prayer time - to implement these changes in their own church.

Parenting Teens for a Life of Faith: Helping Teens Meet and Know God

Rachel Turner

Parenting teens has its challenges. The once-small children we had are pulling away from us, growing in independence and making decisions with bigger consequences. It can be easy to think we are less influential in their lives, particularly when it comes to faith. But that is not true. Parents remain the significant spiritual influencer in a teen’s life and they need us to help them navigate the world and faith together. This book will help all parents, carers, grandparents and others involved in teens’ everyday lives to understand the teenage faith journey more and find their place within it.

I Know the Plans REF 5675 The Joy of the Lord

Miss Wright Publishing Ltd was created in 2014 to be an alternative to the big publishing houses, to design a more personalised experience for the author. With the help of the Prince’s Trust, Miss Wright Publishing Ltd was taken to the red carpet by the owner, Gracie Wright. Gracie was given a platform to share her vulnerable life story of losing all memories after a near-fatal childhood accident. Gracie learned to overcome brain injury, even learning how to read and write again by never giving up on her dreams. Her vision has inspired many people to write their stories and overcome adversity.Launching into the vision, Miss Wright Publishing Ltd believes that everyone has a story to share and has opened their services to work with new up-and-coming authors.

"As a little girl, without any pressure from anyone around me, I gave my life to the Lord with a fullness of joy. After the crash, for various reasons, I struggled to visualise a kind God, and so I replaced my path along Christianity with my own path where I hated myself and the Lord. At the time, I don't believe I have ever felt so empty, and could no longer see the purpose of life. Years later in the most surprising of ways, I found my faith again in the darkest of places as I embarked upon the most exciting adventure imaginable! My story has continued to be exciting, and I am genuinely grateful that I now know who I am in Christ as well as in my calling." Read her full story on her website: gracewright.com

People in the world were very bad. God decided to send a flood to destroy all the wicked people. He warned good Noah and told him to build a big boat for himself, his wife and his three sons and their wives. They did what God told them and built the ark of wood, with a window and a door. The ark had three decks – plenty of room for Noah and his family and at least two of every animal. IN YOUR BIBLE: Genesis Chapter 6 and 7 QUESTION TIME: Why did God send a flood? SPOT THIS: Where are the ladybirds? You can be like Noah and do something special for  God. 14

BIBLICAL Lydia

The New Testament tells us very little about Lydia, a seller of purple cloth who was living in Philippi when she met the apostle Paul. And yet she is considered the first recorded convert to Christianity in Europe. In her second work of fiction, Paula Gooder tells Lydia’s story and in doing so opens up Paul’s letter to the Philippians, giving a sense of the cultural and historical pressures that shaped Paul’s thinking, and the faith of the early church. This is a book for everyone and anyone who wants to engage more deeply and imaginatively with Paul’s theology.

Palm Crosses

African Palm crosses are made from Dwarf Palms Hyphaena Coriacea which grow wild and are not cultivated. They are then dried and cut into strips before being transported back to the villages in the Masasi area of southern Tanzania: Mpeta, Namikunda, Mlundelunde, Mumbaka, Machombei, Chivirikiti, Makanyama and Marika. They are then woven into Palm Crosses and taken to a central collection point which at present is in Mpeta. As they are handmade size tends to vary from 15 to 25cm in length.
