APRIL 23 | OLD NATIONAL EVENTS PLAZA | 8 P.M.

It's been a while, eh? Live music has been mostly MIA at the downtown Evansville venues over the last year but finally there's a break in the clouds with the Allman Betts Band arriving on April 23 to liven things up a bit. The southern rockers who harbor a jam band influence - are fronted by sons of the Allman Brothers' founding members; which means they've got musical DNA for days. Fittingly, Devon Allman and Duane Betts drew on every bit of it for the group's 2019 debut, Down to the River, a raw, raucous outing that represented their first time playing together with the other members of the seven-piece

ensemble.

Safe to say sparks flew in the studio. Cut to the summer of 2020. After a relentless run of live shows to promote the

debut,

the

guys

reconvened to record the follow-up, tight as a drum and firing on all cylinders. The resulting release, a double album titled Bless Your Heart, is described as "vibrantly reflecting the individual and collective experiences of all seven, all drawing inspiration from the band's symbolic hometown - a place Devon Allman calls the "United States of Americana."" Standouts include the Lynyrd Skynyrdesque opening track "Pale Horse Rider" and the self-explanatory party anthem "Airboats & Cocaine" - but the whole set is solid from top to bottom with no weak link. The band's live reputation speaks for itself so don't miss out on what will hopefully be just the first of many great tri-state concerts in 2021.
