School Newsletter February 2015
We’ve had a very exciting term so far with a Burns Supper, an inter-house football match, a visit from a judo champ and several great trips. There’s lots more excitement to come, as you’ll see when you look at our packed list of events coming up. In the meantime, I wish everyone a good holiday and, if you’re going away, a smooth and safe journey. See Maths Teaching – LIVE! Confused by modern teaching methods? Interested in how children learn maths skills? Want to enjoy seeing your child learn? Grab an opportunity to do just that! Mr Devereux and Miss Hutchison are offering times when you can come and watch them teach so you can observe how children learn numeracy and maths. Please have a look at the times below and if you see one which suits you, please contact Mrs Cameron to make a booking. We’ll give you a free ring-side ticket to learning how children learn. This isn’t a fundraising day – it’s just for fun!

Keeping Wee Ones Safe Please can parents of nursery children be mindful of potential hazards in the school playground when dropping off and picking up children? We have had a few accidents before nursery starts with children running and falling down the ramp, and jumping off walls and boulders. Also the top playground often has large puddles which ice over at this time of year. Thank you for your help. Red Nose Day We will be selling red noses on Friday 13 March at £1 each. Children will be wearing normal school uniform on the day, but are welcome to wear red face paints or have red hair if they wish! Sporty Pupils You will be aware that there are lots of exciting sporting activities taking place at the moment and we realise this means extra work helping children to organise their kit. Here is a reminder of some of the activities to help you plan. Primary 2 & 3 have one more week of football on 2nd March. Unless it pours with rain, this will be outside on the field so children will need suitable footwear and warm clothing. There is also a football festival for P2-3 on 1st April. Primary 3 & 4 continue with swimming for another three Tuesdays so will continue to need their swimming kit. Primary 4-7 have one more rugby session on 3rd March so will need their outdoor kit and suitable footwear. Primary 6 and 7 pupils can continue to take part in Mr McCann’s lunchtime cross country running club on Wednesdays. Remember that pupils taking part will need a packed lunch.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Tokens There are some seriously lovely resources available for free in exchange for Sainsbury’s tokens. If you use Sainsbury’s in Edinburgh for shopping or fuel, please collect the tokens and hand them in to the school office, or send them in with your child. Do you have relatives or friends who live in Edinburgh? If you do, please send a message to them to collect the tokens and pass them on. We could get PE equipment, and even a small number of tokens can provide some playground games. Please spread the word; the more people you can recruit the better!
