The Appalachian State swim season is in full gear. We have a great team this year! Everyone is in the zone and practices have been hard but beneficial. With just two meets behind us thus far we can already tell this is going to be a season to remember. This past weekend we hosted the 1st Annual A.S.S. (App State Swim) Halloween Invitational, where both the men’s and women’s teams racked up big points and broke a few pool records, earning our team first place in men’s, women’s, and combined overall categories. One of the practice chairs, Haley Lingle said “the meet was very exciting because we all got to see each other’s hard work pay off.” We are continuing to practice hard and fight through this Boone blizzard in preparation for the Fear the Spear Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida, competing in an outdoor pool with an outlook of 85 degree weather. Our copresident, Kristian, is especially excited for our meet, and the warmer weather in Tallahassee, stating that he will “tan his cheeks in a speedo.” We are excited at how well our team has been doing at meets and hope to continue to make a name for ourselves as we continue competing throughout the rest of the semester and

On November 3rd and 4th, Appstate Men’s Ultimate is traveling to NC State to compete in the Wolfpack Invite. The Nomads are seeded first in their pool and are excited to live up to the expectations. This tournament is hosting some of the best teams in the South East and we are excited to hold our own against top competitors. A few weekends ago we traveled to Fairfax VA and played in the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason University. APP STATE went 7-1, losing in the final game to Georgetown University. This tournament was a great experience for those who made the journey, and we look to improve on our success this weekend at Wolfpack. The Nomads have seen great work this season from our rookie class, as well as our returning players. Looking forward to the College season in the spring, we will strive to improve our conditioning and our overall gameplay. Come out and support App State Ultimate November 10th and 11th at the Blue Ridge Blowout hosted in Boone, NC at State Farm Fields. Do not forget to bring non-perishable foods for the Club Sports 1,000 lbs. Canned Food Drive! Stay classy, Boone North Carolina.

This past weekend the Cycling Team competed in their first Cyclocross race of the season at home. The team competed against Wake Forest, Wilmington, NC State, Carolina, and Virginia Tech and, as a team, won the weekend and are currently leading the Conference. Zeb King won Men's A with Derek Whitescarver finishing 3rd and Jason Midkiff rounding out the top 5! Nina Laughlin crushed Women's A with a win, and Erin Propst finished 3rd in Women’s B. Alan Garvick (leader of the Men's B race for all of the race) had a last lap flat tire that left him finishing 3rd and Justin Evans finishing 5th.

We are also obligated to begrudgingly congratulate ECU for their win, and we also would like to let them know that, as always, we are gunning for them.

been busy with practices, team bonding activities and community service. On Thursday, the team ventured to the Haunted Horn Ghost Trail after practice. While the zombies may have gotten the best of them, it was a fun experience. The Women's Lacrosse Team volunteered at the flu shot clinic on October 26 and will help with the Black Saturday 5K on November 10th. The team has had various problems with practice due to Boone's infamous weather patterns. The Fencing Team was very excited to host their fall tournament, the Yosef Open. Unfortunately, complications arose, and the Yosef Open had to be postponed until late November. Since that development, Fencing Club has been working harder than ever. Everyone has turned out for practices, resulting in improvements amongst new and old fencers alike. Because of the switching around of our tournament dates, Fencing Club will be traveling for it's first tournament. This weekend, on November 3rd, Appstate Fencing will be traveling to Greenville to take part in a tournament hosted by the Pitt County Fencing Association, the home base of East Carolina University's Fencers. Though we may not be battling on our own turf for our first big tournament, Fencing Club is confident and ready to take on the competition.

recently competed in our second tournament of the season at Virginia Tech. Overall, it was a successful weekend for our team. We went 3-2 with wins against William and Mary, Radford, and Richmond and close losses against Virginia Tech and Old Dominion. We are seeing noticeable improvements as the season progresses. Our hard work really showed in our exciting overtime win against William and Mary! Our next tournament is coming up the weekend of November 3rd. We are especially excited about this one because we will be hosting it here on campus for the first time! A few of the teams we will be competing against include UNC, ECU, and Clemson. We hope to continue coming out of games with a win this weekend. It will be really nice to have all of our games played on our home court. This should be our last tournament of the semester so we’ll be sure to come out strong!

The Equestrian Team is continuing to have weekly practices and preparing for competitions. This weekend the Hunt Seat team is sending 12 riders to compete at UNCG. As always we plan to have fun and hope to have some great placings and tactful rides. The Dressage team compete last weekend at Virginia Intermont. Some of our highest placing riders were: Cassie Strobel, placing second in the Low Training division and winning Reserve High Point Champion; Halie Cunningham winning first place in the Upper Training division; and Katelyn Young placing second in the First Level division. We are also planning on having a schooling show on November 10 for our members and boarders at the barn. The club continues to meet weekly but will be changing to meeting on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in the SRC due to construction in the Student Union.

a word from our executives... We had another successful council meeting last night, despite all the weather and snow. We discussed what it takes to be a team within Club Sports, in preparation for the several potential clubs that would like to become a part of this program. Our 1,000 lbs. can food drive was officially kicked off Wednesday during council! Club Sports is hosting an inner-tube water polo event this Sunday night at the SRC pool, we hope to see you there with your canned goods!
