SURPRISING | CAPTIVATING | GRATEFUL These words speak to what sets TITAS/DANCE UNBOUD apart and to the state we find ourselves as we begin to emerge from the Covid Fog. Surprising, Captivating, Grateful, who we are and how we enter our new season. Dance is such a distinct art form. Luminous, arduous, meaningful and inspiring. “I’m overwhelmed, this was not what I expected.”, time and time again these are the reactions I hear from audiences, something our longtime subscribers have always known. Reaching the 40th anniversary affords TITAS the unique perspective of truly looking back and exploring the impact high quality, curatorial arts presentation has on a city, on a community. For 40 years, TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND has presented the most innovative, the most remarkable artists touring the world today. We look forward to another 40. The 2022:23 season won’t disappoint. Bold, beguiling and breathtaking imagery makes this a very special set of internationally touring companies. We proudly present a season of ten extraordinary companies from the United States, Canada and South Africa. Five of these companies are making their debuts with TITAS. Thank you for being a part of another year of breathtaking performances, and thank you for actively engaging in the arts and for being a part of the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND and AT&T Performing Arts Center family. What we do together, truly does make a difference.
Gratefully,
Charles Santos Executive Director/Artistic Director

BO DY TR A F F I C Like a breath of “creative fresh air,” BODYTRAFFIC returns to Dallas with a compelling style that reflects the “invention, attitude, and urban edge” (The Boston Globe) of its Los Angeles home. An evening of compelling works that embody the company’s energy, sophistication, and sheer joy for dance. This program features a new work by the collaborative team of Baye & Asa, fusing intricate patterns of rhythm and form along with Alejandro Cerrudo’s PACOPEPEPLUTO, featuring three dancers who move to the classic voice of Dean Martin with utter abandon. These works, and so much more, make this a truly exciting, spell-binding evening of dance. TITAS is thrilled to welcome BODYTRAFFIC back to Dallas, Friday, November 11, 2022, Winspear Opera House. ONE NIGHT ONLY, A MUST SEE!!!!

SO N G O F TH E N O R TH A magical evening of large-scale shadow puppetry that transports the audience into ancient worlds full of color, history and stunning imagery. An inspirational epic, from ancient Persia, comes to life in this stunning multi-disciplinary performance created through shadow puppetry, projected animation, music, movement, and theater. 483 handmade puppets are used to tell the story of Manijeh, a courageous heroine who uses her strengths and determination to rescue her beloved and help prevent a war. Adapted from the Book of Kings (Shahnameh), a historical and cultural touchstone that is a national treasure in Iran, Song of the North challenges the art of storytelling. A one-of-a-kind multimedia experience that celebrates culture, collaboration, experimentation, and unity. Storytelling at its best, this is a very special TITAS presentation. Wonderful for the entire family, don’t miss Hamid Rahmanian’s Song Of The North, Friday and Saturday, January 13 & 14, 2023, Moody Performance Hall.

A L A N L A KE FAC TO R I( E) Bold, outrageous, and shocking, Le cri des méduses, is a perfect fit for our new TITAS/UNFILTERED series. Alan Lake has created a work poised between fable and allegory. Le cri des méduses, a polymorphic choreographic work– enriched with visual art and video – reinforces Alan Lake’s status as a significant Canadian artist. Starting from Théodore Géricault’s painting, The Raft of the Medusa, Lake proposes a vision of a humanity adrift. A physical dance like a pagan ritual, jostled by images of a powerful scenography, Le cri des méduses both promises and delivers a startling artistic shock. Such a surprising and stunning work, Le cri des méduses, is the definition of what TITAS/UNFILTERED was designed to celebrate! This production contains some nudity.

VU YA N I DA N C E TH E ATR E The music of Ravel’s Boléro using South African a cappella voices as a musical device creates the incredibly powerful score. A cathartic, yet uplifting and remarkable work, CION: Requiem of Ravel’s Boléro is a hauntingly beautiful and moving exploration of grief, struggle and relief. A requiem that awakens the connection to the departed souls, CION: Requiem of Ravel’s Boléro, draws inspiration from creations by two artists: the character Toloki in South African author Zakes Mda’s novels Cion and Ways of Dying and music from French composer Maurice Ravel’s Boléro. Spectacular, surprising, moving and powerfully cathartic, Cion: Requiem of Ravel’s Boléro is absolutely Not-To-Be-Missed!
