SARAH & TIM BELK COMUNITY KITCHEN ESTABLISHED AT SANGER HEART & VASCULAR INSTITUTE

A$500,000 gift to Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute from Sarah and Tim Belk will help ensure that patients have access to a “whole-health” approach to heart care. In recognition of their generous commitment, the facility’s state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen will be named in the Belks’ honor. A key component to Sanger’s holistic approach to healing and wellness, the Sarah & Tim Belk Community Kitchen will provide hands-on nutrition and healthy cooking instruction to complement its cardiac rehabilitation program.

In addition to providing patients with the latest education on smart-for-your-heart eating, the new facility will extend its services to families and community partners through seminars and cooking classes. The kitchen will bring chefs from across the country in to showcase the heart healthy items their restaurants provide. Sanger will also bring in local produce, package healthy meals, and distribute them within the community to those in need – an approach that resonated with the Belk family.

Sarah and Tim, the retired chairman and CEO of Belk, Inc., are the founders of Wild Hope Farm – a family business that serves as a resource for educating a new generation of organic farmers. Their farm not only brings high-quality, organic food into local communities through sustainable farming, but it’s a gathering place, much like the kitchen named in their honor.

A former member of the Atrium Health Board of Commissioners, Tim is a proponent of educating heart patients and families about health and wellness. He recently joined the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute Board of Ambassadors, and he and Sarah took this commitment to heart with their recent gift. Thanks to their support, the kitchen will provide a bounty of education and healthy meals for generations to come.
