Always the perfect way to welcome in the fall season, ParksFest is once again positioned to help tri-staters recover from the summertime blues. This free, all-ages, all-day music, arts and food festival presented by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana is an annual highlight on the community calendar, drawing thousands of people to beautiful Garvin Park in early October as the leaves are turning colors. The scenery is truly ideal for such a cool event - especially as the sun starts to fade and the beautiful sounds from the stage waft into the crisp evening air.

This year, those beautiful sounds will be made by some of the area's most notable bands and solo artists, including Mock Orange, Faerie Ring, Cynthia Murray, Georgia Funkadelic, The Smoke Rings, Cage Willis and LaTasha Shemwell. While some of these talented acts are veterans of the Evansville music scene and beyond, others, such as Cage Willis, are relative newcomers creating a serious buzz in the tri-state. Taken as a whole, this may well be the most exciting lineup to date for ParksFest, featuring everything from alternative/heavy/ indie rock to folk, funk, hip-hop and R&B. If you somehow thought that Evansville lagged behind bigger cities, artistically speaking, think again. Just come to Garvin Park on October 1 and you'll see - and most importantly, hear - that we're right up there with the likes of Indianapolis, Louisville and St. Louis.

Of course, all that rocking out will inevitably whet your appetite for some of the delicious grub provided by the Evansville Food Truck Association - 12 food trucks in all on-site. No one should go home hungry, in other words. Or thirty, for that matter. Pro tip: there will be a beer garden provided by Bokeh Lounge and Working Distributors.

And as always, ParksFest will feature free kids activities and workshops, as well as art, craft and nonprofit vendors. So bring the young ones along, too, and let them experience the joy of this most excellent festival.
