South Coast Spring Fair Saturday 22nd April South Coast Spring Fair was a public event that took place on Saturday 22nd April in the Triangle, Bournemouth. The Triangle is a rapidly developing part of the town and the students were able to take full advantage of this interesting space for their project, with the support of local shops and businesses. This celebration of the local area included street food, market stalls, a live music stage, craft stalls, workshops and much more. The project raised awareness for the Round Table Children’s Wish Charity, a local charity who grant wishes to terminally ill children all over the country.

The R.A.W. Project Saturday 22nd April The R.A.W Project celebrated the existing creative scene in Bournemouth and left behind a cultural legacy. The focal point of this event was the unveiling of a 190 metre squared mural, delivered by renowned local artist Miroslav Lucan (Lucan Art). The piece will endure for 10 years and, it is hoped, will become a cultural landmark for Bournemouth. Alongside the unveiling of the mural, the event included creative drop-in workshops, a multimedia art exhibition, a silent auction, live music and guest talks offering advice to aspiring creatives who are on the threshold of entering working life. The students worked with local organisations South West Artwork and Flux Framing to ensure high quality production values throughout the project. Having collaborated with Virgin Media and Kev Munday to create two public art pieces in the centre of town, the finale was a fantastic and memorable way to showcase the entirety of this innovative project.

Walk of Fame Tuesday 25th April Prestige Productions brought a new, unique and immersive event to Bournemouth’s nightlife on Tuesday 25th April. Walk of Fame was a multi-venue event; the audience began their night at Eden, before they were guided through Bournemouth Square, and then taken to the final venue, Bar Republic. The popular ‘Dirty Dancing’ was showcased at Eden and in Bar Republic there was a feature from ‘Burlesque’ – along with a surprise for the audience in Bournemouth Square itself in the form of a pop-up dance performance from Passion Dance. The event also included projections of the films and dancers, who engaged with the audience and taught them dances influenced by the films and their popular soundtracks. Walk of Fame hoped to make its audience feel as if they had stepped right into the movies by means of a unique, participatory experience.

Signals Sunday 23rd & Wednesday 26th April ‘Signals’ was a pop-up, multi-art-form exhibition that incorporated immersive performance to explore the topics of consent, sexual assault and the positive and negative sides of sex. The thought provoking artwork featured within ‘Signals’ was sourced from a range of talented local and international artists, whose work included photography, sculpture, illustration and installation. This free event was hosted in two different locations across two evenings; the first was hosted in Canvas, Bournemouth on Sunday 23rd April. The second took place in AUB’s iconic CRAB Drawing Studio on Wednesday 26th April; a building designed and completed by Professor Sir Peter Cook RA. The students wanted to break down the taboos surrounding sexual assault, consent and sex in order to enable young people to speak about their experiences in a safe space, without the shame and judgement that these issues are often associated with. They endeavoured to open up a dialogue with the community, take action and address the grey area surrounding the issues of sex and consent, whilst offering the audience the support that is available to them throughout the Dorset area. With guidance and support from Safer Poole Partnership and Dorset Rape Crisis Support Centre, the group aimed to deliver these topics in a way that was never seen before in Dorset. https://www.facebook.com/NamelessProductionsSignals/?fref=ts
A.L.I.C.E. Friday 28th April Loosely based on the theme of Alice In Wonderland, A.L.I.C.E. was an event that raised awareness for mental health and tackled the stigma attached to it. Another key aim of the project was to act as a fundraiser for local Bournemouth based charity BCHA, specifically raising money and awareness for their mental health department, SMILE. The event was held on the evening of Friday 28th April 2017 in the unique setting of Athelhampton House in Puddletown, Dorset. The evening consisted of an immersive theatre piece, exploring Alice’s journey through Wonderland and her relationship with family members, whilst subtly hinting at emotions experienced by a person suffering from various mental health disorders. Food was combined with informative and inspirational talks, evening entertainment and a silent auction, to help raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

Each year students on the BA (Hons) Creative Events Management course at AUB are expected to produce a live event as part of their studies. By this stage of the course, students will have a good body of experience in staging live events and responding to creative briefs. They will also have strong technical and organisational skills, including planning, marketing, finance and fundraising. The Live Event 3: Major Project unit allows students to deliver a team project of their own devising and through this, demonstrate the culmination of skills, knowledge and experience gained throughout the course. This unit is designed to challenge and to provide an opportunity for the students to evidence their ability to analyse, interpret and respond to a complex body of knowledge and practice. Their projects are expected to have high creative values, to be pushing at the boundaries of industry practice or, alternatively, to engage with the community and involve the students in something they might not have experienced before, either as spectators or as participants.
