Club Sports Chronicle Swimming Appalachian State Club Swimming has been off to a great start this year! We practice MondaysThursdays and average around 3040 people per practice. We are all practicing hard to get ready for our home meet on October 1st. We will be swimming against UNC, NC State, UNCG, Elon, High Point, Lees McRea and several other schools. Outside of practice we hosted a scavenger hunt all across Boone for the swim team. It was designed to give new swimmers a tour of Boone as well as a chance for everyone to connect and have some fun together. Come out and support the Appalachian State Club Swim Team at our home meet October 1st at 11am!
Women’s Soccer The Women's Club Soccer team is very excited about this coming season! Due to bad weather, our first week of practice was held indoors. It was somewhat difficult to accommodate 50 girls in such a small area, but we worked it out and are excited to get outside to really get down to business! The team will be competing in two very competitive games against Elon and Virginia at Elon this Sunday! We are anticipating that the great amount of new players combined with our talented team will provide the ability for us to accomplish great things in our games this season. The team is planning on traveling to Virginia Tech for the Hokie Classic on the weekend of September 23rd, which never fails to be an exciting weekend of soccer. Our goal is to be in the final game, which has never happened at this tournament in the past. We are also in the process of planning multiple fundraisers to raise money for new jerseys and for gas/hotel money! Also, we are very excited about our upcoming HOME game versus Wake Forest and JMU on October 9th and we would love to have your support out there! -article by Hilary Bunn (Vice President)

Men’s Lacrosse The Men’s Club Lacrosse team was able to start the first week of practice after having to cancel the previous week as a result of all the rain. But, all the players say it feels good to finally be able to play again and are looking forward to a great year! Although we are starting this year with two new coaches we are confident in them and their abilities and know that they will do nothing but benefit the team. Our numbers are looking strong as we head into the first week of practice and we are waiting to see what they will be like next week. Our President, Vice President and head coach are headed down to Atlanta this weekend for our leagues conference, at which they will pick up some games for this fall and also start to plan for the spring season. So far for the fall we have four games set and have a few more possible games in the works. Everyone is looking to hit the ground running and start the season off strong! -article by Scott Murphy (Secretary)

Club Sports Chronicle AHO Women’s Rugby Last weekend AHO Women’s rugby team traveled to Virginia Tech and played two teams—Virginia Tech and Longwood University. Despite losing, our team played extremely well for being such a young team. Captains, Allie Mackinnon and Bonnie Nyguyen say, “We have a lot of potential on our team and we have a bright future this season. We are extremely proud of everyone that played and we are going places this season!” All of the members of the team that traveled to Blacksburg last weekend got playing time. This weekend our team is looking forward to a clinic which some of our alumni are hosting. We hope to learn lots from them Erika Wullenweber is being thrown into the air in our lineout to restart the ball into play in a game against to better ourselves. The next big event for Longwood University our team is the 14th Annual Rucktoberfest tournament held October 1st and 2nd on the State Farm fields. This tournament is huge for our team and anyone that comes out to support us will have a great time. Fencing The ASU Fencing Team has received many new recruits this year, and is hard at work getting them up to speed. Experience ranges from having taken fencing in high school to just being introduced to the sport. With that said, our veterans have been contributing greatly to helping our newer members learn all the various footwork and parries necessary for bouting in a competitive setting. As an act of preparation for said comptetive setting, the club's first mock-tournament of the year will be held towards the end of September on the 29th here on campus. With that said, fencing looks to be off to an extremely great start. - article by Alex Fogleman (Public Relations)

Club Sports Chronicle Women’s Lacrosse Lacrosse season has officially begun! The Appalachian State Women’s lacrosse team is excited and ready to work. Things are looking promising with 4 new officers and a talented group of new players as well as returning players. Lizzy Lagasse is the team’s new president, Hannah Egan is vice president, Erica Petrocelli is secretary and Lauren Evans is the treasurer. Practices are held at the State Farm Fields on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The first practice was held on August 29th and was full of excitement, energy and new faces. Practices have continued to be productive, frequently ending in scrimmages. Scrimmaging is a great way to put together all of the fundamentals used throughout practice. Unfortunately, State Farm was flooded during the second week of practices but the rain didn’t faze this team! The girls met at the Quinn Center and the Student Rec Center to discuss defense and attack strategies and to work out together. Team bonding activities also took place at the Student Rec Center on a rainy day, allowing the girls get to know each other off of the field. The team’s first game is this Sunday, September 18th at NC State. Every player is excited to take the field and work together to dominate. September 25th is the team’s first home game vs. Lees McRea on the State Farm game field. The girls would love to have their fellow mountaineers cheering them on! The officers and the team are hopeful to have a successful season full of great competition and great fun. -Article by Anna Norwood (team member)

Men’s Ultimate The Men’s Ultimate team has had a terrific start to the season. We had a great turn out of players the first week but numbers have dropped to a solid 25, which is right where we need to be. The rookies this year are blowing all the veteran’s minds with the talent and potential that they possess. The buzz on this team is like none before, everyone is focused and ready to show the world what Appalachian Ultimate is about! Our first tournament is this weekend down at East Carolina University. This is a big tournament featuring two teams that are top in the nation and App actually has 3 players that are a part of one of those teams, so while they will not be playing for App this weekend we still wish them good luck in the tournament. We are seeded 7th out of 8 teams but we are confident that with this low seed we can fly under the radar and beat more than half the teams at this tournament. The team is looking forward for the tournament and ready to get the season under way. -article by Daniel Niwinski (Vice President)

Club Sports Chronicle Executive Corner The past month has been a busy one here in the Club Sports office! As Executives, we have been doing all sorts of things to help get the Club Sports season under way smoothly. Staying on top of paperwork (particularly MIC forms) has been taking up most of our time. We have also been conducting meetings (Officer Conferences, Facilities Meeting, and the first Club Sports Council Meeting), participating in Club Sports events (Welcome Weekend, Club Expo, and UREC Fest), and working with our teams to make sure everyone is on the same page and ready to go. We are also reviewing proposals by the Quidditch and Women's Basketball clubs to become Club Sports teams. As many teams start competing soon, we would like to wish every team good luck and remind everybody to stay on top of all forms, particularly Travel Forms and Competition Reports. - article by Michael Neve (Executive Officer)
