Minutes of Athelstaneford Primary School Meeting Wednesday 4th October 7pm-9pm 1.Welcome and apologies:

2.Head Teacher’s Update: Bikeability 

Thank you to our parent volunteers, Mrs Overmeer and Mrs Reavey – all children in P5/6/7 have completed the first level of bikeability. Mrs Overmeer continuing to support 2 of our pupils who are non-riders. We hope to offer the next level to P6 and 7 before the summer.

Watersports 

P3/4 and P5/6/7 enjoyed a great opportunity to give water sports a go and all returned positive about their experience.

Homework Review 

Thank you to parents who took part in discussion group. We will ask for straightforward yes/ no feedback at parent consultation.

Meet the Teacher 

Quite well attended and well received.

RRS     

Working towards achieving Silver Status: ‘Rights Aware’. Aiming to achieve this by June ‘19 New Rights Respecting group formed Fun Focus Fridays happening once a month. Vertical groups across the school to focus on rights. Fortnightly assemblies focusing on rights and how to respect Kindness Co-op (North Berwick) invited to assembly and harvest donations gratefully received.


Family Learning Week 

Holding first learning week – opportunity to come and observe and join in with childrens learning -hoping for good uptake.

Lunches  

Our new system worked beautifully and made a significant difference to teachers time in class. Thank you to everyone for their support – it was great. New system now in place. It is working well but we would like as many people to order at home and pay on line as possible.

Fire Drill/Safety Audit  

Successful fire drill Fire Safety Audit was very good with only a couple of action points which have been addressed

Big Writing 

Staff attended Big Writing training on the in-service day. We will now develop some of the approaches in class and make use of the marking criteria to track and moderate consistently.

Harvest Assembly 

Thanks to Miss Bertram for organising our Harvest Assembly and inviting Katie Nevan along who shared with the children information about the kindness co-op in North Berwick that helps families in our area. Thank to every-one for their donations. We hope to support this charity again at Christmas.

Village Hall 

Proposals for dates for the alterations are now over the summer and the staff have shared their opinions about which option is best for us.

Quality Assurance    

Recent quality assurance that has taken place: sharing good practice where teacher buddy up observe each other and discuss what they saw thought about how it went. Learning Walk – SMT walk round school to look at displays/ learning Sample Jotters/Learning Stories Tracking meetings

1140 hours  

Janice has met with myself, nursery staff and parents to inform and answer questions about the expansion to 1140hours. This will be going ahead in January 2019 and the key information points are  Will be run on an asymmetric week model, times to be confirmed but will look something like M-Th 8.45-3.15, F 8.30-12.30.  Parents will commit to as much as they want from 1140hrs.  New staff will be required for the start in January.


Children who stay all day will be entitled to a free meal which will be lunch in our case. Again times to be confirmed but probably 11.30 in the dinner hall, accompanied by nursery staff. During the trial the extended hours at Athelstaneford will only be available to those who are already on the waiting list.

3.Financial Update:

4.Fundraising Team Update:

Two events have taken place the Pub night and the Halloween Disco. Calculations are still being made but there is an estimate profit for a total of £500 for both events. Christmas cards have been ordered and have made a profit of approximately £150.

Next event will be the Christmas fair on the 8 of December. If anyone can donate any raffle prizes or know of any sponsors please get in touch with a member in fundraising. Raffle tickets will go on sale th 12 November. Gilmerton house have offered to help with wreath making. Fundraising team are looking into maybe having a curry night in February. Also, are looking at maybe doing more parties in summer for the children, movie night and a sponsor loop race.

5.PVG PVG checks need to be made for any class room helpers’ cost is £59 for one. An update of an existing one is £19. Gillian Zanre is going to make a list of the parents that already have one or those who need an update. Action: G/Z


6. Playground Loose Parts: Kelly Clark from Haddington Lammermuir partnership came into see Sarah Morgan about the playground. She gave suggestions on ways we could use the loose parts in the playground i.e. tyres, buggies keyboards and put use towards imaginative development and health well-being. Kelly is going to come in to the school to give training to the support staff of ways they can make full use of the playground and loose parts. Sarah suggested a big shed would be useful to store all the loose parts and if fundraising could help towards that. Also, the trim trail bark is low looking about 2 bags which will cost approx. £200. Alice is going to look into this and also if we are entitled to any funding for playground development or big lottery help. Action: Action A/B

8.AOCB: Sarah would like if fundraising could help fund two Google Chrome books so each class would be able to have one. The cost would be approx. £600. Alice is going look into this.
