Women’s Ultimate The Blueridge Blowout, the annual ultimate frisbee tournament held by the Nonads and the Nomads, was a success. There were 20 men’s teams and 12 woman’s teams that came to play some competitive and good spirited games. The women defeated the Clemson Tigerlilies for the first time while competing against other teams such as Elon, UNC, and the newly formed Asheville team. As always, Virginia Tech and Clemson showed their true team spirit by dressing up in costume to play. The Nonads suffered from some injuries including their captain, Stephanie Soule, who had a nose injury, and Kasey Telfer who had an eye injury. Despite the injuries during pool and championship play, the girls had a fun weekend packed with one game of ultimate after the next. -article by Kasey Telfer (Secretary)

Women’s Lacrosse Appalachian State’s Women’s Lacrosse team traveled to East Carolina University on November 12th with high hopes for the weekend. The tournament hosted about 8 teams and lasted for two days. App State’s team played two games that Friday afternoon versus Radford and Elon University. After losing to Radford by just one goal in a previous tournament, Appalachian prepared for a close second game. To their dismay, team to get back on their feet. App State’s Radford came out stronger than ever and App women had to collect themselves after such State did not show their true potential. Radford a loss and face Elon University. Elon has got the win, “There was no stopping us” consistently had a strong Appalachian’s lacrosse team each and girls were disappointed and surprised to see the every year. Appalachian picked up their intensity team so disconnected on the field. level during their game against Elon. Coming After a loss it is difficult for any back from being behind, Appalachian played hard and tied Elon 6-6. On Saturday, teams returned to the game fields for another full day of lacrosse. Appalachian met UNCWilimington for the second time this season and NC State University. The UNCW game was an enjoyable one, Appalachian ending up with the win 10-6. The mountaineers looked like a completely different team from the previous day with their smooth transitions and smart decisions back on track. The NC State game was similar, Appalachian kept it up and dominated, winning 9-1.

Swimming Appalachian State Swimming has been off to a great start this year. After winning our home meet on October 1st, we have been hard at work practicing for the “Fall Championships” hosted by Elon. This year there were 20 teams in attendance and over 350 athletes. The woman’s team placed 2nd overall, only falling short to Virginia Tech. The men’s team placed 3rd overall behind Virgina Tech and ECU. One more meet is planned for the fall Photo submitted by Dan Wallace semester on November 19th at High Point. Scheduling and planning has begun for the spring semester and we have a lot of big things in store. We plan to attend meets at UNC, UGA and nationals at Georgia Tech. We will also be having our annual “Meet in the Mountains” on March 3rd. Following the home meet we are planning a swim-a-thon fundraiser. The money raised from the swim-a-thon will go to purchasing a starter system for home meets, and touch pads for timing. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the hospitality house. We are looking forward to finishing this semester out strong and for the big spring semester ahead. -article by Dan Wallace (Secretary)

Men’s Rugby

Last Saturday, a fired up AHO side crushed Western Carolina 83-0. AHO dominated all 80 minutes of the match, and didn’t allow Western anywhere near their try-line. It was clear from the kick-off that the hard, bruising work that AHO has been putting in over the past few weeks has been well worth it, as Western was unable to match the sheer pace and physicality that AHO produced. In the Spring, AHO joins the SRC West Rugby conference of College of Charleston, UNCC, Lander, Furman and The Citadel. -article by Harris Lewis

Women’s Rugby At Duke University AHO won 129-0 in a runaway game. During this game we saw a lot of off-loading of the ball as well as quick passes. Everyone got playing time during this full length 80 minute game. We had a lot of players score tries for the first time which is really exciting. After our big win at Duke last weekend AHO Women’s rugby team is ready for our game against UNCG at State Farm Fields at 1pm Saturday the 19th. Come out and support us in our last game this semester! -article by Susan Harrill (Vice President)
