School Newsletter March 2018
Hello! What a mad couple of weeks – we hope you enjoyed the snow days and managed to take some opportunities for some great outdoor learning – it was lovely to see some pictures on our twitter page of you all having fun! It’s so hard to believe we are into March and we only have 3 weeks of term left – it’s going to fly by with so much still top do Health & Well-being We had a very successful whole school Health and Wellbeing topic in January where there was lots of learning about e-safety, road safety, positive mental health, food preparation and healthy plates. It was a really positive experience and many thanks to those parents who gave up their time to come in and help us with the various tasks surrounding this. Buddy Bear Visit There was much excitement among the P1’s – P4’s this week as Buddy Bear paid us a visit. Buddy Bear’s mission is to share the greatest superpower of all kindness and prevent bullying. The children all came to school dressed as a superhero and they all brought their soft toy to school to join in KAPAW Workshops. If you would like any further information on this initiative which was created by local award winning social enterprise Lead a Bright Future CIC please have a look at www.buddybearfriends.com or www.leadabrightfuture.com.
Easter Service As you may be aware the Rev. Evans-Boiten will be leaving us at Easter and therefore will be conducting her last school service with us at the church on Thursday 29 March at 9.30am. It would be lovely to see lots of family members there so that we can give her a warm and friendly farewell. We have invited Rev. Evans-Boiten along to school on 28 March so that we can give her a whole school send off.
Issue 4
School Representations P3/4 children have been enjoying their swimming lessons which are due to finish on 20th March. P2-4 learnt lots of ball skills during their Football Taster Sessions, unfortunately due to the weather the Festival has to be cancelled and we will let you know if this is managed to be rescheduled. Our P7’s represented us at the Cluster Rotary Quiz and put in a great effort. Two of our P7’s represented us at East Lothian’s Youth Summit where they got together with pupils from other schools within East Lothian. They heard from range of speakers including Bruce Adamson, Commissioner for Children and Young People as well as working in groups to share their thoughts and ideas about education in East Lothian.
Parental Consultations As you know parental consultations are due to be held on 20th and 22 March and you should have all now have received your parental consultation slips home or a reminder via e-mail. If you haven’t responded yet please do so asap as we will be issuing time slots towards the end of this week. Can you HELP? We are still looking for help in a number of ways across the school – if you think you might be able to spare any time please get in touch with myself or Mrs Cameron – thanks in advance
Bikeability – in order to deliver bikeability to our P5-7 children we are looking for interested parents to be trained and then deliver this to the children. Running Club – to help us keep the P4-7 Wednesday morning running club going we need a few parents to come along perhaps on a rota basis – let Mrs Cameron know if you think you might be able to spare a few mornings. We are always looking for help within the classrooms and if you think you might be able to help out let us know what days/times you are available.

What’s been happening ……….. The Nursery have been busy learning about keeping themselves safe and healthy. We had some great road safety scenarios in the playground using trikes, balance bikes, zebra crossings and traffic lights. The children also helped to prepare healthy snacks for the school during health week. We have had Burns supper and Chinese New Year celebrations too. Following on from Mother's day activities we are just starting our mini topic about 'Babies and Growing’.
Primary 1-2 have started their new history topic. We have been learning about family trees and we are looking forward to comparing life now to that of our parents and grandparents. P1 have also started a mini-science topic on forces and motion, whilst our P2's join their P2 peers to learn about electricity. We have also been learning French with Madame Swan.
Primary 2-4 have had a busy term! We have been focusing
on
George's Marvellous Medicine for reading, writing, drama, art and science learning. We enjoyed our whole school health topic, especially the food part where we learned to use different equipment, and to work hygienically in the kitchen when making food for each other. It's been an active term too with football sessions, swimming lessons and gymnastics in PE. Buddy Bear also came in to help us think about friendship and being kind to ourselves and others. A class Buddy Bear will come home with everyone in turn to spread some kindness! The class are now learning how to create electrical circuits and are looking forward to a visit from an electrician. It’s been a busy term in Primary 5-7 full of action, cross country running, rugby and dance to the tune of ‘Mission Impossible’ The class novel, Wonder, has been enjoyed by all and brought up rich discussions about characters and personal experiences.
