Editorial: Finding Balance
T
he world finds itself in a very odd situation these days. We live in a time of great conflict and dilemmas, but we don’t see this concretely reflected in society – it can be said that the world is in much more trouble than it looks. This makes us uneasy, and uncertainty becomes the norm of the day. We live in a time of extremes and don’t really know what is going to happen in the world tomorrow. This is something that throws people off balance and makes us highly uncomfortable. It makes us not know how to live. It makes us want to jump from one thing to another and makes us very tired. This is why we should now search for balance. Searching for balance has two meanings. Firstly, we should think about the long term and how the world will change over the next years and try to find or refind balance as we try at least to move on from a world of uncertainty and weirdness. The second meaning of finding balance is to try to approach the everyday in a fashion that it is is defined by balance. We should all try why to discover the world in a new light. But what does having balance in the everyday mean? It simply means to take time and be in the moment, to do what you do without thinking about the next thing or about the previous thing. While this may be hard, this is the challenge of our times and a challenge that we need to overcome. Otherwise, we are simply going to go around in the dark. So, the challenge of these times is also the key to success, which is to find balance both in everyday life if and in the times to come. The Attire Club Team

The ongoing crisis with which the world is faced has brought to the mainstream many ideas that were already discussed in some circles, namely that the world will change dramatically over the next few years. The world in 2030 will be almost unrecognizable when compared to that of 2020. The underlining motors of this change will definitely be the new technologies: blockchain, AI, 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT) and their products (cryptocurrencies, etc.), which will act in many ways as the mechanisms on which these changes will take place. But what will the surface layer of the world look like and how will people’s lives change? In this trend notebook, we try to give shape to some general aesthetic and lifestyle trends, as they will apply to society and everyday life. attireclub.org |

mentalities
new experiences 24 | InCompanytAttirehClub
BAKING The recent negative experiences of being locked down at home have made many people re-appreciate home cooking. This is why baking will be a big trend, and we will re-learn to appreciate non-mass-produced food. Baking will be a big part of it.
attireclub.org |
25
cooking Making food from scratch will very likely be a big trend over the next years. From picking up the food itself from the garden to the final product, people will more and more make homemade meals. And, in the process, they will discover and re-discover recipes.
26 | InCompanytAttirehClub
preserving ingredients The scare of shortage will make many people want to learn how to preserve their ingredients for longer periods of time. The Portlandia skit “We Can Pickle That” may become a reality around the world. Jokes aside, we may indeed very well re-discover the process of canning food, but in a good way.
attireclub.org |
27
discovering nature Nature as a safe haven will be a big trend over the coming years. Many people will love climbing mountains, trekking in the woods and exploring the deserts of the world.
28 | InCompanytAttirehClub
SETTLED MENTALITIES attireclub.org |
29
echos of the past The past is something that is always changing. Odd, but a true statement. Therefore, in the future, the past will be again à la mode.
30 | InCompanytAttirehClub
amateur age The years to come will be dedicated to a lot of amateur work, with many people trying to give themselves a shot at arts, crafts and everything in between.
attireclub.org |
31
versatile living In the future, we will transform the spaces we live in, the objects we use and the clothes we wear. Things will extend, contract and re-shape to meet our needs.
32 | InCompanytAttirehClub
intimate gatherings Small, more private parties will be one of the marks of the years to come. Whether at home or not, we will see many people spend time with an intimate group of friends. Things such as family-size restaurants will also be a massive trend.
attireclub.org |
33
permission to enjoy Over the last years, everything got banned, canceled and everyone was guilted for their daily actions. For example, even car manufacturers made their new models not look very good to discourage people from buying cars. But, with the advent of the electric car, for example, we will see more and more beautiful cars. This will happen in many areas of life. We would especially be happy to see a computer or a tablet that actually works for a change.
34 | InCompanytAttirehClub
CONTROVERSIAL ROOTS attireclub.org |
35
assymetry The next years will be still marked by much controversy and conflict. In such contexts, asymmetric aesthetics are prevalent, so we are not expecting to see too many symmetric constructions too soon.
36 | InCompanytAttirehClub
counterinnovation Any movement will be involuntarily connected with a counter-movement. Thus, the big innovations of the coming years will be counter-balanced by a movement of counter-innovation—more on that to follow.
attireclub.org |
37
resistant, light, sustainable fabrics
In clothes-making, we will see many easy, sustainable and light fabrics fill the shelves of the stores. More on that in the fashion and tech section.
38 | InCompanytAttirehClub
organic design Design, may it be for clothes or for buildings, will be more and more inspired by nature and natural shapes, such as cones, leaves, caves and hives.

39
clan & tribe signaling
There won’t be much coming together in the future, so people will invent new (or not-so-new) ways of marking their belonging to a tribe or group in order to distinguish themselves from others.
40 | InCompanytAttirehClub
low, improvised style
Over the next years, we will see a lot of low style based on mixing and matching odd items. It’s going to be interesting…

craft & couture Craft and high tailoring will come together over the next years, as we will see more and more brands and designers adopt naïve aesthetics, but which will be crafted to the highest standards.

old becomes young Old clothes that are still viable will see a new life, whether through reconditioning or upcycling.

45
molecular precision Whether in clothing, makeup, or food, we will want everything to be pure and precise. After a long period marked by chemicals and disease, people will only want to wear or live in clean, precise environments and use products that have these qualities.
46 | InCompanytAttirehClub
mineral elements Whether in cosmetics or homeware, people will soon rely a lot on rocks and on the properties of minerals.

47
hybrid approach In cosmetics and other fields, brands will offer a mix of old recipes and precise technological advancements.
48 | InCompanytAttirehClub
spiritualized beauty Grooming yourself in front of the mirror will be an important experience in the near future, as new products and new ways of maintaining one’s health will appear.

absorbing tension The tension of the last 20 years (which can very well rise in the future) will need to be absorbed somehow. This will also be visible in the social and aesthetic trends of the next years.

gold While bitcoin or another cryptocurrency will very likely become a new standard of reference for power and financial gain, gold will also remain the symbol of the very rich.

story-filled objects Because people will want to have meaning in their lives, we will see more and more objects appear that have entire novels embedded in them, which will act in a way as fetishes, meaning tokens that offer the possessor a specific power.
54 | InCompanytAttirehClub
hobbies “If you have some free time in the future, you can very well take on a hobby”: this will be the mantra of many people in the near future.

genetics As part of the search for meaning, people will look more and more into their genetic backgrounds and their DNA for answers, whether family-related or health-related. The trend of searching for one’s ancestry or genetic components has already been strong over the last years, but now it will take off even more.

57
workshops Condensed, short knowledge-transmitting sessions in the form of masterclasses and workshops will be one of the ways in which people will engage in their learning process.
58 | InCompanytAttirehClub
public textiles Reprocessing textiles and using materials that are easily available in stores or online, and wearing hand-painted items or pieces whose making is filmed will be a soft trend over the coming years.
attireclub.org |
59
contemplative museums We’re not sure how correct this is, but it appears that the days of running through the Louvre and playing cards in its halls are quite over. In the coming years, the world of museums will be one of contemplation and spiritual analysis.
60 | InCompanytAttirehClub
artistic structures Like in the old days, people will turn everyday objects into art and vice-versa. What this means is that even something as small as a button or a spoon could have some artistic value.
attireclub.org |
61
religion One way or another, religion will be again appreciated, even though this will be most likely different than before. Maybe we will witness a religious renaissance?
62 | InCompanytAttirehClub
animism As a counter-religion, we will see a push for animism, namely the personification of nature and things. And, while it would probably be correct to say that objects have their specific energies too, we will likely fail to understand our relation to them. Or, who knows, maybe there will be a great awakening.

The Rouen Festival Book of Henri II The Royal Entry Festival was one of the most important rites in what is considered modern knightship. This central ritual was a celebration meant to welcome a newly-anointed king at the time of his first visit to a city. In the Middle Ages, the ceremony was quite simple: a few clergymen, a few officials, the bourgeoisie, and guild members would gather at the city’s gate to meet the new king and would lead him to the cathedral. Later, by the end of the 15th century, it had become a massive endeavor which featured an elaborated ritual with richly-produced pageants that would mark the king’s itinerary’s various stops. These beautiful paintings were featured in the handwritten manuscript titled “Relation de l’entrée de Henri II, roi de France, à Rouen, le 1er octobre 1550” (“The Royal Entry Festival of Henri II in Rouen on the 1st October 1550”).
