welcome... Now that the days are shorter and the weather has begun to bite, what better way to give your self some welcome winter cheer than by dipping into our new season brochure at FTH. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without pudding, pressies and Panto! This year we have a special treat at FTH as Falkirk Youth and Children’s Theatre take to the stage once more with their version of Aladdin. Expect fun and festive frolics with a very Falkirk flavour! Once the tinsel has been packed away for another year we still have lots to look forward to as we take to the floor with a new course of tassle twirling Burlesque, a new day for our little Busy Bees and our Tea Dances and the culmination of the Reasons to Dance project with our friends at the National Theatre of Scotland. We’re also welcoming for the first time the wonderful Random Accomplice with their new plays Double Nugget - guaranteed to bring a smile to even the most dour winter face. Reasons to Dance What is your favourite song to dance to? What are your favourite dancing shoes? Ever had an incident on the dance floor you would rather forget? No matter what age you are, we all have a memory of dancing. The National Theatre of Scotland wants to hear about yours‌ Reasons to Dance is a new arts project in Falkirk exploring why we dance, our memories of dancing and traditions associated with going out dancing. Created by the National Theatre of Scotland in partnership with Falkirk Community Trust, Reasons to Dance combines true tales of dancing with drama, music and visual art in events across the town. In March 2012 Reasons to Dance will culminate in a major theatrical event created by, and for, the people of Falkirk, in a place filled with dancing memories. Venue and booking details will be announced.
The National Theatre of Scotland is looking for groups and individuals from the Falkirk area to share their reasons to dance and to get involved with the project. Special Screening
Tournée (The Tour) with Introduction by Dr Sarah Vernon (Gypsy Charms) Wednesday 14th March As a finale to our Beginners Burlesque, we’re screening this French classic with a short introduction about the history and art of Burlesque and Cabaret followed by a show-stopping curtain raiser featuring Gypsy and any (willing) class participants. Joachim had left everything behind - his children, enemies, lovers and regrets - to start a new life in America. He returns to France with a team of New Burlesque strip-tease performers with fantasies of a tour and of Paris! Travelling from port to port, the curvaceous showgirls invent an extravagant fantasy world, despite the constant round of impersonal hotels and lack of money. But their dream of last grand show in Paris goes up in smoke when Joachim is betrayed by an old friend and loses the theatre where they were due to perform. A quick return journey to the capital violently reopens old wounds... 111mins. French with English Subtitles

Double Nugget Thursday 1st March
We’re delighted to welcome for the first time to FTH one of Scotland’s premier touring companies, hot on the heels of sell out productions with the National Theatre of Scotland (Little Johnny’s Big Gay Wedding , Smalltown) in this double bill of two hilarious and incredible comedies under the banner Double Nugget. Mary Massacre is a bitter sweet, emotional rollercoaster. Two disappointed women wait at the candy floss machine on Irvine Moor sharing a light hearted secret and a fondness for psychics. But underneath lurks a tale of deceit, loss and betrayal. Seven Year Itch is the true story of the brutal slaying of an office worker in America interwoven with delightfully flamboyant tales of two Glasgow co-workers, one of whom is obsessed with Dolly Parton. If you’re the kind of worker who looks at the stapler with murderous intentions, or thinks about shredding your co-workers fingers and for those of you who sing out loud and proud at your desk then this play is for you! www.randomaccomplice.com contains strong language

Passing Through Thursday 16th February
It’s a wet winter’s night at the Dockers’ Social Club and there’s been a terrible mistake. They booked ‘The Ace of Spades’ thinking it was a Motorhead tribute band but they got Tommy the Magician instead. Tommy made a sharp exit and is nursing a pint and a bruised ego in the pub down the road when Alice stomps in from the rain. She’s soaked, been stood up and she’s had it for ever with romance. What neither of them know is that some magic might just be around the corner. Or is true love just another conjuring trick, a sleight of hand? This new romantic comedy by Alistair Rutherford (BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Scotland) is performed in the FTH Lounge Bar.

An affecting drama about three very different, and extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project which seeks to record the stories of the town’s black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern white families.
Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, this juicy drama speculates on an issue that has intrigued academics: who actually created the body of work credited to William Shakespeare? ‘Anonymous’ poses the possibility that the Earl of Oxford was in fact the author operating against a backdrop of scandal at the Royal Court.

George Bailey is an upstanding family-man who, finding his company in danger of collapse, contemplates suicide in the belief that it would be better for everyone if he was dead. But his loved ones’ prayers summon Clarence, a novice guardian-angel keen to earn his wings by helping George by showing him what life would have been like had he never been born…
In this film adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s play, Hester is the former wife of a judge and the nearly abandoned lover of a drunken exWWII pilot. Director and master chronicler of post-war England, Terence Davies sensitively expands the psychological turmoil of the heroine and her overpowering desperate love with luminous photography and brilliantly realised flashbacks.

This original screenplay is a surprising and insightful portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.
