EDUCA– TION 2021
Thank you for supporting the development of our students. Our relationship is of enormous importance to our students as we are a PSFP school and most of our students do not have the opportunity to attend theatre productions or to receive workshops. The performance was invaluable to the students ... this developed their own self-belief. Birrong Girls High School

ATYP
Education 2021
I speak on behalf of all of us at ATYP when I say we are extremely excited to present our 2021 Education season. Over the past twelve months, in a changing world that has caused such uncertainty, ATYP has re-assessed, innovated and evolved. We have looked at what we do best, what opportunities lie online, and devised new worlds of opportunity in the ways we connect with schools and communities. We have hatched a grand plan.
We will return to presenting a season of on stage productions that showcase the very best theatre with young people. 2021 features works by our finest playwrights, created with leading professional artists and will be performed by the actors that will go on to light up our industry for years to come. As always, ATYP showcases plays that place young people as the protagonists in professionally developed theatre, showing us the world through their eyes.
From 2021 ATYP will have the capacity to reach all Australian schools. Our online platform, ATYP On Demand, has emerged as Australia’s flagship digital educational resource for theatre. It can be accessed from anywhere and we now support it with online and in-person programs across Australia.
And in 2021 we connect our programs directly with you, the teachers and your students. We are handing over our commissions, we are providing exclusive access to our plays and we are ready to share our expertise and experience with you. From online mentoring to selecting scripts, publishing plays and working together to stage shows around the country, this year education is at the heart of everything ATYP is doing. Fraser Corfield Artistic Director

Simply select the scenes that best suit your class, then rehearse and submit your best five scenes, to go in the running to perform them live at the showcase event in Sydney, for your chance to win the Intersection Trophy and video equipment for your school.
*Some Intersection short plays would be suitable for Year 8 students.
Once again, ATYP has provided a wonderful springboard and reference point for our HSC Drama Students. Why do you have to go to work? How come adults drink to have fun? What was life like before the Internet? Is 50 too old to learn to surf? This is a work full of questions. Asked by young people. Answered by adults. Transformed inside a theatre-turnedplayground-turned-battleground delivered by Generation Up Next. Watch as age collides with experience in a revealing onehour tell-all, where adults take a backseat as a powerful gang of 9-13-year-olds drop some truths… and the mic.

Things feel darker in the dark, don’t they? Okay, that sounded more profound in my head. – Amy One quiet night, the street lights flicker out and plunge the world into darkness. A “lights out” party in Royal Park is announced and every kid in town makes their way there to celebrate this strange occurrence. A trio of role-players leave their game and embark on a quest for revenge, two enterprising youngsters sell torches at reasonable prices... the disgraced star of a viral video looks to make her social comeback and the floor-mopper at the local chemist encounters the worst kind of shoplifter. All these stories unfold on the way to Royal Park because everybody’s on their way to the same party. And it is not to be missed.

Stories with heart, honesty and humanity. Follow Me Home is an insightful new theatre production by award-winning playwright Lewis Treston. Presented as a series of vignettes, the play reveals the real stories of a group of extraordinarily strong, resilient and courageous young people from across Australia. Telling the truth and sharing your story takes guts. Real guts. How do you tell your friend she can’t sleep over anymore? Can you help a parent when she’s lost all hope? How can you strive for independence when the system is working against you? And what if just being honest means you’re out on the street?

Antarctica. A blizzard. Eight school kids are stranded in a shack, at the bottom of the world, with a sinister force circling outside‌ Our young explorers, in the ghostly footsteps of Ernest Shackleton, question their place in the natural and social order of the world, as the limits of their courage are pushed into uncharted waters. Safety (and sanity) seems to be drifting farther and farther away. The younger generation is being called on to lead like never before. The power of nature and the nature of power are explored in this adventure story for the Greta Thunberg generation. A hypothermic flurry of comedy and thriller, Shack explores the territory between teen anxiety and teen invincibility. How do our young people learn to step up and lead, when sometimes just existing is hard enough?! So zip up your warmest parka and be ready for anything‌
