Ice Hockey The Appalachian State Ice Hockey team started off the semester with an interconference game against Old Dominion University. Struck with multiple injuries, the team was forced to play with only 8 skaters. While the 3rd period began with Appalachian down 4-0, the Mountaineers netted two early goals to make it a 4-2 game. The short bench caught up with the team though, and the game ended 9-2 in favor of Old Dominion. The Ice Hockey team looks to bounce back this weekend and build on their undefeated Carolina division record as they head to Charleston, SC to take on the College of Charleston in their first BRHC division games of the semester. -article by Steven Rausch (Vice President)

Snowboarding The season has finally begun and App Snowboard is tearing up what snow this winter has to offer. We had our first race before classes started at Sugar Mountain. For the first time in our history we entered three teams, Men’s A and B teams and a Women’s team. App girls set the tone by sweeping 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, landing 1st as a team. Men’s A Team took 4th place and Men’s B Team also dominated by taking the top three slots. This past weekend we raced at Beech Mountain. Despite the almost constant rain, we fit in one heat on Saturday before the rest of the race was cancelled. Men’s A Team took 2nd, Men’s B Team took 1st, and Women’s took 1st as well. Sunday’s boardercross was also cancelled due rain and a lack of snow. We have a race this weekend at Bryce Resort in Virginia and are keeping our fingers crossed for better weather. -article by Kim Ellison (Team Member)

Women’s Ultimate The Nonads are kicking off the sanctioned ultimate season by heading to Clemson, South Carolina on January 27th for their first tournament of the semester. The first week of practice was met with much enthusiasm as the girls look forward to getting back into playing on a competitive level after a long break. Graduating only one senior in December and gaining some new members this semester, the Nonads are working hard to get in shape and game ready. The team is hoping to do well at Clemson so they will be in good standing for sectionals, which takes place at the end of the semester. -article by Kasey Telfer (Secretary)

Men’s Ultimate The Men’s Ultimate team has hit the ground running since returning from break. Our goal this year is to make it to the Atlantic Coast Regional tournament, something that has never been done in the programs history. This is a goal that is completely reachable, we have the talent, the moxy, the scrappyness, and the dedication to stick with any team in our section. This season we already have 6 tournaments planned including the resurrection of our spring home tournament, the Blue Ridge Thaw-Out. The Nomads are looking to make a statement this year and I look forward to reporting on all the great news from this upcoming season. -article by Daniel Niwinski (Vice President)

Men’s Lacrosse The Men’s Club Lacrosse team is looking forward to the Spring season. With our new coaches that joined us in the Fall and all the other new players, we are excited to start the season. We have our schedule set with our first game against ECU on February 11th. Weather permitting we expect to beginning practicing this week and getting back into our routine. This season will test all of the changes and work that we have put into this team and expect for them to help us come out with a winning season. -article by Scott Murphy (Secretary)
Men’s Rugby AHO Men’s Rugby has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming spring season, which starts with the SoCon Tournament in Greenville, SC on January 28th. The team came up early in January to put in some cold-weather fitness training, and is looking to be in excellent form for the season. On February 4th, AHO will play against ECU at the Charlotte Rugby Club in what is sure to be a hard-hitting and exciting match. We would also like to thank all of our supporters and hope to see a lot of the student body out backing the team this season. -article by Harris Lewis (Secretary)
Fencing If there is one thing that Fencing Club has, it is most certainly some major plans for this ongoing semester. What plans might these be? The simple answer is competition. The ASU Fencing Club is hard at work planning 2 events which it will host over the course of the semester. Beyond that divisionals are also coming up, proving to be the first traveling competition experience some of our newer fencers have ever had. As such, the ASU Fencing club is also hard at work at getting its fencers ready for this competition-heavy semester, which will almost certainly prove to be a ton of fun as well as a great learning experience for some of the newer members. -article by Alex Fogleman (Vice President)
