Uncompressed 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 and 1Gb LAN
We are pleased to announce the launch of the first HDBaseT™3 matrix product to the market
Using HDBaseT™3 technology, these powerful HDBaseT™ matrix support uncompromised 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 resolutions over distances up to 100m over a CAT6A. The new HMX88-18G and HMX44-18G come into their own with advanced audio features specifically designed for maximising the integration of AV sources in the modern home. Enhanced audio routing is achieved through the integrated audio matrix. This enables the audio from displays (via HDMI ARC or Optical S/PDIF), and all other sources to be embedded and routed through the system at the users discretion. The inclusion of a 1Gb Ethernet channel allows for LAN serving to all HDBT outputs / zones as required, IR and RS-232 pass-through, advanced EDID management, and PoC provide the ultimate flexibility.

THE CASE FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

In an industry obsessed with progress where every day brings a new product launch, software update or integration challenge, the idea of doing nothing feels almost scandalous. The smart home industry is by nature focused on problem solving, always chasing the next innovation, the next project, the next client demand. But here’s a thought: what if the best thing you could do for your business, your creativity and your sanity was… nothing?
Some of the greatest breakthroughs in history didn’t come from frantic activity but from moments of stillness. Einstein’s theory of relativity? Thought of while daydreaming. The idea for Google? Came during a moment of reflection. Even the classic Eureka! moment happened in a bath, not in a boardroom. Yet in the AV and smart home sector, we often wear busyness as a badge of honour—overloading schedules, answering emails at midnight and filling every gap with ‘productivity.’
The problem? A constantly overloaded brain isn’t a creative one. Studies show that when we step back and disengage, our subconscious mind takes over, making connections and solving problems in
ways our conscious mind can’t. It’s why some of your best ideas happen in the shower, not during a Zoom call. Our brains need space to process, to join the dots and to think beyond the immediate task list. But in a world that prioritises speed and efficiency, taking that step back can feel counterintuitive. Have a think and be honest, when have some of your best ideas happened? During a busy planning meeting, or quieter moments?
This isn’t an argument for laziness; it’s an argument for strategic idleness. Taking a step back allows you to see the bigger picture. A business that runs at full throttle 24/7 without pause risks missing the very opportunities that could make all the difference. Maybe that difficult project needs a fresh perspective. Maybe a client problem has an obvious solution if you stop staring at it for five minutes. Maybe that next big idea is already in your head but hasn’t had the breathing room to surface. So here’s a challenge: schedule some nothing. Block out an hour with no emails, no phone calls and no social media. Take a walk, sit in a quiet room or just let your mind wander. You might be surprised by what happens.
In an industry driven by innovation, sometimes the smartest move isn’t to push harder but to pause, breathe and let the next great idea find you.

KALEIDESCAPE CONTINUES TO INNOVATE WITH THE STRATO M MOVIE PLAYER
The top team of Tayloe Stansbury, Chairman & CEO and Priscilla Morgan, President & COO chart the company’s recent impressive development, including the introduction of the new Strato M Movie Player.
Having spent many years in leadership positions at the head of technology and software companies both B2B and consumer facing, Tayloe was ideally placed to lead Kaleidescape into its next phase of development when he joined in November 2020. His vision for the company was clear, “You have to look after your customers and deliver innovation. You can have the best marketing in the world, but if you don’t deliver those two key areas, long term success will not be delivered.”
As well as being based on the sound general principles that have delivered success throughout Tayloe’s career, the company’s new leader had personal reasons for wanting to take Kaleidescape to the next level. “I became a customer of Kaleidescape in 2011, when an integrator convinced me to have the system installed. I was a little sceptical at first, but like many customers, as soon as I saw the quality I was hooked.”
However, Tayloe was a little frustrated with the progress of innovation on offer, and this provided the perfect backdrop to move the company forward when his involvement evolved from customer to leader. Tayloe explains, “At the point I was invited to come onboard, there had been no new product for nearly three years.”
So, some fresh innovation on the product side was a priority, but not the only side of the company targeted for improvement. To engage with and justify dealer’s commitment to the brand it was important for the company to bring in key team members such as Priscilla Morgan to move things forward.
Before joining Kaleidescape, Priscilla spent over two decades leading and scaling businesses in the entertainment technology industry, including time at Dolby. Priscilla’s experience has been rooted in expanding market reach, driving operational efficiency and executing
strategies that position companies for longterm success. She reveals, “At Kaleidescape, I’ve focused on strengthening our go-to-market strategies, deepening partnerships and driving revenue growth with expansion in new products and territories.”
Since Tayloe and Priscilla have been leading the company, the maker has evolved at a rapid rate due to its aggressive and unwavering approach to innovation. Priscilla says, “Our biggest achievements include the successful launch of our next-generation players (Strato M and Strato V), bringing the Kaleidescape experience to a much broader audience, the expansion of our movie platform into other territories, adding thousands of titles to our UK movie store and our entrance into commercial cinema – bringing library releases back to the big screen.”
THE TAYLOE STANSBURY ERA OF INNOVATION (2020-PRESENT)

Tayloe confirms that a big focus has been applied to the building of strong relationships across all areas including with studios and other important partners, strengthening the brand and justifying the increased marketing activity that has been undertaken to support growth. Tayloe reveals that moving forward, “Our marketing reach will also be expanded to reach consumers as well, to drive more traffic to our dealers.”
All this effort has seen strong engagement from dealers. Priscilla reveals, “We’ve seen incredible momentum in our dealer network for residential installations, reaffirming that there is strong demand for high-performance movie playback that only Kaleidescape can provide.”
The company’s ability to deliver a robust product line that meets the needs of all customers for multiple markets, residential, marine and commercial theatres is a testament to the fresh approach to innovation, strengthening core technology, and a commitment to delivering the best entertainment experience possible.
Progress needs a plan however, so right from the start Tayloe set about building trust from the ground up.
One of Tayloe’s first actions was to reinstate support for the Premiere line that had been discontinued in July of 2020. The thinking was simple: this had damaged customer/dealer support and so the logical act was to reinstate hardware repair, software releases and disc recognition for Premiere products.
Tayloe explains another area that he wanted to improve. “We had noticed a drop off in usage of new systems following the period after the initial installation. Users were experiencing frustration with download speeds which declined engagement over time. Our new architecture to solve this was to separate the playing of movies from the download side, improving performance across the board. Using this system, engagement jumped way up.”
To support this process, marking four strong years of innovation and improvement, the company set about increasing the power of Kaleidescape systems with larger drives as well as faster download speeds via re-designed boards and solid-state versions of movie servers.

Tayloe explains that these efforts led directly to the company’s introduction of the Terra Prime Servers product line in 2023. The Terra Prime SSD downloads a Kaleidescape high bitrate 4K movie in as little as four minutes and can serve up to 25 simultaneous playback zones.
Terra Prime SSD 31TB stores 500 movies and the 8TB model around 125. The Terra Prime HDD versions also delivered impressive stats, downloading a Kaleidescape high-bitrate 4K movie in as little as eight minutes and serving up to five simultaneous playback zones in the compact version or 10 in the full-size model.
The Terra Prime HDD 96TB can store 1,600 titles, the 48TB version offers around 800, the HDD 24TB version delivers 400 and finally the 8TB stores around 130 movies. With these powerful server options partnering the Strato C player, supporting 4K Ultra HD playback at up to 100 Mbps and 60 frames per second, along with lossless DTS:X and Dolby Atmos, the company had built a formidable proposition from which to fuel even more innovation.
The quality of playback available led to growth in new areas for the company. Tayloe

underlines that Kaleidescape is now present in commercial cinemas as a convenient and highquality playback approach more than capable of matching legacy systems. The progress Kaleidescape has delivered was also recently acknowledged by being included on the Fast Company’s ‘Next Big Things In Tech 2024’ list, an initiative that identifies strong innovators across the technology sectors.
With this impressive progress in place, the company had a powerful platform from which to move forward, leading to the introduction of the Strato V player nine months ago. The aim was to introduce a product that could deliver all of the performance Kaleidescape is known for across audio and imaging, at a new price point.
Tayloe explains, “This was something customers and dealers had been asking for and was a genuine game-changer. Since that introduction, player sales have doubled! A strong indication that we made the right calls and produced what the market wanted.”
A few short months later the company is ready to innovate again with the Strato M.

CONTINUED INNOVATION
Strato M is the maker’s new entry-level movie player for residential, marine and commercial theatre systems. Offered at half the price of Kaleidescape’s previous lowest-cost system, Strato M supports lossless multi-channel and spatial object-based audio, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X as well as reference 2K video, with higher bit rates and bit depths than Blu-ray, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, BT.2020 and 4:2:2 chroma.
Strato M works on its own or as part of a larger Kaleidescape system. As a standalone system, Strato M provides a single playback zone that holds a half-dozen movies on an internal solid-state drive – downloading a movie in about 10 minutes over gigabit Ethernet. It features a streamlined interface, optimised for navigating a small movie library, offering automatic off-loading of watched movies 48 hours after playback to make room for more movies. Purchased movies can be redownloaded at any time.
Strato M can also be grouped with the Terra Prime server line to increase storage. This returns Strato M’s interface to the full Kaleidescape user experience. Strato V, Strato C and Strato M movie players can all be grouped together with one or more Terra servers, to fit any entertainment needs.
Kaleidescape Strato M also provides access to the Kaleidescape movie store, the world’s only digital movie collection with lossless audio and full reference video quality. The movie store offers thousands of 4K and HD titles
for purchase or rent, including movies, TV series and concerts. Kaleidescape movies are downloaded, not streamed, so there is never buffering or loss in quality.
Excitement has been building as Kaleidescape’s continued innovation has led to game-changing additions to their product line up, as Priscilla explains, “The Strato M movie player is designed to make the Kaleidescape experience accessible to a broader range of consumers looking to enter the Kaleidescape ecosystem. We’ve listened to what customers want and are delivering a product that is easy to integrate into an array of home entertainment environments, while maintaining the referencequality experience Kaleidescape is known for.”
Tayloe is equally enthusiastic, “The Strato M is going to open up the market even further. Again, this product maintains the Kaleidescape playback quality we are known for at an even lower price than the Strato V. The Strato M will be attractive to new customers looking for the ultimate playback system, but will also be a great option for existing customers wanting solutions for smaller rooms or other properties away from their main dwelling.”
The Strato M is also styled as a strong ‘gateway’ product, opening up opportunities for integrators to introduce customers to Kaleidescape’s ecosystem. Priscilla underlines, “Kaleidescape isn’t just another content source—it’s a critical component to provide whole-home entertainment. It delivers the highest-fidelity playback available, with lossless audio and reference-quality video
that maximises the performance of premium AV systems. It also integrates seamlessly with home automation and is easily scalable, making it essential for integrators looking to deliver a best-in-class experience.”
Tayloe agrees, “As customers fall in love with the quality, their system can evolve with them, offering more opportunities for dealers to expand each customer’s engagement, and not just with Kaleidescape products, with all the AV products and systems that partner the playback such as speakers and vision products like projectors and high-quality large screen TVs.”
It’s clear there is lots for integrators to engage with and improve the experience for customers with the existing line up and now the new Strato M, but there is more to come.
Tayloe reveals, “The Strato M is a very exciting launch, but we won’t stop there. No details yet, but rest assured we have an exciting and continuing product road map ahead that will continue to cement our position and deliver opportunities for dealers.”

In the second of our Installer Spotlights series, we focus on Ciaran Wilkins. Ciaran is owner of The Big Picture, an award-winning home cinema company based in Walsall. He has spent over 20 years working alongside developers, architects, interior designers and homeowners to deliver bespoke cinema and media rooms and home automation products.
Ciaran first met Ian Morrish of Together for Cinema when he was recommended to him for a TFC project, via CEDIA. The project in question was a brand-new cinema room installation for the Ronald McDonald house in Birmingham. The charity exists to give families a place to stay when children are receiving care in hospital, and operates 14 houses across the UK, keeping families together in stressful times.
The first step in any installation is finding out what you have to work with. In a new build or residential space, this is usually pretty straightforward. Residential rooms are often purpose built or easily adapted but, as Ciaran explains, in the Ronald McDonald House, things were not quite as rectangular as he had hoped.
“The first step is going to site and meticulously measuring every aspect of the room,” he says. “This is particularly important for sound design, because of the way sound bounces around a space. I will then do a technical design of the room in 2D and use the
design to create 3D renders. This allows the client to see exactly what I intend to do and why. Unlike a residential property, the room in Birmingham House was particularly angular so in the planning phase, I really had to consider

where to position the audience and on which aspect to place the screen. I also had to make decisions on screen type, size, resolution and loudspeaker locations for fully immersive sound. The cinema would have all sorts of

people enjoying movies, so there were a lot of conflicting requirements, but we came up with a solution that really works!”
Ciaran is used to spending time with his clients, offering consultations before install, and aftercare to ensure they can use their new equipment successfully. With this install, Ciaran is unlikely to meet any of the families who will
use the room, so this presented him with a unique challenge.
“I had to think hard about simplifying the day-to-day operation of the cinema room, without compromising performance,” he explains. “We also had to consider the noise and disruption of the work we did to install and prepare everything. Often, visiting families need
peace and quiet, so we had to make sure we kept noise and dust to a minimum while drilling holes and running cables.”
Even with all these challenges, Ciaran wholeheartedly recommends getting involved with a project like this, because working with Together for Cinema to deliver this cinema room has been just as impactful for him and his Big Picture team, as it has for the charity and the people that use it.
“It was great to attend the opening and see the effect that this kind of project can have on the lives of those using Ronald McDonald House. It’s great to hear the families’ feedback and think that we’ve been able to make a positive contribution to their lives when they’re going through tough times,” he finishes. “I’ve always felt that cinema has a unique way of taking us outside our own experience and into other worlds. I hope that this new space does exactly that, delivering wonder, fun, magic and laughter to anyone who visits.”
There are many ways you can help, either through becoming a charity partner, joining a sponsored event, or offering time or equipment for one of our upcoming projects. If you would like to find out more about how you can support Together for Cinema, email Ian Morrish: ian@togetherforcinema.co.uk,

NETGEAR NIGHTHAWK M6 PRO: REVIEW

Staying
online
can
be a challenge for
busy professionals, so EI thought giving this
top-of-therange mobile
internet solution a test run would be a useful assessment of what these types of products can do. EI Editor Daniel J Sait took it for a spin.
Integrators by nature are often on the move, on-site, visiting clients, then away from work wanting to make the best of downtime. A big part of doing this successfully is remaining online. On-site can be a challenge. Working somewhere remote? You might not have the mobile signal to communicate effectively. On a business trip? The same applies. At play, even though it is nice to have a break, still being able to communicate is vital for those running a business. Enter products like the Netgear Nighthawk M6 Pro Wi-Fi Router, designed to do just that.
This is Netgear’s top-of-the-range model for the Nighthawk series and offers both 5G mobile broadband and Wi-Fi 6E technology, allowing the unit to create its own Wi-Fi network using the 6.0GHz frequency band as well as the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands used by WiFi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 routers. The M6 also offers the option to connect directly for high-speed wired connections using Ethernet or USB-C. The built-in rechargeable battery is rated for 13 hours, but this will obviously depend on usage scenarios. A built-in mains adapter means that where there is power, it can top up or power itself directly. The maker says the M6 can
support as many as 30 devices at once.
One of the first things you notice is the size of the product. You really can just carry it around in your pocket or throw it in a work or travel bag without being burdened (105mm on either side, 21.5mm thick, weighing 256g). It also feels sturdy. We did actually drop it a couple of times (sorry, Netgear), but the unit did not seem to mind and carried on working with no fuss. Getting started is simple: remove the back to install the battery and your chosen 5G SIM, power up via the USB-C connector, and you are good to go.
The M6 is designed to support international roaming across 125 countries, so it can cope with most trips. The 2.8in control panel provides plenty of real estate to access the main features, and one handy ability is a QR code on the home screen that allows connection for a smart device. To save power, the unit transmits its Wi-Fi on 5.0GHz as standard to provide compatibility with a wide range of devices. However, you can switch to 6.0GHz for devices that are Wi-Fi 6E capable. For those not capable of either, the router supports 2.4GHz. The unit can also send simultaneously on both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands or 2.4GHz and 6.0GHz. We found
that doing this drained the battery faster, as expected, but overall, the unit provides enough connectivity to handle most devices and needs, offering a good level of flexibility.
In buildings with patchy Wi-Fi, the unit can also connect to the available Wi-Fi and extend it by moving it to the struggling location. It is even possible to see this product being useful in projects where Wi-Fi extension is needed, but the budget does not allow for a full system redo. In a domestic setting, the product can be set to either ‘Ethernet+Cellular’ or ‘Wi-Fi+Cellular’. This means the unit will automatically look for the home network but switch to 5G if the network drops below a given threshold. We all know that 5G coverage in the UK is far from ubiquitous, so handily, the M6 will drop to 4G automatically if it cannot find a 5G signal. Some products require you to do this manually, so that is a plus for the Nighthawk.

This campsite on the Isle of Skye provided a real challenge for staying online

SIGNAL PROBLEMS?
For our unit, we used a 5G-capable data only SIM card from Vodafone on a contract and had a few other options from Three and Smarty ready. Experience shows that having multiple options pays dividends around the edges of networks.
Anyone who has sampled the delights of Wi-Fi on Britain’s rail network will know it is patchy. Particularly at peak times on a busy service, trying to get online can be a challenge. The network we tested with was Southern, travelling up to London for various appointments and interviews. We are happy to report that it did not put a foot wrong, allowing both phone and laptop to stay connected—not just for basic tasks but also bandwidth-hungry
activities. Want to watch a bit of Netflix or listen to your Tidal account? We had no issues. At home, your need for the Nighthawk should be relatively limited unless you are having a new fibre broadband system installed – the wrong wire is cut and you are without internet for 48 hours. Needing to stay online for work and play, we decided to take the Nighthawk up on its offer of connecting to 30 devices and be our internet for a few days. We were able to run a Sky Q system in two rooms and support general internet access for work and browsing with no problems.
SKYE’S THE LIMIT?
So far, so good. But what about a proper challenge? Away from work, EI likes to get out and

about. Although there were no trips into Europe during our time with the Nighthawk, we did take it on a trip around the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye. For this task, the unit was required to accompany us on foot and also had the chance to work with the 5G Pro antenna fitted to the official EI motorhome, made by Motorhome Wi-Fi.
There are places in the Highlands where there simply is no signal, so it was no surprise to encounter this on a few occasions—no fault of the unit. A fairer test was taking it to a spot with almost no signal to see how it performed. The spectacular location of Glen Brittle Campsite on Skye was ideal. One of the selling points of the place, apart from the scenery, pristine beach, and incredible night sky, is the fact that it is almost impossible to get a mobile signal. Guests are encouraged to embrace that fact and enjoy a ‘digital detox’. As laudable as that might be, we had other plans.
After a long day hiking and swimming, we wanted to watch Rob Roy on the motorhome’s TV via streaming. The Nighthawk managed it! With some help from the 5G antenna on the van, and although not the best picture ever, it was still a decent endorsement of the unit’s capabilities.
For busy people at work and play, it is a really decent solution. It is not the cheapest at around £450, but it has the chops to match its top-ofthe-range status. Use it in your business and away from work and you will have a really reliable signal companion.

EXPANDING PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE WITH CEDIA’S ONLINE LEARNING

Richard Hunt, Operations Manager at SmartSi, looks at the advantages of online learning.
A little over a year ago, I found myself stepping into a completely new industry - one I had always found fascinating due to its continual evolution - but had never worked in before. My background was in the private sector, yet here I was, diving headfirst into the world of smart home technology. My interest in this field was sparked after undergoing an eye operation, which made me delve deeper into the benefits of using technology to simplify and improve the quality of life.
One of the first things I realised upon entering the smart home integration world was the complexity and depth of knowledge required. From high-end entertainment such as media walls and cinemas, security systems and lighting control to full home automation, every aspect of a smart home demands technical understanding. Whilst my role as Operations Manager does not involve the installation and commission of products and systems, I was eager to develop clearer communication with both clients and colleagues, using the correct terminology and offering informed insights. Especially when providing aftercare to our highly valued maintenance and support subscribers. We offer support seven days a week and I was eager to be able to provide solutions without bothering our engineers by taking the pressure off my team. That’s when I turned to CEDIA’s Online Learning portal.
SmartSi has been a proud CEDIA member since 2018, but training resources had not been fully utilised previously. Recognising the importance of continuous learning, I decided to take full advantage of the platform.
One of the standout benefits of online learning is flexibility. My schedule makes it difficult to attend in-person training, also offered by CEDIA, so the online courses enable me to learn at my own pace - whether at home, during a holiday or between meetings. It’s essentially a 24/7 classroom that fits into my work life, rather than disrupting it.
Even the smallest bits of knowledge gained from these courses can make a significant
difference. So far, I’ve completed a handful of courses, covering topics such as cinema basics, speakers and design and planning. These have opened my eyes to the depth of the industry, and to appreciate the time that our Design Director dedicates to perfecting project plans for our customers. This has given me a thirst to further explore and continue to improve.
CEDIA plays a crucial role in shaping the future of smart home technology. Its comprehensive training programmes help both newcomers and seasoned professionals stay ahead of the curve. The online learning platform offers a plethora of courses designed to cover every aspect of smart home integration, from design and planning to subsystems like sound systems, video streaming, security, and even cable management. The knowledge available is extensive and specific, ensuring that professionals can deepen their expertise and gain credibility in the industry.
Being a CEDIA member comes with significant advantages. Besides the access to world-class training resources, it provides networking opportunities, industry insights, and
a sense of community within the smart home sector. For businesses and individuals looking to enhance their skills, build trust with clients, and stay informed about the latest trends, membership is invaluable.
My experience with online learning has been nothing short of transformative. Enrolling in courses was straightforward, the layout of the platform was clear, and the learning material was presented in an easy-to-digest manner.
For those considering whether online learning is worth the investment - my answer is a resounding yes. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your expertise, CEDIA’s Online Learning platform is an indispensable resource. The world of smart home technology is far bigger than most people realise, and with the right training, the possibilities are endless. CEDIA is continuously adding new content and materials to the LMS, strengthening its commitment to education and leadership in the smart home industry.

LUXURY MARKET PRIMED FOR GROWTH IN 2025
Jason Knott, EI’s resident number cruncher, former CE Pro Editor and data solutions architect evangelist at D-Tools, has some good news.

While there appears to be some caution regarding the state of the UK economy, the high-end luxury side of the market appears to be full steam ahead, which is good news for integrators.
According to a study from Affluential TrendLens 2025, 57% of High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI) expect their disposable income to increase in 2025, and smart home technology is one of the top targets for that income. A High Net Worth Individual (HNWI) is defined as someone with between £1 million and £30 million in investible assets. That is not to be confused with an Ultra High Net Worth Individual (UHNWI) that has more than £30 million in investible assets.
According to the study, ‘luxury wellness’ is the cornerstone of the spending that will take place in 2025 by HNWIs and UHNWIs.
The study recommends that businesses catering to these individuals look to “strike a balance between health-driven initiatives and indulgent touches.”
For integrators, this means highlighting your ability to use technology to deploy wellness solutions in your clients’ homes. Human-centric lighting control, indoor air quality and even water quality solutions are among the obvious categories to offer as a wellness solution for luxury customers.
Moreover, the research pinpoints “smart home and in-house luxury technologies” as one of the key areas where HNWIs intend to spend their money. According to the report, HNWIs are “more influenced by digital innovations that seamlessly integrate into their lives, offering convenience, exclusivity, and efficiency. The focus for this demographic is on technologies
that elevate their day-to-day experiences, rather than virtual escapism.”
The report says that technology is evolving to cater to the expectations of UHNWIs, and it specifically calls out Crestron, Savant and voice control solutions using “AI concierges and biometric-based security systems” as offerings that wealthy customers are being drawn toward.
UNDERSTANDING THE ULTRA-WEALTHY MINDSET
If your target market in 2025 is the affluent market, it is important to understand the mindset of wealthy clients. These individuals share certain attributes that inform their decisions and preferences:
1. Time is more valuable than money: Wealthy clients prioritise efficiency and convenience, often making decisions based on time savings rather than cost.
2. They think in terms of return on investment (ROI): Affluent clients want to see value in their purchases, whether through enhanced lifestyle, added convenience, or property value.
3. They rarely gamble: Risk-averse, they prefer tried-and-tested solutions over new or unproven technology.
4. They prioritise quality over the latest gadgets: Unlike mainstream consumers, they are less attracted to the newest gadgets and more interested in established, high-quality products.
Thus, effective proposals for this audience must go beyond technical specifications. Instead, your proposals should emphasise areas such as project timelines and equipment quality, knowing that wealthy clients are more concerned with saving time and ensuring a high return on investment than with finding the lowest bid.
Interestingly, among the other areas the report mentions where affluent individuals will be spending more money in 2025 are enhanced luxury travel with boutique-style amenities, luxury food and beverage experiences such as those provided by private chefs, and VIC (Very Important Client) experiences characterised by ‘exclusive’ clubs or products.
Luxury ‘wellness’ looks set to be a key trend

IMMERSIVE HIGHGATE HOEDOWN

After L-Acoustics released details of its hyperreal immersive sound system HYRISS and its installation at the company’s Highgate HQ, EI was keen to visit. Business Development Director Nick Fichte gives EI the tour of this cutting-edge experience.

L-Acoustics acquired the desirable address of 67 Southwood Lane, Highgate in 2014 to use as a hub for developing L-ISA (L-Acoustics Immersive Sound Art) technology, creating a showroom space for the technology from the beginning.
Nick explains, “Over the years changes were made and in 2020 when we decided to deepen our commitment to the Home & Yacht verticals, further changes were made to make the space suitable for systems integrators, architects, interior designers and end-users wanting to learn about the technology. Over a three-year period, we had gathered lots of feedback and in late 2023 plans started to integrate the latest solution from L-Acoustics, HYRISS (Hyperreal Immersive Sound Space) into the showroom. Works commenced in 2024, with the space relaunching in September 2024.
The development was spearheaded by L-Acoustics Founder, Dr. Christian Heil, with
support from the application and product management teams. Interior design and decoration of the space were done by Lyne B., while specialist Cinema Luxe realised the interior architecture. Nick says, “A few adjustments were made along the way, but if you look back to the original, the vision is still very much the same as at the start of the project.”
THE EXPERIENCE
Nick reveals, “The first part of the process was to remove all of the existing products that were in the showroom, which have now been reallocated to a new R&D facility just down the road in Kentish Town. We also repurposed the acoustic treatment that had been installed to make way for HYRISS. Cinema Luxe pre-built all of the panels off site at their facilities and then installed them within a matter of days. The technology then had to be installed and then the fabrics integrated within the panels. The

we can have a space with a low RT for enjoying playback music and movies, but can then transform it into a concert hall for playing live music, or maybe you just want the room to feel more natural when having a conversation. Anything is possible.”
Nick adds, “We then also have technology which allows us to take a conventional mono, stereo or surround source and move it to any position within the room, so that you are not fixed to a single listening position. We can also spatialise existing stereo content using very clever algorithms, which detect different sounds within that content and place them around the room, removing the sweet spot and painting the room with sound.”
DEMONSTRATION TIME!
Nick says that integrators always wanted to experience L-Acoustics in a home cinema environment. Within HYRISS the space is equipped with a 98in LED screen, which is placed at one end of the room and because of the positioning of the loudspeakers, the room can play Dolby Atmos movies from a Kaleidescape in its native format.
Nick says, “Seeing people’s reaction to this in such a large room is very special. For me, one of my favourite clips is from the Amy Winehouse movie Back to Black – there is a scene in this movie where the song Stronger Than Me starts playing in the background whilst Amy and her friends are drinking in the pub, it then
transitions to her recording the song in a studio, to then playing it live in Ronnie Scott’s. I love it, because in each different location you hear that each space has a different acoustical property and that is what we are trying to get across to the design community: thinking of sound in a space and how different spaces create different emotions when listening.”
From EI’s point of view, the whole experience is very impressive and this begins even before anything is played, as switching the systems on immediately isolates the space from the outside world. It is just like a pair of noise cancelling headphones, but for the whole room! Shallow from A Star Is Born performs wonderfully well with huge amounts of detail. EI also noted

that footsteps as Ally walks on to stage, the harmonies, and great clear dialogue all deliver this scene just as it was created to be experienced. A bit of Top Gun: Maverick shows the system has power also, but always under control. With the surround effects in some of these scenes sometimes overwhelming less capable systems, the room presents the vision for the movie in fully accessible, full throttle enjoyment and detail. EI instead of we also really liked the ability to move stereo delivery around the room, a great feature of larger spaces where the desired listening position may change depending on the activity, time of day and so on. Another impressive feature is to bathe the room in ‘wellness’ audio. EI experiences a rainforest experience for example – great for meditation, yoga or just chilling out. Despite all of these impressive performance abilities, EI’s favourite party piece is the ability to change the acoustic properties of what is being heard to create a ‘live experience’ inside the room. It really is the closest thing EI has experienced in terms of this type of tech – close
your eyes and it really does feel very realistic. Music venue, cathedral, take your pick.
So the space has been up and running for some time now – what is the ambition and benefits expected from the HYRISS demo space?
Nick says, “Helping people understand that L-Acoustics are more than just a loudspeaker company. Our company ethos is about creating connections through shared experiences. HYRISS is one of the best sound experiences you could ever have. This means that integrators, architects, interior designers and end-users are having their eyes opened to the possibilities of what can be achieved and this is not limited to just home and yacht projects but also corporate, hospitality and many other verticals.”

ICONIC PERFORMER?

The Bluesound Node Icon brings a 5in colour screen and audiophile chops to audiophile streaming, but is it right for the rack? Our trade focused reviewer Richard Stevenson finds out.

Bluesound’s Node streamer has undergone several iterations and numerous software updates from its original Gen1 launch over a decade ago. It has since gained MQA, HDMI eARC, Dirac, the most comprehensive range of control system integrations on the market, and was one of the first streamers to offer true HRA. Its audio credentials have been designed and fine-tuned over the last 10 years by the same team responsible for NAD’s Masters Series components.
At under £500 retail, the Node remains a high-performance bargain streamer for installs, not least as they fit two-wide in the rack and stack without overheating thanks to vertical venting. I can vouch for this as I am running six of them. While the BluOS app and software developed a reputation for being a bit flaky back in the day, it’s now extremely solid, usable and reliable.
It would be easy to look at the new Node Icon as just a Node with a display, but it offers a whole
lot more: Dual ESS Sabres DACs, balanced XLR analogue outputs, aptX Bluetooth and THX AAA headphone technology to name a few. It remains slim enough to run two-abreast in a rack, albeit growing to 2U height to accommodate the 5in full colour display. Top-mounted touch controls have been expanded to include a nicely responsive volume slider and five presets.
Integration with popular control systems covers plenty of bases including Crestron, C4, ELAN, RTI URC, Savant and Lutron and BluS API is an agile beast with plenty of flexibility in system design and customisation. Out of the box it is AirPlay2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Roon Ready, Alexa Skills enabled and capable of DSD playback.
It offers Dual-Band WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet and two-way Bluetooth 5.2 aptX to access the outside world and there are HDMI eARC, analogue, USB and Toslink for local sources. A built-in IR sensor with remote learning, a 12V trigger and both wired and wireless sub outputs are all top-notch additions for installers. Top that off with Dirac Live (with paid levels) room EQ and a headphone output driven by one of the best-in-class headphone stages, and if there is anything missing off the ‘must-have’ list, I can’t find it!
Build quality looks solid with an aluminium case but it doesn’t quite exude the bulletproofness of the original rubber-clad Node. The paint finish will ensure the surface doesn’t go tacky over time (as it tended to on Node Gen1), and the cool-running electrics with a non-vented case top will ensure dust remains on the outside.
Setting up Bluesound is very simple, with the app automatically detecting a new player soon after it is plugged in. Transferring Wi-Fi credentials is straightforward, and the app’s audio menu gives you some minor tweaking over tone control, sub controls, replay gain and mono/L/R/stereo output. You can set a fixed output level, bypassing app and top slider volume control, if the Node is feeding a system with a master volume.
Ironically, as a Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect fan, the Bluesound app becomes almost redundant as the Icon works seamlessly with both, with relevant artwork popping up immediately.
Straight out of the box, the Icon establishes its audiophile credentials with a crisp and spacious balance, with fine detailing. Bass is tight and fast rather than gizzard-wobbling, but that serves to give the overall sound a sophisticated and nuanced presentation.
Female vocal, choral, light classical and folk all work exceptionally well with true audiophile clarity. Motorhead, not so much.
Rolling in our default Velodyne MiniVee X (now in ‘Q-Acoustics white’ thanks to a Redline makeover) and the Icon gets its rock boots on too. The tight LF works well with the MiniVee X, creating an articulate, super-punchy sound that would have the most hardened audiophile nodding appreciatively and foot tapping to Jay-Z.

Reaching for the Dirac license, Bluesound calibrated mic kit and the laptop, things get very interesting. Appreciating Dirac, or any Room-EQ systems, is room dependent; the full bandwidth EQ added richness and depth to an already impressive performance in our test setup. The selection of target curves further allows individual tuning of the overall balance, giving installers the option to offer a customer-preferred result before signing off on the system. Back-hauling the TV output through eARC HDMI worked equally well, turning any 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system hooked up to the Icon into a slimmed-down AV performer.
Over about a month of use, the Icon stayed up and visible in the app 100% of the time. Gen1 Nodes on the same network often have unscheduled holidays where they simply disappear from the app for a while, suggesting the later units’ connectivity is much more robust these days. Browser access to each player’s controls is straightforward, giving the installer
remote control and configuration options should the customer get finger-happy with the user settings.
The Node Icon is a great step-up from a Node, prettier, more flexible, better featured and rocking that superb display. Given the core architecture, ESS DACs, stunning headphone stage and display, the Node Icon in use feels more like a stripped-down NAD Master’s M66 than a beefed-up Node. Its handy £900 RRP is less than twice the price of a Node and a small fraction of an M66, making it something of a first-class bargain.
The Icon is designed for both consumer Hi-Fi systems and AV installations alike, perhaps favouring the former with its impressive colour screen and on-board user controls. While I grant you those features are far from essential inside a kit-room, I can’t help thinking that two or four zones of Icon screen goodness would look damn fine with the rack door open.

SIGN LANGUAGE

Pierre Gillet, Vice President of International Sales at BrightSign, explains how AI-powered digital signage is transforming engagement and personalisation for customers and installers.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming digital signage and digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising, reshaping how businesses engage with their audiences. No longer a static broadcasting tool, digital signage has evolved into an intelligent, responsive medium that captivates, informs and influences in real-time.
This shift presents significant opportunities for AV professionals, including those operating in the light commercial sector. By embracing signage applications that leverage AI, they can unlock new levels of interactivity, personalisation and efficiency that enhance customer engagement and business outcomes.
This is being driven by neural processing units (NPUs) in digital signage players. This allows for AI-powered applications to operate seamlessly without compromising content playback quality. These advanced systems enable real-time content adjustments based on audience demographics, engagement levels and even environmental conditions.
For example, in restaurants, this could enable digital menus to adjust based on the preferences of customers, or a pub/bar where promotional content quickly changes
in response to crowd size and demographics. Ultimately, AI can create increasingly relevant and engaging experiences that drive customer satisfaction and business growth.
IMPROVING EXPERIENCES WITH AI AND DIGITAL SIGNAGE
AI is also revolutionising interactivity in digital signage. Inputs are gathered when users engage with digital displays. This engagement is then processed, and information is displayed in accordance with what has taken place in front of the signage application, demonstrating how AI algorithms and integrations can enhance content and how its delivered, for customers.
For example, in entertainment venues, interactive screens can provide information about upcoming events, promote special content and offers, or even facilitate interactive games. By understanding who is at the venue, the demographics of the audience, and which information they engage with and find most useful, AI can then deliver tailored content.
As the event goes on, and engagement changes, AI can process this information, and
different or new content can be displayed in near-real time. This level of personalisation in high-performance digital signage has the potential to significantly enhance customer experiences.
The ability to engage audiences in real time means the customer experience is no longer passive but deeply engaging. By enabling deeper, more meaningful interactions, signage applications that leverage AI turn viewers into active participants, fostering a connection and immersion that was previously unattainable with traditional digital signage.
INTEGRATION LEADS TO PERSONALISATION
Another critical advantage of AI in digital signage is its ability to deliver advanced analytics. Traditional digital signage has often relied on broad assumptions about audience engagement; AI changes the game by providing real-time insights into viewer behaviour. Businesses can see which content resonates most, measure dwell times, and analyse customer movement patterns – all of which inform smarter decision-making.

• Built-in Anthem Room Correction (ARC® Genesis) - optimises sound for each zone with built-in speaker profiles for Paradigm speakers
• Efficient and powerful Class-D amplification delivers reliable, high-fidelity audio across multiple zones.
• Supports 8 zones with independent DSP control.
• Compatible with all leading control systems.
AI can measure how systems are performing and adjust accordingly

This allows installers to offer data-driven solutions that demonstrate clear return on investment to their clients. Rather than simply selling a display and digital signage players, they can provide a powerful engagement tool backed by measurable performance metrics.
The integration of AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) enables signage to respond to real-world conditions that maximise relevance
and engagement. For example, IoT sensors can detect crowd density and trigger content changes accordingly. Similarly, AI-powered displays can adjust brightness, contrast, and messaging based on environmental factors such as time of day, temperature, or even local events, ensuring maximum visibility and impact.
For AV professionals, the benefits of AI-powered digital signage extend beyond
improved customer engagement. The automation capabilities that AI brings to content management can streamline operations, reducing the need for manual intervention. Scheduling, updates and even content creation can be optimised through AI, increasing efficiency for business owners and staff.
A PARADIGM-SHIFT FOR THE AV INDUSTRY
The potential of AI in digital signage will only continue to grow, as the industry realises the benefits of practical AI-enabled applications. The AV industry should approach AI with cautious optimism, but there’s no doubt it has been a catalyst for digital signage to evolve into a fully interactive, intelligent communication tool.
The convergence of AI and digital signage is a paradigm shift in how businesses connect with their audiences. Adopting AI-driven digital signage enables businesses to differentiate themselves by offering solutions that enhance both customer experiences and performance.
This evolution demands a forward-thinking approach from installers and integrators, who must embrace the capabilities that AI brings to digital signage. Those that leverage AI effectively will be best positioned to help their clients maximise engagement, drive revenue, whilst redefining interactivity, personalisation, and efficiency in digital signage.
For AV professionals, the time to harness AI’s full potential is now, as those who lead in this space will shape the next generation of digital engagement and set new standards for the industry.

PROJECTORS AND SCREENS

UltraNero4
SIM2’s record of innovation is almost as long-lived as home cinema itself, with every leap in picture quality seemingly framed by a breakthrough SIM2 projector. And now there’s another, every bit as game-changing as its predecessors…
PURE ENLIGHTENMENT
SIM2 addresses larger screens with 7,000 lumens from the new game-changing UltraNero4 projector, says CUK’s Stuart Thomson.

In home cinema there can be few companies as revered for their expertise and leadership as SIM2. Having passed its 30-year milestone in 2023, SIM2’s record of innovation is almost as long-lived as the industry itself, with every leap in picture quality seemingly framed by a breakthrough SIM2 projector. And now there’s another, every bit as game-changing as its predecessors.
Designed to meet the growing demand for brighter images on larger screens, the UltraNero4 delivers up to an extraordinary 7,000 lumens and represents a massive leap in brightness for the home cinema market. This remarkable performance comes from a new laser light source, which, allied to high-precision ceramic components, reengineered optics, and SIM2’s advanced HDR processing, ensures spectacular image clarity across the largest screens for the most immersive home cinema experiences, gaming setups and commercial applications.
THE SECRET IS CERAMICS
SIM2 innovation centres on the adoption of new ceramic components, which deliver exceptional results in terms of efficiency,
colorimetry, stability, lower noise and durability. The key breakthrough is the ceramic phosphor wheel, which dissipates heat more efficiently, allowing the phosphors to work at a much lower temperature than can be achieved in a conventional projector. This means that SIM2 engineers can hit the phosphors with a more powerful laser, producing a much higher emission of light and colour for higher brightness. What’s more, when operating at a lower temperature, the phosphors provide enhanced and more stable colorimetry over a much longer life.
Of course, the application of ceramics is more complex than is usual, and the production cost more than 10 times higher, but the benefits in terms of image quality, stability and reliability are worth it.
AND ENHANCED OPTICS
Then there’s the superior optical contrast from a proprietary and precision-engineered lens system, which maintains exceptional detail and depth in both light and dark scenes for an impressive 95% consistency even on the widest of canvasses to ensure breathtaking realism in every frame.
BRIGHTER, LIGHTER PROJECTION FOR SINGLE-PERSON INSTALL
And when it comes to practical considerations, the UltraNero4 is once again peerless. System designers get SIM2’s outstanding HDR processing, superior image quality and consistency, and an unprecedented 7,000 lumen output in a projector that measures just 485 x 180 x 430mm and weighs a mere 14kg (a fraction of the figure associated with projectors getting anywhere near its performance), making it easy for a single installer to lift into place.
SILENT TOO
Industry design guidelines such as RP22 (of which CUK Group is both a supporter and event sponsor) suggest removing the projector from the room to cut noise, but this isn’t always practical. At less than 30dB, the UltraNero4 is super-quiet, allowing it to be positioned close to viewers without the usual noise distractions.
In addition, the UltraNero4 deploys SIM2’s “Perfect Fit” technology for an easy switch between 16:9 and 2.35:1 formats. Connectivity is via 2 x HDMI and 1 x HD Base-T with control system integration via LAN, RS-232, or IR.
BRILLIANCE FOR ALL
Retailing for an astounding £22,999.00 inc, the phenomenal UltraNero4 joins the beautifully elegant crystal-glass ‘Crystal 4 SH’ 4K UHD projector, featuring a laser-hybrid light source with 3,600lm at £14,999.00 inc, and the super-compact, sub-£10k crystalglass ‘Domino 4H’ (3,000lm hybrid laser) in the SIM 2 range. All models deliver the brand’s proprietary and class-leading HDR processing, brightness, contrast, and colour accuracy in a style that SIM2 has made its own. Having punched way above its weight technically and aesthetically for over three decades, and now breaking through again with the UltraNero4, SIM2 is challenging market leaders with a range developed for the luxury market but priced to reach so many more spaces and budgets.

PROJECTED BRILLIANCE: THE FUTURE OF BIG SCREEN TECHNOLOGY
James Drummie,
Product
Manager at distributor AWE, presents an overview of the evolving world of projectors and screens.

The world of projection technology and screen materials is evolving rapidly, bringing a new level of excitement to the big screen experience. As installers navigate these advancements, it is important to understand the key factors that can make or break a system’s performance in different environments.
PROJECTION TECHNOLOGY
Technological advancements in projection have significantly enhanced image quality and installation flexibility. Leading the charge are the new Sony projectors, which boast native 4K resolution and exceptional processing power. These projectors are hailed as some of the best home cinema projectors ever made, offering unparalleled clarity and detail.
Take the Sony Bravia 9 Native 4K SXRD with XR Processor. This home cinema projector draws on cutting-edge picture processing technologies and 3400 lumens of brightness for superb clarity and realness. Additionally, the combination of high brightness and HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology enhances
the overall viewing experience, providing a 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut without the need for filters for vivid colours and better contrast.
Another noteworthy development is the Epson Q Series, which introduces a body-only design with separate lenses. This innovation allows for a wide range of throw distances, from ultra-short to extremely long, making it possible to achieve the perfect image size in any space. This flexibility is particularly advantageous for unusual spaces where traditional projectors might struggle.
The Epson QL 7000, with its 10,000 lumens, and the QL 3000, with 6,000 lumens, offer incredibly high brightness levels for home cinema projectors. This ensures that the image remains clear and vibrant on even the largest home cinema screens, even with some ambient light.
SCREEN MATERIALS
While projectors play a crucial role, the screen material is equally important in delivering a premium viewing experience. The latest screen

fabrics by Adeo, such as Reference White 2 and Reference Grey 2, offer consistent colour and brightness across the entire surface. Fixed frame or permanently tensioned screens ensure that the fabric remains perfectly flat, providing the best possible image quality.
For environments with bright walls or some ambient light, grey fabrics can enhance contrast by starting with a darker base colour. This approach shifts the perceived contrast, making the image appear more vibrant and detailed. Ambient light rejecting (ALR) screens, such as Adeo Ambient Grey 2, take this a step further by reflecting projector light while rejecting side light, ensuring a clear and bright image even in well-lit rooms. When specifying projectors and screens, installers should consider several factors.
ROOM SIZE AND LAYOUT
The flexibility of modern projectors, such as the Epson Q Series, allows for installation in both small and large rooms. Whether the projector needs to be placed close to the screen or far away, the right lens can accommodate any throw distance.
LIGHTING CONDITIONS
The choice of screen material should be based on the room’s lighting. In dark rooms, reference white screens provide the best image quality and widest viewing angles. In rooms with some ambient light, reference grey screens offer better contrast. For rooms with significant ambient light, ALR screens are the ideal choice.
Multi-Screen Capabilities: In some scenarios, for example, if your client is a sports or gaming fan, the ability to display multiple feeds on a single screen can be a game-changer. With brighter projectors producing larger images, the correct external hardware allows multiple inputs on the same screen, providing a seamless multiscreen experience.
ACOUSTIC TRANSPARENCY
For home cinemas, placing speakers behind the screen can enhance the audio experience. Micro-perforated or acoustic screens allow sound to pass through without compromising image quality, making them a valuable addition to any setup.

IMMERSIVE SPACES: PROJECTION OR REJECTION?
Paul Wilson, Video Projection Business Manager, Epson UK, explains why projectors remain the best tech for creating immersive spaces in any location.
From theatre productions and interactive museums to high-end retail displays and corporate environments, businesses and creatives are looking for innovative ways to surround audiences with compelling visuals. In short, immersive experiences are no longer a novelty – they are an expectation.
For years, projection technology has been the go-to solution for large-scale, immersive installations. However, the popularity of LED walls and large-format displays has led some to question whether projection still has a place in modern immersive experiences. With LED offering high brightness and modular scalability, is projection becoming obsolete? No. In fact, the reality is quite the opposite.
Recent advancements in projection technology – from higher resolutions and seamless multi-projector setups to ultra-shortthrow lenses and automation – have cemented its position as the most versatile, impactful and cost-effective tool for immersive AV. While LED walls have some advantages, projection remains unmatched in its ability to transform any space into an immersive experience – and here’s why.
WHY PROJECTION STILL WINS IN IMMERSIVE AV
One of the defining advantages of projection is its ability to scale without limitations. Unlike LED panels, which require physical modules, projection can expand to cover any size or shape, from a single wall to an entire 360-degree dome. This flexibility allows designers and AV professionals to create vast, immersive environments without the constraints of fixed screen sizes and aspect ratios, or bezels disrupting the visuals.
Another important factor to consider is adaptability. Projection isn’t confined to flat
surfaces – it can map onto ceilings, floors, curved structures and even transparent or reflective materials like glass and water. This is why it continues to dominate in applications where creative freedom is essential.
One of the most striking examples of this can be found in the Life of Pi theatre production, where 4K projection was used to create an entire oceanic world on stage. Instead of relying entirely on physical sets or static LED backdrops, high-brightness projectors transformed the stage in real time, shifting between calm waters, raging storms and dynamic skies.
The projection even extended beyond the stage, engulfing the audience in light and movement, making them feel as if they were truly adrift at sea.
Similarly, the Cosmos digital installation within Michael Craig-Martin’s recent exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts took full advantage of projection’s seamless scalability and adaptability. The installation used 360-degree projection mapping to surround visitors with an animation of 364 objects drawn by the artist throughout his career, all set to an intriguing soundtrack – pairing the worlds of audio and visual for maximum impact.
THE TECH BEHIND THE IMMERSION
Modern projection has come a long way from the tools of the past. It’s common for today’s systems to feature Full HD or 4K resolution, with projectors offering crisper detail, deeper contrast and richer colours than ever before.
Laser projection and 3LCD technology allows for even better brightness and colour accuracy, meaning that projected images can be just as vivid as an LED display in many circumstances.

But perhaps the biggest leap forward has been in multi-projector setups. In large-scale installations, multiple projectors are often required to cover a massive space. Previously, this meant painstaking manual calibration, but recent innovations have automated the process, making setup faster and results more precise.
Features like auto stacking allow projectors to be perfectly aligned to double or triple brightness, while auto blending ensures a seamless image across multiple projectors. Plus, geometric correction tools allow projection onto irregular or curved surfaces.
These advancements are not just theoretical – they are already transforming real-world applications. Nowhere is this more evident than at Swansea University’s Simulation and Immersive Learning Centre (SUSIM).
SUSIM is the largest immersive medical simulation facility in the world, and its design required a technology capable of creating realistic, floor-to-ceiling training environments. Rather than using LED panels, the university opted for high brightness projectors with unique ultra-short-throw lenses, allowing rooms to be instantly transformed into operating theatres, emergency response scenarios, or even courtroom simulations thanks to an array of situation-based content.
When comparing projectors to LED, it’s also important to discuss the issue of mobility and adaptability. LED walls are fixed installations, which makes them ideal for permanent set-ups but far less practical for temporary or mobile environments. Projectors, by contrast, can be deployed quickly and adjusted on-site, making them the superior choice for events, theatre productions and pop-up experiences.
Perhaps most crucially, LED walls have fixed pixel density, meaning resolution is limited by the physical size of each panel. Projection, however, can be scaled infinitely without sacrificing sharpness, making it a truly compelling choice for large-scale immersive visuals.
PROJECTION IS HERE TO STAY
While LED technology has found a foothold in fixed-location digital displays, it’s fair to say that projection remains the most versatile, scalable, and cost-effective choice for immersive AV.
As the AV industry evolves, one thing is clear: projection isn’t just keeping up – it’s leading the charge as it continues to push boundaries, proving that immersion has no limits when you remove the physical constraints of a screen.
THE FUTURE OF HOME CINEMA
In the rapidly evolving world of home cinema, keeping pace with the latest trends and innovations is essential for delivering an unparalleled viewing experience. Barry Sheldrick, Director of Sales at DbM and Andy Jones, Sales Engineer at Barco Residential, discuss the latest advancements in projectors and screens that are set to redefine home entertainment systems.
Despite the rise of large-format TVs and new display technologies, projectors and screens remain the gold standard for creating a truly immersive home cinema experience. Favouring a projector and screen combination creates harmony between audio and video, a synergy vital for drawing viewers deeper into the story, with dialogue appearing to emanate directly from the characters’ on-screen positions.
In multipurpose media rooms, where homeowners seek sleek designs and minimal visible technology, motorised screens that retract into the ceiling offer a seamless solution. Advances in screen technology, particularly ambient light rejection (ALR) screens, allow users to enjoy vibrant, high-definition images even in rooms with ambient light. ALR screens have been a game changer, ensuring that viewers can experience rich contrast and brightness regardless of the time of day or room lighting.
SETTING NEW STANDARDS
One of the most revolutionary developments in projection technology is the integration of laser light sources. Modern laser projectors can reach brightness levels up to 32,000 lumens,
enhancing contrast, expanding the colour gamut and improving overall resolution. Barco’s cutting-edge laser systems deliver spectacular visuals while boasting extended service life, energy efficiency, and reduced maintenance compared to traditional lamp-based models.
High-quality pixel processing and elevated frame rates are crucial in today’s multimedia landscape, especially with the rising popularity of gaming. Gamers demand zero lag, which is where Barco’s low-latency projectors ensure instantaneous response times without sacrificing image quality, providing a seamless gaming experience alongside stunning movie and sports broadcasts.
THE UNIQUE ADVANTAGE OF CINEMASCOPE
Barco Residential projectors are typically available in two formats: 4K UHD or Cinemascope. Barco’s uses its exceptional image processing to upscale content to Cinemascope format, ensuring all pixels are utilised for displaying content. This increases the output resolution, thus enhancing clarity and maximising light output.

Barco’s ability to detect the content’s aspect ratio is particularly beneficial for those who frequently switch between different content formats, as the projector will autonomously switch output modes to display content correctly, without the need for external processing, lens profiles, or additional optics.
THE TREND TOWARDS BIGGER AND BETTER
Consumers’ appetite for larger screens shows no sign of slowing down. An industry-wide shift towards expansive displays offers heightened realism and immersion. Four-metre-wide screens are quickly becoming the standard in luxury home cinemas. However, scaling up the screen size presents unique challenges. To maintain image integrity on larger screens, projectors need significantly higher light output. Modern advancements enable High Dynamic Range (HDR), vibrant colours and dynamic contrast that mirror real-life visuals.
Performance isn’t just about visuals - sound and operational noise play equally crucial roles. Barco’s projectors excel in both areas, providing low latency without trade-offs, so there’s no need to disable features to achieve faster response times. Users get peak performance across all functions.
Additionally, noise reduction has been a key focus in Barco’s latest models. Even when you pay close attention, you’ll barely hear the projector running. This quiet operation is invaluable in living rooms and compact theatres where background noise can be distracting.
The future of home cinema is brighter than ever before. With continuous innovations in projector brightness, screen technologies and user-centric features, the gap between professional cinema and home entertainment is narrowing rapidly. The goal is to ensure that viewers get a cinematic experience right in their own homes, with no compromises. With advancements like these, that dream is now a reality.

BEING HUMAN
What are the benefits of implementing human-centric lighting and what can we expect from this technology over the coming year? Paul Jones, Sales Director UK & Ireland, global lighting controls manufacturer, B.E.G. UK, provides some insight.

The benefits of implementing Human Centric Lighting (HCL) into the market are wide and varied depending on how and why they are used in buildings.
Human Centric Lighting has been proven to help synchronise the body’s internal clock with natural daylight, leading to better sleep quality and overall well-being. By adjusting light intensity and colour temperature throughout the day in offices or classrooms for examplesuch as a cooler light in the morning to promote alertness and warmer light in the evening for relaxation - supports healthier sleep patterns.
Light has a significant impact on mood, so HCL is also good for mood regulation. Exposure to bright, blue-enriched light during the day has been shown to reduce feelings of fatigue, increase focus and enhance productivity. Conversely, dimming lights with a warm hue at night can promote a sense of relaxation and help wind down before sleep.
By providing light that mimics daylight, especially in workplaces, schools, and healthcare settings, HCL has been shown to boost concentration, reduce errors and improve performance, particularly in environments
where people need to stay alert or work long hours.
In educational settings, HCL can help students focus better and improve memory retention by aligning light with their natural biological rhythms. Similar benefits are seen in office environments, where proper lighting enhances focus and decision-making.
There are also health benefits associated with HCL. Traditional artificial lighting can lead to eye strain, headaches and discomfort, particularly in high-stress environments. HCL’s dynamic light can reduce the negative effects of glare and constant exposure to harsh lighting.
In workplaces or home environments, the right lighting can promote relaxation, reduce stress and alleviate symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is linked to reduced exposure to natural light in winter months.
Many HCL systems are integrated with smart controls, such as what we offer at B.E.G., that adjust the lighting automatically based on time of day or occupancy. This can lead to energy savings by reducing unnecessary lighting and adjusting brightness and temperature based on need.
New lightning concepts look to tap into our connection and fascination with natural light
Mimicking nature in artificial light has many health benefits
Energy-efficient lighting solutions like LEDs, which are often used in HCL systems, consume less power, which in turn also reduces the environmental footprint.
The technology behind HCL has been evolving rapidly, and there will be continued advancements in the coming years. The next iteration of HCL systems will likely feature more advanced integration with smart home ecosystems, enabling users to customise lighting settings through voice assistants, smartphones, or automated schedules. These systems will not only adapt to the time of day but could also factor in user preferences, activities, or health data.
As AI and machine learning evolve, HCL systems will become more adaptive and personalised. These systems may learn user behaviour, adapting light colour and intensity not just according to time, but also based on factors like productivity levels, room occupancy, and even health metrics like sleep patterns and stress levels.
HCL could integrate with wearable devices (like fitness trackers) to assess how users are feeling and adjust lighting accordingly for optimal performance or relaxation.
Healthcare is another key area where HCL will make significant strides. For example, in hospitals, HCL could improve patient recovery rates by providing optimal lighting for rest and healing. In care homes, it can help elderly individuals with cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, by supporting better sleep and orientation.
More businesses will adopt HCL in offices, especially with the growing recognition of the impact of the workplace environment on employee well-being. Expect to see more

corporate spaces incorporating dynamic lighting that adapts throughout the day to improve mood, reduce stress and enhance cognitive function.
HCL may begin to incorporate more biometric feedback, potentially using sensors to monitor individual responses to lighting, such as changes in heart rate, skin temperature, or even facial expressions. Over time, this data will be
used to refine lighting systems, making them even more responsive to an individual’s needs.
As environmental consciousness grows, expect more HCL systems to use sustainable materials and more energy-efficient technologies. We might see solar-powered lighting options, biodegradable components, and lighting systems that adapt to both energy needs and the environment.

The eyes are a direct link to the human brain via the retina, in fact, technically the retina is part of the brain, not the eye!

Motion sensors can trigger soft lighting, guiding them through the home while maintaining a calm, sleep-friendly environment.

For families, LUXORliving offers seamless scene control, where one tap or voice command can set the mood for a movie night, wind the home down for bedtime or create an energising morning routine. The system can also integrate heating and blinds, making wellness-focused home automation easier and more affordable than ever before. For installers, LUXORliving opens the door to a rapidly growing market – from luxury homes to mid-range residential projects, where homeowners want more than just smart control. They want a home that truly works for them.
HARNESSING LIGHT FOR FOCUS AND WELLBEING
In Didam, a town in the Netherlands, the Albert Schweitzer School was looking for a lighting upgrade that would improve student concentration and wellbeing. Like many schools, it had relied on static fluorescent lighting that did little to support focus or energy levels throughout the day. The management team understood that light plays a vital role in how students learn, engage and feel, so they sought a dynamic lighting system that could mirror natural daylight cycles.
Their solution? A Human Centric Lighting system powered by Theben’s DALI-2 Room Solution. By using pre-programmed light curves that mimic the sun’s natural rhythm, the school was able to create a lighting environment that changes throughout the day – cool and energising in the morning, bright and crisp at midday and softer, warmer light towards the afternoon. They chose Theben’s DALI-2 occupancy sensors and pushbutton interfaces for their flexibility and ease of integration.
The result was a school environment that actively supports learning. Students reported feeling more alert and focused in the mornings while teachers noticed a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere in the afternoons. With lighting adapting dynamically based on occupancy and time of day, the system also optimised energy efficiency, reducing unnecessary consumption while maintaining the perfect lighting conditions.
For integrators, this project highlights the power of Theben’s DALI-2 Room Solution in creating smarter, more responsive spaces. Whether in schools, offices or care homes, it offers a straightforward way to implement advanced HCL concepts, ensuring spaces are not just well-lit but truly human-focused.
WHY HCL IS THE NEXT BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR INTEGRATORS
Human Centric Lighting is more than just a trend – it’s the future of smart homes. As wellness, accessibility and intuitive living become key priorities for homeowners, lighting control will play a central role in shaping healthier, more comfortable spaces.
For AV and automation integrators, Theben’s solutions offer a clear path to delivering these benefits – whether through DALI-2’s advanced HCL capabilities or LUXORliving’s intuitive, affordable automation. Now is the time to embrace HCL.

Close control of lighting for wellness will become the norm

THE IMPORTANCE OF AGILE POWER
Justin Peyton, Sales Director EMEA & APAC, argues for the importance of sophisticated power management for residential and commercial projects.
We have built our reputation on providing robust surge protection solutions, safeguarding critical systems against the unpredictable nature of power disturbances. Over time, this focus has expanded to include intelligent, user-friendly tools that address the needs of a connected world. We’ve shifted from just protecting to also connecting, giving integrators smarter ways to manage and optimise their systems remotely. Our focus is also ensuring seamless smart remote management of devices.

GET YOURSELF CONNECTED
Central to SurgeX’s appeal is the SurgeX CONNECT platform, a free cloud-based interface now standard on our networked devices. At its core, SurgeX CONNECT offers a centralised dashboard for remote monitoring and management for a fleet of compatible devices. From this user-friendly interface, users can perform essential tasks such as rebooting individual devices, monitoring system health and identifying potential issues before they escalate. Everything is nice and simple and at your fingertips. Integrators can manage up to 10,000 devices from a single dashboard, avoiding costly site visits for minor issues like restarting a device. It’s fully scalable and integrators can easily find what they need on the dashboard. This approach saves time and money while enhancing the end-user experience. Additionally, individual outlets can be named, tagged and grouped for easy identification and management.
The Complexity Conundrum Today’s residential projects are no longer confined to simple setups. As homeowners embrace
smart technology, AV systems and advanced automation the demand for seamless integration and reliable power management has increased. Home cinema, security systems, networking, multiple large displays and multizone audio setups throughout the home are just a few examples of high-powered considerations. The reality is that residential projects have become just as complex as many commercial installations. With that complexity comes the need for robust solutions to keep everything running smoothly.
THE NETWORKED BENEFIT
Key features of the SurgeX CONNECT platform include sequencing, which allows devices to power on or off in a specific order to protect interdependent components such as AV racks, reducing the risk of damage or misconfiguration. This tackles notorious in-rush current issues—a critical challenge in home cinema setups, with power-hungry amplifiers and media devices often creating issues. Realtime remote monitoring and alert capabilities also keep integrators informed about system health by sending immediate alerts, enabling proactive responses before users are affected.

SurgeX CONNECT also provides detailed analytics to track system performance over time. This data helps integrators optimise energy use, schedule maintenance effectively and ensure peak functionality. Automation features like scheduling and AutoPing further simplify management by handling routine tasks such as power cycling and responding to unresponsive equipment automatically. It’s about removing manual effort where possible. The system takes care of itself so that the integrator can focus on bigger-picture priorities.
The platform also excels in flexibility, able to be managed via browser, through the cloud using mobile or desktop and by integration with major control systems such as Crestron, AMX or Savant. This multi-access approach ensures that integrators can resolve issues quickly, even when off-site.

A LEADING LIGHT AT LUTRON

Kiana Pourrahimi, Sales Director, Lutron EA, provides an insight into her career with Lutron and the solutions now available from the lighting and shading specialist.
Tell us about your role at the company. What are your main duties?
I look after Lutron’s residential business for the UK. I’m responsible for sales but work closely with our business unit, product management and marketing. I want to make sure that if Lutron is investing in new products, whether it’s hardware or software, it’s always relevant to market needs in the UK. I’m responsible for bringing the product to market and sales, and ultimately, I’m always thinking about the enduser experience. To me, having an amazing system is one thing, but knowing that the homeowner loves using it and is happy with it is the most important. So, a lot of the decisions I make are around, ‘How does this work for the homeowner, and does it represent the channel and Lutron the right way to that market?’
Tell us a little about your career before joining Lutron?
Before joining Lutron, I had over 10 years of experience in the electrical industry, working for market-leading brands selling anything from low-voltage electrical equipment to wiring accessories into electrical wholesalers, targeting tier-one and tier-two electrical contractors.
Whilst this gave me a really good understanding of the electrical portion of construction, I didn’t understand luxury. The market we sell into at Lutron is much more about the end-user experience as opposed to the product being a commodity
You joined Lutron in 2016. What changes have you seen during this time?
I’ve seen a huge evolution at Lutron since joining. We were seen as a manufacturer that supplied hardware into a dealer channel that then took care of everything for us. We had the ambition to grow rapidly but also sustainably, and this needed a new approach. Creating demand for our product was the way to do this. We realised that we not only needed to speak
to more decision-makers on projects but also identify product gaps. We needed to ensure that as a manufacturer, we were able to fill those gaps to bring Lutron lighting and our systems to more people.
We also needed to make sure that as we were developing products, we were considering the product lifecycle to ensure that when these investments are made, they are built to last. We need to continue to deliver high-quality products to the customer.

Realising this is one thing. Building a strategy is another. And then executing it takes time. If we look at where we are today, we’ve set out what we wanted to achieve, and we have grown significantly year on year since 2016. We’ve implemented processes, programmes and strategies that help create growth within our channel in a sustainable way. We’ve also become the brand of choice with luxury designers and continue to collaborate with designers to ensure that as trends move in luxury, we continue to be a leading manufacturer of not just technical products but aesthetics too.
RadioRA 3 has launched. Can you tell us about the genesis of this platform?
RA3 is the most exciting thing I’ve been involved in during my time at Lutron. I watch our systems day in and day out being specified for the most exquisite luxury homes. But something that always bothered me was all of the other existing buildings that just couldn’t justify a full rewire to have a system like ours.
Working really closely with our business unit to make sure something was developed that would meet the requirements and needs of end users in the UK was critical. In total, it was probably a three-year conversation of research, development, redevelopment and redesign. Because when Lutron brings a product to market, it has to be of the highest quality. A lot goes into making that happen.
The most exciting thing about RadioRA 3 is that it gives you a streamlined version of all of the clever features that are in HomeWorks. It’s a robust, tried-and-tested RF system that eliminates the need to rewire your home, opening up thousands of homes for end users to have the features and benefits that a system can give them, but on a streamlined, more costeffective version.

Vierti was another major launch alongside RadioRA 3. Tell us about this range?
A picture speaks a thousand words. I don’t need to tell you how beautiful it is! Every part of this keypad was designed to please a discerning customer. We knew the look of the keypad was more important than anything else—it’s the one part of the system that the homeowner gets to see. So this was critical; a homeowner needs to want it on their wall.
We’ve always sold a retrofit solution of a Pico and a faceplate, but we knew it wasn’t hitting the mark of the design aesthetic of the home. It needed to be made of authentic brass, to be made of the same finish as our signature metals that are successful with Alisse and to be flat on the wall. When you press your finger against the faceplate, it needed to feel like luxury. We also wanted to ensure consistency and continuity in how our buttons were engraved. The end-user experience was always at the forefront of our minds.
Lumaris RGB + tunable white tape light represents a first for the company. Tell us a little more?
Lutron in the US introduced the intelligent light source a few years back, so this is something that the company globally has been working on for some time. But whilst we’ve known about it, Lumaris is our first introduction to intelligent lighting in the UK.
But what does this mean? It’s a fully tunable white LED tape and also has colour, but what makes this special is the part where it’s intelligent. Like other things Lutron makes, the Lumaris system was developed to natively work in our systems. This means we developed everything from the start to make sure that when our systems get put together, they work intelligently with no risk of things going wrong.
All three new products were launched at a major London event. Can you tell us how it went?
When we were building the sales strategy, we wanted to make sure from the start that we also worked on a communication plan. We launched some major products during COVID, and trying to get a new system in front of a lot of people usually ends up being at a trade show. We were adamant we didn’t want this at a trade show. We felt that it was such an exciting, market-expanding new system that it deserved its own platform.
The event was hugely successful and unlike anything that Lutron had done before in our region. But the hard work is always afterwards— the training and follow-ups come now. However, being able to reach a wide audience in person and see them as excited about something as we were made it all worthwhile.

Vierti keypads are designed to be as beautiful as they are intelligent
The company exhibited at ISE 2025. How did the show go?
ISE came straight off the back of the RA3 launch. We didn’t just stop there. We managed to keep Aviena a secret, (new toggle switch option) and it was shown for the first time globally on our stand at ISE.
The stand was all about the experience of how natural and artificial light are lived with, and how they can impact us. The way the story was told, and the way we gave the experience, rightfully won us the award of best large stand at the show. If you didn’t experience it, you missed out!
What has been the reaction and impact of this trio of launches?
RadioRA3 is a new system. Vierti is a mainspowered keypad that has a version in the RA3 platform as well as HomeWorks. Lumaris is a new category. And Aviena is a final puzzle piece of what we needed in HomeWorks. We’ve never had as much new product in one go as we have this year. It’s super exciting and we’re working to make sure our integrators understand that their toolbox has grown and that they now have a much wider range of components to please different consumers in different homes and applications. We’re using training, product specialists, and sales to arm our dealers not just with the products, but the support and knowledge they need to grow their business with Lutron. We’ve already trained hundreds of dealers, with future dates out till June getting booked up as we speak.
If an integrator is not making Lutron a part of their offering, what would you say these new releases offer to increase appeal?
Our HomeWorks business is the most mature in the UK and a leading brand in the ultra-high net worth home. And we had RA2 Select as more of an entry-level system. We didn’t have something

that met the needs of anything retrofit or slightly more cost-effective, but offering the same aesthetic and desirability of HomeWorks.
As we mentioned previously, LED tape is not new, everyone has some in their home, but the quality and the pain is felt by most, so offering that to more dealers in an easy way is attractive.
The desirability of having these products is higher in more homes and now it’s easier to have a streamlined system. People also might not renovate the entire home in one go. You can start with a small system in your home, and build on it. For example, you might just want the lounge done to start and then to add your bedrooms later. This gives the integrator the opportunity to start small and expand over time with not just lighting and lighting control, but window treatments as well.
What is next for Lutron?
We have lots of training dates. We are planning to host sales webinars, sales training, networking events where we bring dealers closer to designers – 1:1 support on the sales team on business development and so on.
We’re trying to communicate on different platforms and in different ways because we respect people’s time. Between webinars and in-person events, there will always be technical salespeople that can help dealers – whether it’s on business development calls or to ensure that they are designing the best systems they can with the tools that they’ve got.

A STRONG HOME CINEMA CONCEPT

AVA Concept took on and delivered this challenging smart home project, which included a high-performance home cinema.
Marcin Kulas, founder and director of AVA Concept, explains that the project’s beginnings were very challenging. “Back in 2016, we took on a smart home installation in Hammersmith, London, delivering a full-scale automation and AV solution for an entire house. The project was built around Lutron lighting, a Control4 system and a multi-room audio system featuring 15 zones of ceiling speakers and an outdoor audio
zone. The entertainment setup included a 4K HDMI matrix switch distributing content to eight 4K TVs, each controlled via Control4 remotes.”
Marcin adds, “Beyond entertainment, we implemented an internet network, CCTV security system and a comprehensive intruder alarm for full security coverage. In addition to this project, we created a dedicated home cinema fitted with Sonance speakers and an
Anthem AVR, creating an immersive movie experience. However, just a day before the scheduled handover, disaster struck—the client’s basement, where all the AV equipment was installed, was flooded. The entire rack cabinet with all equipment had to be replaced.”
Fast forward to 2022, following yet another flood, the client this time saw it as an opportunity rather than a setback.

Marcin reveals, “Instead of just replacing the damaged components, he decided to take his home entertainment experience to the next level. With an increased budget and a vision for an upgraded home cinema, the team worked closely with the client to design and implement a cutting-edge audio visual system that not only restored but far exceeded the original setup. What started as an unfortunate and highly unusual series of events turned into an opportunity to create something exceptional.”
Marcin further explains, “We had a great relationship with the client and since he was very technical, it made it easier to guide him through the project. The process began with project
design and drawing up the exact positioning of the speakers, screen and seats. Initially, we planned to install fabrics around the room, but instead, we suggested reallocating the budget towards acoustic treatment using Vicoustic. I also arranged a meeting at the Pulse Cinemas showroom, where they gave an excellent presentation and guided the client through the entire cinema experience, which really excited him about the project.”
Marcin explains, “The acoustic treatment design was based on our drawings and created by Vicoustic. The client and our team were very impressed with what Vicoustic came up with.”

All the components were chosen to deliver an upgrade in performance to the previous cinema
CINEMA DETAIL AND BUILD
False walls were made of two sheets of plywood with a layer of soundproofing rubber sheets for acoustic insulation in between, providing a solid basis for the project. Another of the early tasks was to install the lighting fixtures, which were also integrated into the home’s Control4 system. All the Triad speakers were installed and positioned early on as well.
The speaker array consists of Triad InWall Silver/6 LCR (x3), chosen for their sound quality and compatibility with the room size. Triad InWall Silver/4 Surround (x2) speakers were selected for surround sound, and Triad InWall Silver/4 Sat (x2) were installed as additional satellite speakers for a balanced sound setup. Triad InCeiling Silver OpenRound (x4) were installed for immersive sound throughout the room. Finally, powerful Earthquake Sound MKVII15PIANO-SV-W 15in powered subwoofers (x2) were included. Marcin has been a fan of Earthquake subs for years and was excited to use them in this project, delivering deep bass and high performance.
The next phase involved the installation of the JVC projector, Projecta screen and seating. The client previously had a JVC projector, so the team upgraded to a higher-spec model for better features and performance with the DLA-NZ7. The Projecta is a fixed-frame screen, 128in model, chosen for its 4K UHD and HDR compatibility. Marcin says, “We’ve had great results with this screen in previous projects, so we recommended it for its quality.”

madVR processing was also included in the setup, as Marcin explains, “After debating between madVR and Lumagen, the client chose madVR despite initial hesitation about the price. We convinced him by sharing videos and discussing the advantages of this high-end processor.”
Also involved in the processing was an Anthem MRX 1140 8K AV receiver. The team selected this product due to its premium AV performance and its compatibility with the room size and speakers. Control of the system is enhanced by the inclusion of a Control4 Halo remote control. Control4 dealers for 15 years, the team had no hesitation in recommending this option for control. At the end of the installation process, the projector and Anthem AV receiver were calibrated for optimal performance.
Marcin says, “The installation went smoothly, with no issues, as everything was executed according to our and Vicoustic’s design plans. We also had support for display and calibration, which helped ensure everything was set up perfectly.
“We recommended Vicoustic panels to enhance both the sound and the room’s interior, which really impressed the client. Additionally, the Earthquake subwoofers provided incredible deep bass and madVR ensured the picture was displayed in full, maximising the screen’s potential. These were our favourite aspects of the project.”

FULL STREAM AHEAD FROM ATONEMO

Atonemo is looking to redefine how audio is experienced, starting with the launch of its debut product— The Streamplayer. This pocket-sized device instantly upgrades any speaker, amplifier, or system—regardless of brand, age, or inputs—into a smart, wireless, multiroom audio system. The Streamplayer will retail for £99.00 / $99 / €99.00, with shipments expected to begin this Spring.
A NEW VIEW FROM RITHUM
Rithum has expanded its smart home capabilities with a new video intercom solution for Rithum Switch Pro. It combines audio intercom and video streaming features to deliver a seamless, fully integrated smart home communication system.
As part of this launch, Rithum is introducing the audio intercom feature, now included as standard with Rithum Switch Pro. This new functionality allows users to accept P2P SIP calls with bidirectional audio from any compatible door intercom, enabling real-time communication at the touch of a button.
Shortly following this, Rithum will introduce the video streaming plugin, enabling RTSP h.264/h.265 video streaming, further enhancing the intercom capabilities. The combined video intercom solution supports SIP, RTSP, and other industry standards, ensuring broad compatibility with numerous intercom systems. Notably, the RTSP video stream can originate from an external CCTV camera rather than the intercom itself, making it flexible for a variety of setups. These features have already been successfully tested with leading intercom brands such as 2N and Doorbird.
Why Atonemo? Speaker brands are masters of sound and design, but they’re not tech companies, argues Atonemo. Many struggle with streaming technology, forcing users into closed ecosystems or outdated connectivity. Atonemo believes speakers should be chosen for their sound, not their software.
With ‘The Streamplayer’, any speaker (or device with analogue or digital input) can support the latest streaming services,
multiroom audio and smart home integration— without extra clutter or forced subscriptions.
Whether the subject is a vintage Hi-Fi system, high-end passive speakers, or a Bluetooth speaker, the Streamplayer breathes new life into any existing audio setup, ensuring it stays future-proof without costly upgrades.
The Streamplayer is engineered to provide an effortless, high-quality audio experience. It supports streaming from Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL and YouTube Music with native integration via AirPlay 2 and Google Cast for iOS and Android users. With WiFi 6, BLE, and LE Audio Auracast capabilities, it ensures smooth and reliable multiroom streaming, says the maker.
While Atonemo offers a dedicated app, its role is intentionally minimal—limited to setup, grouping and equaliser adjustments. There are no unnecessary distractions, reskinned streaming services, or clutter. The focus is on an intuitive, seamless experience that just works.
Interested parties can get early access by registering interest at atonemo.com. As part of its expansion plans, Atonemo has appointed Apex Audio Group to lead strategic sales initiatives in key markets, including the United Kingdom and beyond.

The Video Intercom solution enhances the versatility of Rithum Switch Pro by enabling it to function as a complete intercom panel, adding another layer of convenience and security to smart homes and professional installations. Any door intercom that supports P2P SIP calling can now connect directly to Rithum Switch Pro, allowing users to communicate with visitors efficiently from their wall-mounted touchscreen controller.
This launch builds on Rithum’s recent (and requested) integrations with the Loxone and Control4 smart home ecosystems. These
integrations provide both scene-based and level-based control, alongside advanced automation features.
Rithum’s software thermostat feature Rithum Stat can now be used as a thermostat within Control4, while in Loxone, Rithum Switch Pro can feed temperature sensor data into Loxone’s Smart Room Controller, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort.

It is the perfect complement to the Mini, Pro and Ultra streaming products, as it allows users to combine streaming technology with WiiM’s most powerful and complete amplifier solution yet.
The Vibelink Amp is the ideal solution for existing WiiM streamer owners, offering powerful output and a high-quality sound. It’s also an ideal cosmetic match for the WiiM Ultra.
Boasting 100W per-channel into 8Ω speakers (200W @ 4Ω), this two-channel Class-D integrated amplifier is designed to provide room-filling sound, capable of handling complex soundscapes and details without distortion.
Featuring a premium built-in ESS ES9038Q2M DAC, the Vibelink Amp reportedly ensures the highest fidelity from digital sources, supporting variable sample rates and bit depths for optimal sound. It also handles analogue inputs, offering a versatile solution. All built around the TI TPA3255 Amp Chip, the resulting clean, rich sound is optimised to bring out the nuances of every note.
Having both analogue (RCA) and digital (Optical, Coaxial) inputs allow users to connect with a range of audio sources.
Specially designed with copper heat pipes, a large aluminium heatsink, and a heat-spreading case to reduce hot spots and manage internally generated heat, the Vibelink Amp features PIDbased thermal management software to ensure optimal temperature regulation.
Engineered for seamless integration into the WiiM ecosystem, it pairs with all WiiM streamers
– including the WiiM Ultra, which shares the same compact design for easy stacking, as well as the Pro Plus, Pro, and Mini – to deliver multiroom audio.
The Vibelink Amp is priced at £319.00 SRP and it is available in Space Grey or Silver finish. Stock begins shipping this April via distributor Henley Audio in the UK.

TRIUMPHANT TRIO FROM Q ACOUSTICS
Q Acoustics has introduced a new trio of highperformance active subwoofers, the Q SUB series. Whether as part of a Q Acoustics home cinema set-up, adding bass extension to an existing 7.2, 5.1 or 2.1 system or intensifying the low end on powered/active speakers, Q Acoustics says it has the right-sized model to fill a space with controlled bass.
The new subwoofer family consists of the 8in Q SUB80, the 10in Q SUB100 and a 12in model, Q SUB120. On board Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology ensures easy but comprehensive system and room integration and setting optimisation for a reportedly distortion-free performance.
They are designed to blend discreetly into the room or displayed to fit seamlessly into any interior space. The Q SUB series arrives in two modern but classic finishes: Satin Black with a black grille, or Satin White with a grey grille. The new models join the slimline 3060S to complete Q Acoustics’ subwoofer family.
All Q SUB series models have “exceptional bass power to cabinet size ratio”, says the manufacturer. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) allows easy system and room integration with optimised settings, whilst dual phase and delay controls allow the fine-tuning of the

signal alignments for flexible room placement. The DSP also identifies the input signal and automatically adjusts system gain – enhancing performance regardless of the connected source. A low pass filter with frequency adjustment ensures seamless integration with any partnering speaker system. Also on board, a custom-designed amplifier module features four digital power amplifier stages that improve efficiency by dissipating less heat, enhances speaker control and reduces output impedance. An infinite baffle box design presents a tighter
End user pricing for the subs is SUB80 £599, SUB100 £699, SUB120 £799
and more focused bass response, combining with DSP for precise tuning.
Internal dart-bracing improves mechanical stability, reduces cabinet ballooning and ensures optimal performance under high internal pressure whilst a 12V trigger input allows automatic power-up when a trigger signal is present.

KALEIDESCAPE INTRODUCES NEW STRATO M MOVIE PLAYER
Kaleidescape has announced Strato M, a new entry-level movie player for residential, marine and commercial theatre systems. Offered at half the price of Kaleidescape’s previous lowest-cost system, Strato M supports lossless multi-channel and spatial object-based audio, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Strato M also supports reference 2K video, with higher bit rates and bit depths than Blu-ray, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, BT.2020 and 4:2:2 chroma.
“Strato M opens up the Kaleidescape experience to a broader range of movie enthusiasts,” says Tayloe Stansbury, chairman & CEO of Kaleidescape. “And in larger systems, Strato M is great for secondary rooms, while reserving the flagship Strato V for main viewing areas.”
As a standalone system, Strato M provides a single playback zone that holds a half-dozen movies on an internal solid-state drive – downloading a movie in about ten minutes over gigabit Ethernet. It features a streamlined interface,
optimised for navigating a small movie library, offering automatic off-loading of watched movies 48 hours after playback. Purchased movies can be re-downloaded at any time.
Strato M can also be grouped with Terra Prime movie servers to increase storage. This returns Strato M’s interface to the full Kaleidescape user experience. Strato V, Strato C and Strato M players can all be grouped together with one or more Terra servers.
Kaleidescape Strato M also provides access to the Kaleidescape movie store, billed as the world’s only digital movie collection with
lossless audio and full reference video quality. The movie store offers thousands of 4K and HD titles for purchase or rent, including movies, TV series and concerts. Kaleidescape movies are downloaded, not streamed, so there is never buffering or loss in quality says the maker. The player is available in the UK from Invision UK and Pulse Cinemas.

AUDIO RESEARCH MAKES A STATEMENT
Now available in the UK, the Reference 330M is the finest amplifier ever created by Audio Research, claims the manufacturer, boasting the ability to control any loudspeaker with what the brand is calling a ‘vice-like’ grip.
The new flagship monoblock power amplifier has been optimised to deliver a natural, realistic musical experience. Infusing new technology and circuits with the finest vacuum-tube architecture, the 330M elevates
music reproduction to the highest plateau with an all-tube signal path, says Audio Research.
From its ECC83 input to its KT170 output, with tube regulation in the power supply, the 330M reportedly proves that users can enjoy the ease of high power along with a delicacy and purity usually associated with low-power amplifiers. Extension at both frequency extremes is state of the art, even for solid state amplification.

Key features include a fully balanced, pentode-mode monoblock design; 330W power output – more than double that of the Reference 160M MkII; its output stage incorporates six KT170 valves driven by JFET transistors; it features a valve/solid-state hybrid input and power supply circuitry with an all-valve signal path; Audio Research’s trademarked GhostMeter VU display ‘floats’ in front of the KT170 valves within a dual-layer glass window; and it’s built for longevity and operational convenience, with proprietary auto-bias, valve monitoring and technology to extend valve life.
Having showcased prototypes at audio shows around the world, Audio Research has finally completed its development of the Reference 330M and the amp is now shipping from the company’s HQ in Minnesota, USA.
Available in a choice of black or natural (silver) finishes, the Reference 330M is officially ‘price on application’ in the UK owing to fluctuations in exchange rates and import costs, but customers can expect to pay around £92,000 inc. VAT for a stereo pair.
