IN 2008, WHEN I WAS THE MANAGING EDITOR for this publication, I had the opportunity to take a hard-hat tour of Buckhead’s soon-to-be tallest building at 3344 Peachtree. While I have never been afraid of heights, climbing the construction elevator to the top of the 50-story tower that is now the Sovereign building was at once dizzying and exhilarating. Taking in the Atlanta skyline from such great heights was indeed a memorable moment—particularly when so many other high-profile developments (The St. Regis Atlanta and what were formerly known as The Mansion on Peachtree and the Streets of Buckhead) were also starting to rise in the sky at that time. Fast-forward to 2014—let’s forget that little recession, shall we?— and we’re starting to see just how much potential these still-newsworthy developments possess. Buckhead Atlanta, for one, will open this fall. Inside this issue, Beth Webb dials up the drama for a pair of empty-nesters at a Sovereign residence (page 74) with pattern, color and an impeccably curated art collection. At The Residences at The St. Regis Atlanta (page 100), Melanie Turner puts her signature design stamp on a Elizabeth Ralls glam pied-à-terre. refined, menswear-inspired aesthetic. The new Buckhead venture also affords the interior designer an opportunity for artistic experimentation. “I typically don’t do a lot of color, but Townhouse is a design laboratory,” says Brown in reference to the shop’s bold “Red Room.” Expect fresh design displays to reflect the shop’s ever-changing offerings cultivated under Brown’s creative direction. robertbrowninteriordesign.com

HE’S ALWAYS HAD A KNACK FOR SOURCING UNIQUE and finely crafted home goods, so the opening of retail concept Townhouse by interior designer Robert Brown was simply a natural extension of his work. The three-story shop—located in The Galleries of Peachtree Hills—is a brilliant showcase of Brown’s urbane aesthetic. “We’re offering a different point of view as my design style tends to be simpler and a bit more masculine,” says the designer. Vignettes resembling living room spaces shine a spotlight on Brown’s bespoke upholstered furnishings and case goods collection, as well as accessories sourced from around the world—think glassware from Turkey, vases from Belgium and textiles from New Zealand. For stateside vendors, Brown is lending his signature design stamp. “We’ve got some great pieces from Natural Curiosities out of L.A. that we’ve put our own spin on by working with them to change the color scheme of a particular piece of art, for example,

12

so that it’s unique,” says Brown. “Even the Barbara Cosgrove lamps in Townhouse boast our own color of shades. It was important that we present items typically found around Atlanta in an exclusive manner.” Also exclusive to Townhouse is the store’s shopping experience. Visitors are encouraged to linger and stay awhile, whether it’s grabbing a cocktail or iced tea at the bar or by enjoying billiards, all to the soundtrack of Otis Redding, Estelle and more. “I want to offer both designers and consumers a place to hang out. Providing a great experience is a lot of what it’s about here,” says Brown. Never one for complacency, the designer is already imagining the shop’s future. “This fall, I’d like to host a series on Thursday evenings to engage more people in the design community,” he says. Cocktails and great music included, of course. 425 Peachtree Hills Avenue, Ste. 32, Atlanta 30305. (404) 917-1333; robertbrowninteriordesign.com

Alex Smith Garden Design

A VEGETABLE GARDEN, GREENHOUSE, WILDFLOWER MEADOW AND RENOVATED HOUSE MAKE ALEX SMITH’S CHAMBLEE HEADQUARTERS A LIVING PORTFOLIO OF HIS STUDIO’S WORK WRITTEN BY Danny Bonvissuto PHOTOGRAPHED BY Mali Azima

AFTER TOURING A POTENTIAL STUDIO space in Chamblee, landscape designer Alex Smith asked his father for advice. “You can do it,” said his dad, who owned a custom millwork company in Macon. “But it’s going to be a heck of a lot of work.” The house was falling down and inhabited by hobos. The grounds were covered in kudzu. Still, Smith was intrigued. Cost kept him from pulling the trigger, but when the price dropped five

16

years later, Smith signed the contract, wrote the check and rolled up his sleeves. “Most people would’ve torn it down, and we did everything but,” says Smith, who worked with in-house architect Todd Pullen to keep the original lines of the house intact. What was once a 1,500-square-foot house on an acre-and-a-half of native vines is now a 2,500-square-foot, five-room studio with a

heated greenhouse and cold frame (or protected plant bed), and thriving vegetable garden. Employees enter through the seasonal wildflower meadow that Smith plans to fill with sunflowers in celebration of his 15th year in business this fall. “We also grow blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and an enormous amount of strawberries in the spring,” Smith says. “I have three little girls who love to pick them.” Family finds its way into other parts of his Smith’s studio, too, such as the set of black-and-white photographs taken by his brother, Adam Smith, which line the landscape architect’s upstairs office. “He went to Ole Miss and did a study on blues musicians in the Mississippi Delta—a lot of old blues guys and juke joints,”

Smith says. “He also did a beautiful color shot of live oaks on a plantation I work with in South Georgia. It hangs over my drafting table.” A framed collection of arrowheads honors Smith’s father, who died before the building was bought. “I have fond memories of hunting for arrowheads with my dad,” Smith says. “We’d find them when someone would plow a field and turn up the earth.” Integrating the outside and inside, in fact, is what Smith does best. “There’s an old saying about making the house and garden one,” he says. “Clients can experience who we are, how we design and our attention to detail through our studio. This property has become a living portfolio of our work.”

This Los Angeles-based interior designer and author is a master of creating casual luxury, and the family living room Corrigan designed at Palazzo Rosa, this year’s Atlanta Symphony Associates’ Decorators’ Show House & Gardens, was no exception. The effortlessly elegant space was also a showcase for the prolific designer’s inaugural collaboration with Schumacher—a vibrant fabric and furniture collection, which he debuted earlier this year at the Schumacher showroom at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC).

AROUND TOWN WITH

Naomi Von Habersham ONE OF THE MOST COMMON DESIGN AILMENTS seems to be “Stuck in a Rut Syndrome,” a condition whose symptoms include living with the same decor for decades. I, on the other hand, suffer from an illness that is at the opposite end of the spectrum: I change my home’s decor at whim, sometimes as frequently as every few years. My problem is that there are so many great looks and styles that both catch my eye and strike my fancy. Three decades ago, I was all about the English Country house look. (Weren’t we all?) I channeled John Fowler and Mario Buatta and decorated my Ansley Park abode with yards of Colefax & Fowler chintz, Oriental rugs from House of Persia and antique ancestral portraits depicting someone else’s ancestors. How I loved that style … that is, until I discovered Pierre Deux. I remember the day I walked into that charming cottage. (As you’ll recall, Pierre Deux was once located in the West Paces Ferry Road bungalow where Coast restaurant now stands.) Those fabrics! That French Country furniture! Off to storage went the chintz and English furniture. Replacing it was a plethora of Pierre Deux furnishings, which covered my home from floor to ceiling. The only thing missing from my Provençal fantasy was a field of sunflowers. Since then, I have jumped head-first into 90s minimalism, flirted with the Belgian look, flipped for Hollywood Regency, revisited Billy Baldwin’s aesthetic and rehashed old-school Palm Beach style. Now? I’m back to where I started. I’ve gradually reintroduced my English Country pieces into my home, and it’s a comfort to again live with these old friends. The Country French look has also been on my mind—I believe it will come back in fashion soon—or at least, a variation of it. It might seem chaotic to live in a constant state of decor flux, but I thrive on it. Life is simply too short to stay committed to one look alone.

SARAH O’BRIEN’S LOVE AFFAIR with baking began at age 10, when her grandmother gifted her a rolling pin and a copy of her beloved apple pie recipe. Although never formally trained as a pastry chef, O’Brien spent her youth honing her culinary skills, even interning at Parisian bakeries during her time abroad. She eventually put down roots in Atlanta and opened the doors to The Little Tart Bakeshop, a French-inspired bakery in Grant Park that’s gained a cult-like following. “We have a lot of fun combining French techniques with Southern ingredients. NINA CAMPBELL The celebrated London designer heads to Cashiers for this year’s Showhouse. We caught up with her on a recent visit to ADAC. Nina Campbell is one of the world’s most respected and influential interior designers. Her list of clients and design expertise is unparalleled. Renowned for her contagious wit and brilliant sense of style, her designs appeal to both young and old and sit well in both contemporary and traditional interiors.

YOUR BOOK, NINA CAMPBELL INTERIORS, IS A TREASURE TROVE OF EXQUISITE PHOTOGRAPHS AND PROJECTS. WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART ABOUT BRINGING YOUR INTERIORS TO LIFE THROUGH THIS MEDIUM? It is always

PHOTO CREDIT: PHOTOGRAPHS REPRINTED WITH PERMISSION FROM NINA CAMPBELL INTERIORS BY NINA CAMPBELL ($45, CICO BOOKS).

very difficult bringing the homes to life in a photograph but our photographer, Simon Brown, made it as easy as possible. What I really wanted to show in this book was how all decisions made should reflect and answer the clients' needs. What was really fun for me was the differences between the various projects, such as working in China, Gstaad and New York.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW TABLETOP COLLECTION. The collection is ongoing and timeless. It’s based on a brilliant color palette of amethyst, peridot, topaz, pink sapphire and aquamarine.

YOUR LONDON SHOP WAS RECENTLY REFURBISHED. TELL US ABOUT THE NEW SHOWROOM CONCEPT. I believe everything needs to be brought up-to-date once in a while. We wanted to create a brighter space with more light and combine the shop and showroom. The upstairs floor is home to all our accessories, such as glass collections, cushions, linens, etc., while the back of the shop is dedicated to fabric, wallpaper and paint. We’ve dedicated the lower floor to antiques and our bespoke furniture collection.

BRINGING IT BACK STATESIDE, YOUR LINE IS AVAILABLE THOUGH THE RECENTLY EXPANDED AINSWORTH-NOAH SHOWROOM AT THE ATLANTA DECORATIVE ARTS CENTER. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT THE AMERICAN SOUTH? I am so excited to be back with AinsworthNoah and ADAC has always been hugely supportive, for which I am immensely grateful. Atlanta has always been a favorite place for me and as a Brit, I find that the South, especially Atlanta, is a place where my designs are most appreciated.

WHAT’S YOUR NEXT PROJECT? I am doing a couple of hotels in Germany, a house in the New York countryside and various other interiors projects. We also have some new furniture pieces and accessories in the works. *Nina Campbell will speak and sign copies of her book, Nina Campbell Interiors, on Saturday, August 23, at The Country Club of Sapphire Valley. Visit CashiersHistoricalSociety.org for more information. 15

HONORARY REGIONAL DESIGNER The Cashiers Designer Showhouse is pleased to designate Barbara Heath of The Mercantile as the 2014 Showhouse Honorary Regional Designer. From her first room at the 2011 Cashiers Designer Showhouse, her fresh and distinctive rooms have continued to be Showhouse favorites.

LETTER FROM THE EVENT MANAGER Welcome to the 2014 Cashiers Designer Showhouse! I am so pleased to welcome you to the 2014 Cashiers Designer Showhouse! We are looking forward to your visit to yet another beautiful Cashiers home reflecting the charm of living in our stunningly beautiful mountain community. Over the years that I have been involved, I’ve met and worked with so many fine people, special chairmen and talented designers and their crews. Each year is exceptional, but this year may be one of my favorites. For our 17th consecutive Showhouse, we are privileged to open the doors of Hilliard House. Twenty-five area and regional interior designers and landscaper professionals have spent the better part of the summer reimagining this beautiful home and grounds to bring you a glimpse of what’s new and trending in design coupled with the inherent graciousness of the southern lifestyle. It simply takes a ‘mountain of folks’ to create this magic every year and we are just so very pleased you are joining us!

Whether seeking a perfect solution to an intriguing design task or working a detail to the end, Heath borrows from qualities she inherited and learned from her mother, a designer at Chicago’s Marshall Fields. A family move to Atlanta brought to fruition a childhood dream of opening a retail and design business similar to the one she had once envisioned. She soon introduced Atlanta to The Mercantile, a home design boutique with contemporary and antique furnishings and accessories that boast a delightful sense of design in a spacious contemporary gallery. The Mercantile was quickly designated “Best in the City” and “Retail’s Star of the Year” in Home Accents Today. In 2011, Heath was awarded a National Award as “Rising Star Retailer”.

ceilings and a gracious and open floor plan for large-scale entertaining. Bedrooms and adjoining baths are intimate and private with each perfectly positioned for a picture-frame view of Whiteside Mountain. A sweeping veranda—stretching the entire width of the home—welcomes you inside while the porches and decks, at the rear of the home, beckon a lazy summer day spent with a glass of lemonade and a great book.

As relevant today as when completed in 1993, Hilliard House boasts extraordinary and encompassing views, soaring

Originally built by the Powell Family in 1993, Joe Marlin and Beth Hilliard purchased the home in 2003. The Hilliards, members of an old and

prominent Floridian family active in multi-interests including cattle and cane, were happily located in Continental Cliffs but fell in love with the wooded acreage and views of Whiteside at the top of the Timber Ridge community. Timber Ridge was developed in the early 1980’s and was well-sited for those wishing to build beautiful private family homes on large acreages. Hilliard House is at once inviting and calming yet filled with the promise of family adventure and laughter. The home represents a definitive Cashiers style encompassed by the land and the majestic views!

Welcome to the mountains of Cashiers as seen through the perpective of the late designer Charles Faudree, where fabrics, textures and colors play off the natural landscape of the breathtaking mountain setting.

A refreshing take on a classical mountain theme, the owner and architect juxtaposed traditional design elements to create a beguiling look, a home filled with light using both contemporary and traditional furnishings along with an eye to the spiritual connectedness of the Valley.

Silver Mine Farm at Silver Run ARCHITECT: Caroline Rolader, Reu Architects HOUSE STYLE: Contemporary INTERIORS: Abigaila Cancelliere LANDSCAPING: Natural to site With soaring heights, tactile natural elements and lots of light, this contemporary take on classical design creates an aura of spaciousness as well as intimacy. Large rooms, a neutral palette and chic furnishings combine beautifully to define the newer trends in home and interior design.

LETTER FROM THE CASHIERS HISTORICAL SOCIETY CHAIRMAN As Chairman of the Cashiers Historical Society, I would like to thank each of you for your generous support of CHS through your visit and interest in the Cashiers Designer Showhouse. Over the past 17 years, the proceeds from the Showhouse have not only allowed us to pursue our mission of preserving the heritage of Cashiers Valley in countless ways but have also guaranteed the safeguarding of two mid-19th century homes, The Zachary-Tolbert House and Crooked Corners, and two early-20th century facilities—the Kitchen Dependency and the Old School House. A simple and heartfelt thank you as we look forward to your visits. We are forever grateful for your support.

THE 2014 DESIGNERS “Cashiers itself is uniquely inspiring. Every design team paints an image in their minds of the end result, keeping in mind scale and function. Then comes the fun of selecting fabrics, paints, art, furniture and accessories in a matter of days, weeks or months. They're always looking for “the find,” that special statement piece that pulls everything together. Designers always opt for unique and meangingful pieces that are glorious on their own, but when placed in a room with other accoutrements, they magically illuminate the space.” -Barbara Heath, Honorary Regional Designer

The owners of this meticulously curated Buckhead high-rise found their dream design partner in interior designer Beth Webb. Formerly a pri-

vate art dealer, she was tasked with creating a sophisticated space that would also double as an inviting gallery for a downsizing couple’s collections. Case in point: the master bedroom vanity lined with high-gloss built-ins and complemented by Ida Kohlmeyer and Robert Jessup paintings and a 19th-century French commode.

“MORE IS A MORE” is the maxim Beth Webb employs to describe the two-bedroom high-rise she designed for a peripatetic couple looking to downsize. “We created a glamorous pied-à-terre,” says the designer, who culled the homeowners’ former Tuxedo Park residence for contents to outfit the Sovereign condominium in Buckhead. Between an eclectic art collection and formal furnishings—from an Ida Kohlmeyer painting and ancient African statues to Neoclassical antiques and velvet-clad seating—“the overarching challenge was making it all work together,” says Webb. Situated on a unit and a half within the luxury tower, the terrace-lined townhouse embodies the couple’s flair for the dramatic. “We wanted to dial up everything a notch,” says Webb of the year-long revamp that included statement-making customizations. “Every bit of this house is dramatic; there’s nothing that’s not,” she admits. In the foyer, worthy of a cinematic grand entrance, the designer layered with abandon, installing high-gloss fluted walls, marble slab flooring and a custom inlay door with bookend vignettes of the owners’ treasured gilt furnishings. In another bold stroke, Webb suggested ebonizing the kitchen, instantly elevating the room to moody proportions, while allowing the space to seemingly disappear from the adjoining living room in the condo’s open floor plan. “We took an ordinary kitchen—added a jewelry-like Kallista faucet, made a statement in stone backsplash, changed the lighting—and made it into something much more sophisticated,” says the designer.

Webb, who began working with the owners on their former home, was also relied upon for her art expertise. “It doesn’t feel like home until the art is hung,” waxes the former private arts dealer. “And this house is all about the art.” She honored the collection by allowing it to take the design lead. Lit and mounted on every wall, and displayed in every recess, careful planning was taken to accommodate each of the treasures collected from more than 35 years of globetrotting. In the master bedroom vanity, custom highgloss cabinetry was designed to house the homeowner’s antique sterling silver collection gathered from European markets. Another highlight of the three-dimensional travel log is a set of four wood Burmese monks. “They had the amazing monks originally in the sunroom atop a piano and they were always a favorite of mine. I knew exactly where they should go—I said they’re going to take a bath,” playful says Webb, who lined the stone master soaking tub with the four antiques figures. To temper the lovely melange of pattern, texture and century-spanning pieces, Webb introduced white walls to accommodate the exclamation points of strong color and print. Case in point: Crystal, wood and gilt finishes commingle with animal print, velvet and leather upholstery in the natural light–filled living room bathed in Benjamin Moore’s White Dove. Rich jewel tones, such as the plum curtained master bedroom windows, complement the stylistic mix and fortify the formal vibe. To further modify the mix, Webb reinforced spatial breathing room instead of filling the spacious townhouse to the brim. “My directive was to give everything enough air to see and appreciate it,” she says of the all-important edit. “The couple was so shocked when they got it all in. Everything they love is here.” Always one to correlate interiors to accessorizing, Webb theorizes that “art in a home is like putting on a bracelet with your little black dress.” To that end, this glamorous high-rise is a like a gem-studded charm bracelet revealing the owners’ passions and travels. See Resources, Back of Book. 82

Taking a cue from the owners’ flair for the dramatic, Webb introduced a dark kitchen to counterbalance the neutral palette of the adjoining living room. New additions included under-lit cabinetry, a polished stone backsplash and a jewelrylike silver faucet from Michael S. Smith’s For Town collection by Kallista.

“IT’S ALWAYS FUN WORKING WITH SOMEONE who likes to mix things up a bit,” says interior designer Carole Weaks. Tasked with creating a fresh perspective for a client downsizing from a spacious abode into a multistory European-influenced townhouse, the project was all about embracing change—and taking a few design risks in the process. And, says Weaks, ushering in a new beginning in a new house called for all-new rules. Their initial goal: to let the home’s strong architectural bones take the lead, by complementing soaring ceilings with oversized light fixtures, allowing Palladian-style doors in a rich mahogany to pop against a neutral palette and using cast-iron fireplaces as anchoring focal points. Next up: the editing process. “People often downsize without really downsizing—they take their stuff with them and jam it into a smaller space,” Weaks says. “My

client didn’t mind letting go of anything that didn’t work.” Divesting her client of the excess, then, proved painless. Items that did make the transition included a set of ladder-back dining chairs put to good use in the dining room, given the homeowner’s penchant for French Country, and pieces with flattering finishes, from a collection of patina pottery that dot the media room to a gilded mirror presiding over the dining room. Winding up the staircase from the split-level, second-story entry, Weaks was careful to establish a design cue for the rest of the home on the stairwell landing: an eclectic welcome thanks to an 18th-century leather bench, an abstract painting, a modern wooden sculpture and an antique chandelier. “They all speak to her and the variety of things she likes,” says Weaks of her art-loving client. “The interiors of this house are very personal.” This mood is carried over 91

into the adjoining formal living room, awash in tonal shades of white, where antiques mingle with new finds. “When you walk into this room, it has a very layered, good feeling to it,” says Weaks, who designed the room from the floor rug and coffee table up. “That Lucite coffee table is one of my all-time favorites. It’s heavy enough to be substantial, but it doesn’t visually take up much space.” Weaks introduced color to the space in deliberate doses. “Her former home was saturated in red and more red, so we were getting away from that, yet I knew she would miss some color,” she says. Because the home is four stories, she employed off-whites, grasscloth wallpaper and French-blue accents to ground the main floors, making up the difference with rich chocolate walls in the master bedroom. Tempered with cream accents and blush-pink bedding, the color adds high drama to the space. In the guest bedroom,

bright silk wallpaper matched to a botanical Travers fabric dressing the chaise lounge creates a serene moment, punctuated by an architectural salvage headboard. “It’s a really delightful room, and it’s a treat to guests who want something that feels a little different from home,” says Weaks. One major change the homeowner had to contend with in the the decidedly laid-back space, was a new way to entertain. Closed-off quarters for caterers to prep for large-seated affairs from her former home have been exchanged for a more casual, open floor plan. “We had to rethink how she would use her new space,” says Weaks. “The first time she hosted a party in her new home, she had pots on the stove and dishes set out for guests to serve themselves; it was a different mindset for her, but she had a ball doing it.” This fresh perspective seems to have paid off beautifully, indeed. ARTFUL ESCAPE

A young couple enlists interior designer Melanie Turner to create the ultimate luxury pied-Ã -terre high above the treetops of Buckead.

“We wanted to have a surprise in every room, says Melanie Turner of this high-rise condominium she designed at The Residences at The St. Regis Atlanta. In the spirit of adventure, she included vintage taxidermy in every space. In the living room, she placed a tailored white sofa between a skirted armchair and an Oly Studio side chair covered in cobalt velvet. Midcentury lamps adorned with bells add sculptural interest, while gleaming shades, a midcentury Italian starburst mirror, brass coffee table and goldleaf pig add sparkle.

Turner enlisted a New Orleans artisan to design the showstopping chandelier. right A painting by Kevin Archer hangs above an antique, stone-topped library table that doubles as a dining table when the couple entertains. The wing chair is by Amy Howard.

MELANIE TURNER’S PROJECTS TEND TO GET NOTICED. Her interiors, which appear often on the pages of shelter magazines, also tend to be uniquely glamorous, which brought her work to the attention of a young couple in need of a high-style, urban retreat for their second home in Atlanta. The pair’s landing pad: The Residences at The St. Regis in Buckhead, a 26-story building boasting some of Atlanta’s most coveted condominiums, thanks to private elevators, enormous terraces and access to the hotel’s concierge service. “The apartment is above the tree line,” Turner says, “so you feel like you’re overlooking Central Park in New York.” The designer was determined to capitalize on the rare sunset views from her clients’ terrace. She also wanted the terrace to serve as a natural extension of the interior living space and bought a theatrical teak root dining table in Bali to headline the gathering space. But when move-in day arrived, the table wouldn’t fit through the apartment’s doorways. Undeterred, Turner ran down to the street where crews were installing the holiday ice rink at the St. Regis, and convinced the crew to loan her their crane to hoist the table up to the residence’s terrace. Thankfully, the interior furnishings were easier to deliver. A mix of tailored furniture, jewel tones and statement accessories lend a sense of occasion to the artfully arranged rooms. Every element of the apartment was chosen for its ‘wow’ factor. “The more unique, the better,” says Turner of her selection process. “We wanted everything to be one-of-a-kind and special.” The living room’s chandelier is a prime example of Turner’s curatorial process. “It was like a piece of statement jewelry,” she says. “The wife and I both love gold bangles and it was like a big bracelet for the room.” Against its cool white backdrop, there are visual surprises wherever the eye lands. From the goldleaf pig perched on the coffee table, to the massive, sculptural terrace dining table, every piece took advantage of the luxury of a second home, namely that it can be as stimulating as you like since it is enjoyed in limited doses. Works of art by Georgia artists Todd Murphy and Kevin Archer pay tribute to the location, and contrast vividly with antiques such as an Italian carved table and black-lacquered Dorothy Draper chest. With exquisite art, sophisticated furniture and a stunning view, Turner’s jewel-box of a high-rise apartment encompasses the best the city has to offer. See Resources, Back of Book.

MARCIA SHERRILL

Life … According to Marcia

OUR SENIOR CONTRIBUTING EDITOR REVEALS WHAT’S ON HER RADAR THIS MONTH

My new favorite meal … Is an entire Vascello Pizza at Argosy. Call me a pig, but I am devouring each and every slice.

I recently fell back in love … with the classic Bal A Versailles. In a pinch, however, I grab Hermès’s Bel Ami for men.

The last time I cried … was last night, as I listened to “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, and remembered my momma, Jojo. You are always someone’s kid. Even if that someone isn’t here.

My latest read … is a tough one, as I have more than 600 books on my three-year old iPad. I am diving in to both 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami and Byron Easy by Jude Cook, which had me laughing so hard I darn near fell out of my bed.

I am addicted to …

I am off to … Jamaica, where I will be stalking my daughter, Anabelle, like a game hunter on the Serengeti. I love to stay at The Half Moon Club, and the most sublime and intoxicating thing that I do every year is to take “The Belle” swimming with horses.

So, I must grab … a few caftans at Tory Burch, or my fellow travelers will be subjected to my untanned and unexercised bod. 112

Pellegrino and lemon, which I carry to parties— and even out to dinner—in my Roll Tide Tumbler. I have to quench my thirst all day due to my uncontrolled chewing of Nicorette gum.
