“I had never really heard of Ultimate before coming to Boone. I'm not sure if it was how welcoming the older players were or realizing how much fun it is throwing a disc around, but I can honestly say I've come to love the game. As I watched the alumni teams this past weekend at the Blowout I can see how they still love the game and the lifelong bonds they have with their old teammates. We have a strong rookie lineup this year and I’m very excited for my next 3 years here at App continuing to play Ultimate with these girls and watching us grow as a team.” -Freshman Taylor Pitt

The Nonads - AppState Women’s Ultimate With the Blue Ridge Blow Out happening this past weekend, Women’s Ultimate is winding down for the semester. The Blow Out was a huge success. We had 11 visiting women’s teams out at State Farm Fields on November 10th and 11th for two fun-filled days of ultimate! Overall, the Nonads came in 6th out of 12 teams, which we were pretty proud of. Sadly, we lost our last game for 5th place against the OldNads, the Nonads alumni team, on universe point, but we were all incredibly proud of how well we played all the way until the end of the tournament.
Senior Jessica Resler put all of our sentiments about the tournament well in saying, “The level of playing that I witnessed on the fields this weekend reminded me why I love and play Ultimate. We go hard, we get competitive and we play to win but in the end we're still friends with the other teams and more importantly each other. Everyone seemed to have an incredible time at the tournament, and it really came together with the help of everyone on the team. For the rest of the semester, we will most likely only be having one or two practices a week. As finals week comes closer, most members will become too busy to have time for practice, which is sad but true. All the way up to the Blow Out though, we were having a great turn out at practices, as everyone was really excited to get a lot of playing time at our home tournament! It has really been amazing to see how much all of our rookies, and our veterans, have advanced. The members of the team are developing a good amount of flow on the field, and it is so exciting to think of how good we are going to be by the end of next semester when sectionals and regionals come around! It is crazy to think that the Fall semester is coming to a close, but it has been a great one for the Nonads. The group of women we have this year is by far the best group the team has ever seen in recent history, not only in competitiveness and athletic ability, but also in the fact that everyone on the team is friends with each other! This fact lends to an incredible atmosphere both on and off the field for the Nonads that each and every member really loves and appreciates. Hannah Teagle, President

On November 3rd, the
Women’s Volleyball National
team and first Regional team traveled to Wake Forest University for the Western Regional tournament. There were two pools and our two ASU teams took first place in each. Our National team lost in the semifinals to UNCC and our first Regional team took 2nd place for the entire tournament behind UNCC. For this being the first tournament of the semester for these two teams, we were very excited about the accomplishment. This weekend, November 17th, we are hosting our 5th annual TaTa Tournament! A certain percentage of the proceeds we collect will be given to help fight breast cancer. We are expecting 10 other teams along with our own 4 teams to compete. We are asking each team and the friends and families who are coming to bring can food for our Club Sports Can Food Drive. The tournament will take place on the first floor courts in the SRC and play begins at 9:00am. Come out and help cheer on App State Women’s Club Volleyball!!! Amanda Davis, Member

For the final month of the semester, Cycling only has a couple races left and is already getting ready for next semester. We have a race at Duke this weekend, NC State the following, and the Conference Championships at Wake Forest right before finals. With finals edging closer, it is always a struggle to make time for riding, school, and sometimes work. But as with anything, you must put into cycling what you hope to get out of it. We hope that all of this hard work will pay off as we are becoming one of the top schools in the Nation. Spring semester brings Road Season, which is the biggest and longest season of racing for the team. We are very excited for the upcoming season and hope for another D1 Conference Championship.

Snowboarding is getting real excited for the upcoming season! The weather is getting colder and our team waits patiently for more snow after our first taste of the year around Halloween. We had some fun times with a lot of our new members on the snow day and really look forward for some consistant snow and riding. Winter is coming up real quick and the team could not be more stoked to get on our boards and starting practice for the up coming races and competitions in January. The snowboard team hopes to see everyone out on the slopes soon. Keep it steezy App State! Joshua Joyner, Secretary

Men’s Lacrosse closed out their Fall season after going to a
tournament at Clemson on October 27th and 28th. Although they did not get the outcome they had hoped for, all the players and coaches were happy with the performance they gave. They came out 1 - 4, with their win against a new team to the conference, Emmanuel College. Some of the other teams included Virginia Tech, Clemson and Wake Forest. The Men's Lacrosse team hopes to come away from this Fall season knowing that they can run and compete with any team they play. This Spring season is looking good for the team and they are ready to get back to playing lacrosse in January and come out with a winning season. Scott Murphy, Secretary

Appalachian State’s Women’s Lacrosse traveled to Duke on November 4th and was matched with a challenging team. In the end, Duke won, however App State walked away with a great attitude and came together as a team. The girls have been working hard to prepare for a tournament at East Carolina the weekend of November 17th to end their Fall season. Practicing outside has been inconsistent, due to Boone’s weather but the team has continued to be dedicated. Practice this week has stepped up and the girls are excited to play against teams in their conference in order to prepare for their regular season in the spring. In light of their last week of real practices, the lacrosse team dressed up as “lax bros” and “that girl” to make things a little interesting and fun. After their ECU Tournament, the team plans to attend Club Sports Night and hold a Christmas party. Anna Norwood, Vice President
AppState’s Club Women’s Basketball “We have clearly gotten a lot better. We know each other and work well with one another. We understand how our teammates play and we almost know where the other person is going to be out on the court.” - Team Vice President, Lauren McKellop
The Women’s Club Basketball team recently hosted our first home tournament here at App State and it was a great success! The teams who participated were Clemson, UNC, Elon, and High Point. We went three for four and defeated Clemson, Elon, and High Point. In these three wins everyone stepped up and played a critical role for our team. Whether it was hitting shots, setting a great screen, or making the extra pass, everyone did their part. Our game against UNC was an awesome game which came down to a last second shot, but unfortunately it didn’t go our way and we lost by only three points. We are seeing huge improvements since our first tournament. Vice President Lauren McKellop said, “We have clearly gotten a lot better. We know each other and work well with one another. We understand how our teammates play and we almost know where the other person is going to be out on the court.” We are now truly executing what we are working on in practice and we are seeing the positive results on the scoreboard. We are also having a good time while doing so. When asked about her favorite moment during competition so far this season Lauren said, “Pretty much every single block by Murphy Doyen!” This tournament wasn’t only a great learning experience in the way of basketball, it also helped us as a team to became more familiar with what it takes to host a home tournament. We are definitely looking forward to doing so again in the future! As stated by Lauren, “All of our players contributed to the tournament which made it run smoothly. I was overall very pleased with the way our team performed.” Casey Tarwater, President

The Equestrian Team is wrapping up the semester with the last two competitions this weekend. Our Hunt Seat Team will be competing at Virginia Intermont and many of our new members are getting to compete for the first time. The Western team is FINALLY getting to compete after a semester of getting the run around about whether or not there were going to be any shows. The Dressage team had their last show of the semester last weekend at Virginia Tech. Halie Cunningham finished in first place for the second show in a row! She now has the most blue ribbons of any ASU Dressage rider in intercollegiate competition! Katie Sedlmeyer also finished first in her Dressage Seat Equitation class. Our newest member of the Dressage team, Katherine Patterson, made her debut and had a wonderful ride finishing 6th.
As we are winding down in lessons and competitions we are starting a new and exciting division of the club called the Horse Development Committee. This committee will be chosen by our coaches and will be geared towards furthering the training of our horses and teaching the members of the committee about horse training. The club has some fun events planned in the next few weeks. We are having our own "Thanksgiving Dinner" after break and will be making boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We are also excited to be helping out at the Hospitality House this weekend and are looking for more volunteer opportunities for the club in the future. We wish all of our competitors good luck this weekend and as always, are so proud to have them representing our team!

Two weeks ago, representatives from App State Fencing Team traveled to ECU for a our first away tournament. Our Fencers took part in the Epee event, a weapon type they practice secondarily to Foil. The Club's fencers ultimately lost to their high-level fifth opponents, but we had a lot of fun meeting and fencing people from across the state. The organizers invited us back to another Epee tournament in the spring, so we hope to see them all again in the future. In other news, the Yosef Open, the annual Fall tournament hosted here at App State which unfortunately had to be postponed back in October, is back on! On December 1st, it will be Fencing Club's turn to hold a competition, bringing Fencers from across North Carolina here to Boone. With that tournament only a little over two weeks away, it's back to training to prepare all of our fencers to take part in what is sure to be a fantastic event.

Bennett Hatfield, Secretary Men’s Ultimate has had a busy end to the Fall season, with our third tournament in a row this coming weekend. ASU Ultimate is traveling to Wake Forest competing in Machine Baby Throwdown. The past two tournaments have resulted in a 7th place finishes, and while competing against high quality opponents we must strive to improve and step up to a higher quality of play. The remainder of the semester will be focused on improving our unit as a team in order to stomp our opposition for the remainder of the year. Hosting the Blue Ridge Blow Out was another success this year, as all teams had a quality level of play and enthusiasm. Thanks to Paolucci’s for hosting an awesome party, and all of whom contributed to the can drive, as a total of 144 pounds of food was raised at the tournament for the canned food drive. The Nomads are looking to tune up and prepare for a potentially bountiful spring season, but it will not come easily. We must be ready to work for it. If you are interested in playing for the team, it is not too late. Solid athletes looking to compete in a sport at a high level are welcome. Keep tuned into ASU Ultimate in the next coming months and expect dominance. Jeffrey Nordgren, Secretary

Executive’s Corner
a word from our executives...
This week at council we voted on two very important issues. First, Women's Basketball was unanimously voted off of probation as a new Club Sports Team, and is now in good standing within our program. They are the last team to go through the probationary process, all new teams from this point on will enter under our Developmental Tier. Secondly, We are excited to announce that we now have a new executive officer for the Spring 2013 term. Hannah Roberts from Women's Rugby was unanimously voted in to join our executive council beginning in the Spring semester. Our committees are all working diligently, with many projects coming up in the near future. The service committee will be doing a service project on Sunday, November 18th at the Hospitality House. Teams are encouraged to volunteer for budget points. Our canned food drive is well on its way with Men's and Women's Ultimate holding the lead with right over 70 pounds each, with Snowboarding trailing only a mere few pounds behind. Thanks to all who have participated thus far, and keep bringing in the cans. Don't forget to mark your calendars for Monday, December 3rd for our Club Sports night to be held at the Women's Varsity Basketball game. We have a lot of exciting things coming up as the semester winds down, and we hope to see high participation in all of them. Morgan Page, Executive Officer
