After all the fun we had orienteering in the school why don’t you try a local event. East Lothian Orienteers is the local orienteering club. They are very friendly and love to see children trying out the sport. Their next local event is on
Saturday 2nd April 2016 at Vogrie Country Park. Just follow the orienteering signs when you get there. You will be able to register and borrow a dibber from about 1 a.m to 3 p.m but its best to get there early if it’s your first time. There are always people who will be only too happy to help you get started. It will only cost you £2.50 as a junior if you are not a member of an orienteering club. You can have an adult ‘shadow’ you at no extra cost. If your parents want to have a go themselves it will only cost £5. That is pretty cheap for a fun adventure in a lovely park! You will see families going round together, even babies in pushchairs. You will get to keep a waterproof map of the course you complete and when you download a printout with your name on it showing how you did. The full results will appear on the Club website so you can see who took part and compare how you did. You don’t need to bring anything special, just dress for the weather and wear trainers or shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy……oh yes, and a smile! If you can’t make it but would like to have a go there will be events in the next few months in the early evening at -
Polson Park, Tranent on 7th April and
-
Lodge Gardens Park, North Berwick on 25th May
