Scala 13th Season Record: 314-246-3
Dominic Scala, former bullpen coach of the New York Yankees, is entering his 13th year at the helm of the Adelphi University baseball team. The 2015 season started and ended on high notes despite a 20-21 record for Scala and the Panthers. After continuous delayed and canceled games due to the Northeast weather, the Brown and Gold finally opened the season with an 8-3 victory at then ranked sixth Nova Southeastern on Friday, March 13. The campaign ended in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship as Adelphi made a run through the tournament, before falling to Stonehill in the final game. Highlighting the season for Scala was career victory number 300 on April 3 with an 8-4 win against Le Moyne. his second Coach of the Year honor at the helm of the Panthers. Scala also guided the Brown and Gold back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 where the Panthers were the No. 1 seed. Adelphi advanced to the Regional Finals, coming up one win shy of a trip to the College World Series. Scala had six players named to All-Conference teams, and the program’s first ABCA All-American since 2000. Scala also collected his 200th win at Adelphi this season.
After receiving NE-10 All-Conference First Team and Daktronics & NCBWA First-Team All-Region kudos, Cliff Brantley became the eighth Panther to sign a professional contract when he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round of the MLB Draft.
In 2010, Scala led the Panthers to a 15-11 conference mark and a spot in the conference tournament in their first year in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Panthers finished the season with a 29-19 overall record. Scala had five players named to the NE10 All-Conference Team and one player to the Daktronics All-East Region Team, as well as two players to both the 2010 ABCA & Rawlings NCAA Division II EAST All-Region Team and the 2010 National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-East Region Team.
In 2013, Scala guided the Panthers back to the postseason for the ninth time in his 10 seasons at the helm. Adelphi finished with a 23-25-1 record overall after going 11-10 in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division play and earning the fourth seed in the playoffs. Scala helped his squad to a total of 20 postseason awards: three All-America honors, six All-Region selections, three Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star picks, seven NE-10 All-Conference accolades and the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence Award for the highest team grade point average of any NE-10 baseball team. Scala also saw his fourth Adelphi player selected in the Major League Baseball Draft in relief pitcher Dillon McNamara, who became the seventh Panther to sign a professional contract after playing for Scala when McNamara was picked by the New York Yankees in the 27th round.
The 2009 season was one of Scala’s most successful to date. He coached a team that finished first in the ECC regular season as well as the conference tournament. Under his direction, the team earned their second NCAA regional bid since the 2007 season, and the 15th in history. The squad cruised through the rounds, advancing to the finals before falling in the deciding game to Dowling.
Scala led the team to a 23-22 overall record in 2012, posting a 15-17 NE-10 record and an 11-10 record in Southwest Division, in the first year of divisional play. Scala had one player selected to the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team, one selected to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team and one player was named to the ABCA All-East Region Second Team.
Capping off the season, Scala had six All-Conference selections, ten All-Region honors split between the Daktronics, NCBWA and ABCA and NCAA
The 2011 season was a record breaking season for the Panthers as their 36 wins is the most in the program’s history. Scala led the Panthers to a second-place finish in the regular season standings and guided Adelphi to win their first Northeast-10 Tournament title. For his efforts, Scala received

ADELPHI BASEBALL All-Region Teams. In 2008, Scala led the Panthers to the ECC Tournament for the sixth straight year before falling in the final. They posted a 25-25 overall record, 14-13 in ECC action and included five All-Conference players.
from 1978-1986. During his nine-year stint with the Yankees, he was a member of the 1978 World Championship and the 1981 American League Championship teams and worked with such legendary coaches as Yogi Berra, Billy Martin, Gene Michael, Jeff Torborg and the late Dick Howser.
A highlight of the season came post-play when junior pitcher, Bobby Lanigan was drafted 92nd overall by the Minnesota Twins, the highest in Adelphi history and the first since 1993.
From 1987-1990, he became the Advance Major League Scout and Special Assignment Scout of the Pittsburgh Pirates under Jim Leyland. In addition to maintaining his own baseball camps since 1990, he has served as director of many others, including NY Mets camp and the Dave Winfield camp.
Scala had his most successful season to date in 2007, helping Adelphi to a record of 35-17, including an ECC regular season and tournament title. The Panthers earned their second trip in three years to the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional, placing third.
Prior to Adelphi he served as the third base coach for St. Mary High School, a team that hadn’t won a single catholic high school game in its seven years existence. In 2003, they won three games, including upsetting No. 1 seed Chaminade in the first round of the Catholic High School League playoffs.
The Panthers also had two players earn All-America honors in outfielder Mike Testani and pitcher Mike Myers. Adelphi also swept the Player and Pitcher of the year in the ECC as six players were selected to the all-conference team.
A standout-athlete in both football and baseball at St. Francis Prep, Scala was elected to the school’s Hall of Fame in its inaugural 2013 class. He went on to play third base at St. John’s University from 1972-76. A collegiate third team All-American and two-time ECAC All-Star, his name still appears in the top ten collegiate career record books in nine of 13 offensive categories. A team captain, he batted .420 his senior year, good for 15th in the nation, and was named the team MVP.
Scala guided the Panthers to a 21-23 overall mark and a third seed in the ECC playoffs in 2006. He also coached six players to all-conference honors and had freshman Bobby Lanigan earn Rookie of The Year honors. In 2005, Scala steered Adelphi back to regional prominence, leading the Panthers to their first NCAA Division II Northeast Regional since 1999. Adelphi finished the season with a 25-19 record, earning Scala ECC Coach of the Year honors.
Scala has also been instrumental in many large university projects, including the building of William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. Scala helped raise funds for the state-of-the-art baseball field which was opened in 2007 and continues to aid in sponsorship and field signage efforts. Scala has also taken on the duty of organizing the annual Fall Cocktail Reception, a trademark event put on by the Adelphi athletic department that has featured high-profile guests such as Willie Randolph, Goose Gossage, David Cone, Bucky Dent, Don Mattingly and Chris Chambliss.
In his first year, Scala took over a team that had won just seven games in the previous season and three in the conference. But, Scala immediatly turned things around, guided Adelphi to a 12 game improvement (19-22) in the win column and a return to the ECC tournament with a 10-10 conference mark. Scala came to Adelphi with an impressive professional and collegiate career. Drafted in the 6th round by the Oakland A’s in 1976, he was acquired by the NY Yankees as the Bullpen Coach

The Northeast-10 Conference The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. With the addition of women’s golf in 2014-15, the NE-10 now sponsors a total of 24 sports.
When it came to NCAA postseason selections, the NE-10 once again had another sensational year with 44 teams chosen to participate in national tournaments during the year. In addition, student-athletes from 32 different men’s and women’s golf, swimming and diving, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track & field teams competed for national titles. Of those 44 teams earning NCAA bids, 14 different Northeast-10 institutions were represented. Seven NE-10 teams reached the national semifinal round, while three teams played in their respective sport’s national title game.
The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.).
It was a record year for the Northeast-10 academically in 2015-16 as well. Five NE-10 institutions achieved a department Academic Success Rate (graduation rate) of at least 90 percent. Four achieved a score of 95 percent or better, ranking them in the top seven nationally. A record 61 percent of the league’s student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the spring with 243 posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Another new record was set this summer with the release of Team Academic Excellence awards, as 75 percent of the league’s 292 teams achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NE-10 also honored 247 student-athletes as members of its academic all-conference teams during the fall, winter and spring seasons.
The conference’s 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and from Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y. Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester and New York City. The Northeast-10 was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in the conference’s latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions. In addition, LIU Post (Brookville, N.Y.) is an associate member of the NE-10 in the sports of field hockey and football.
The Northeast-10 also remains focused on its community endeavors. The conference has built a strong partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses with college sports teams. In 2015, the NE-10 became the first ‘fully-matched’ conference in Division II, as at least one team from each member institution has matched with a Team IMPACT child. More than 60 NE-10 teams currently have matches through Team IMPACT. The conference’s fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish are also more than any other Division II conference in the country over the past decade.
The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student-athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 36 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.
The conference is coming off another successful year, collecting four national titles in 2015-16. Two champions from the NE-10 were crowned at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships during the winter season. First it was American International’s Chandler Cotton, Jr., Kemani Hume, Leakey Kipkosgei and Chad Miller claiming the men’s distance medley relay title with a time of 9:48.02. Then Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro won the women’s 400-meter dash title with a time of 52.34 the following night. Muscaro wasn’t quite finished, however, as she defended her 400-meter dash crown at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, winning her second individual national championship of

2015-16 by finishing the 400 in 51.32, just .03 seconds shy of the meet record. The very next day, Le Moyne defeated Limestone, 8-4, to win its fifth NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and cap off a perfect 20-0 season.

Adelphi Wins First NE-10 Title In Program History In Rain-Shortened Championship OLD WESTBURY, NY - On May 15, 2011, Adelphi University won the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Championship as the final series between the Panthers and Franklin Pierce University was unable to be played due to rainy conditions. The Panthers, who served as the host for the championship, won each of their games during the weekend, defeating Franklin Pierce 8-5 on Friday afternoon, and then knocking off Southern Connecticut State University 6-2 on Saturday. Adelphi received solid pitching performances during the weekend, with Robert Nixon throwing a complete game in the first win, and Mike Scudero going the distance in an impressive win over So. Connecticut, the regular season champions.

Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Danny
McCabe After a nationwide search, Danny McCabe was appointed Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation at Adelphi in July 2013 by former Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott.
In his first two years at the helm of the athletics department, the Panthers continued to set a standard of excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference, winning the school’s second consecutive Presidents’ Cup in 2013-14 before finishing second in 2014-15. In that time, Adelphi claimed seven NE-10 Championships, sent 15 teams to NCAA Tournament play and claimed two NCAA National Championships in women’s lacrosse. In 2015, the softball team reached the Women’s College World Series for the first time as a Division II program, winning the NCAA Division II East 2 Regional on Janet L. Ficke Field before sweeping the Super Regional on the campus of top-seeded Southern New Hampshire. In the classroom, 12 student-athletes have been recognized as CoSida Capital One Academic All-District I Team honorees, including five Academic All-Americans from the men’s lacrosse (Nick Watson), women’s lacrosse (Devan Crimi, Alexa Froccaro), women’s soccer (Taylor Groth) and women’s basketball (Kelly Mannix) programs. Furthermore, seven teams earned the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2013-14, while the softball program posted the highest GPA across all three NCAA Divisions; the program followed that up as one of four Panther teams to win an Academic Excellence Award in 2014-15, recording the highest GPA in the history of the award. In addition to the success in competition and in the classroom, McCabe has been instrumental in expanding Adelphi’s corporate partners, bringing the sponsorships of TD Bank ®, the Whitmore Group, the Greene Turtle, and MetLife ® to the department. In 2015, MetLife Legacy Advisors became the title sponsor of Adelphi’s annual Fall Cocktail Reception, while MetroTeam Outfitters returned as Adelphi’s official gear sponsor and joined the roster of corporate partners as the title sponsor of the annual Ficke Golf Classic. The funds raised at these special events reached record levels, and membership in the Panther Club, the department’s major friendand-fundraising arm, also doubled in 2015 to nearly 800 members. McCabe has been instrumental in creating several new positions in the department, beginning with the addition of a varsity women’s golf program and the hiring of Keith Ferrara as the first full-time strength and conditioning coach. In addition, the department created a new strength and conditioning center inside the Center for Recreation and Sports which features all the amenities required for a first-class program. Finally, in 2015, McCabe was chosen to begin a three-year term on the men’s ADELPHI UNIVERSITY
basketball NCAA East Regional Advisory Committee and also serves on the ECAC Board of Directors. McCabe came to Adelphi from Hofstra University, where he was a part of the Pride Intercollegiate Athletic program for eight years, as Executive Associate Athletic Director. He played a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the department and in that role McCabe spearheaded Hofstra’s NCAA Certification process, and played a large role in developing and implementing the University’s five-year plan for athletics. He also served as the chairman of the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals Organizing Committee at Hofstra in 2009 and 2011. In addition, McCabe served as the program administrator for the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, volleyball and the men’s soccer program and had oversight responsibilities for the sports medicine and strength and conditioning departments. Prior to Hofstra, McCabe was at Providence College where he served as Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations from 2000-05. In that capacity, he managed all athletic department marketing, promotions and sales strategies for the Big East institution. Under his guidance, the College experienced increased sponsorship sales and ticket sales and increased the average attendance at Friar men’s basketball games. McCabe also oversaw the Providence Athletic Ticket Office, managed their collegiate licensing program increasing revenue by 133 percent, and worked with the Director of Athletics in the department’s fundraising program. Before his time at Providence, McCabe served as the University of Miami (FL) Director of Ticket Sales from 1998 to 2000. At Miami, he handled season ticket and group ticket sales strategies for the Hurricane’s football, baseball, and men’s and women’s basketball programs. McCabe also spent time in leadership roles in the marketing departments at both Bill Altenberg - 1950-51 Fairfield University George Faherty - 1951-66 (1994-98) and Fordham University (1991-92). Jim Bedell - 1966-72 A 1991 graduate of Ron Bazil - 1972-79 Providence College with Larry Keating - 1979-85 a bachelor’s degree in Paul Doherty - 1985-87 business administration, Robert Hartwell - 1987-2013 McCabe earned a MBA degree from Fairfield Danny McCabe - 2013-Present University in 2004.

Long Island There’s more than plenty to do on Long Island. Arts, culture, history, beaches, golf and shopping.
Central Suffolk, with beautiful forests and natural inlets, the world’s largest factory outlet center and a huge water park.
There are five distinctive regions in Long Island North Shore, otherwise known as the Gold Coast, with dozens of historic sites dating back to colonial days and Gatsby-era mansions .
North Fork, with an array of vineyards, waterfront ports and farm stands.
South Shore, the Island’s spectator sports and entertainment center, with world-famous Jones and Fire Island Beaches, and home to the New York Islanders.
South Fork, widely known as “The Hamptons,” with its pristine beaches and exclusive villages.
New York City It is impossible not to find something interesting to do and see in Manhattan. The most renowned of New York City’s five boroughs, Manhattan offers the best of everything—Broadway shows, concerts, sporting events, museums, shops, restaurants, parks, parades, cultural landmarks and one-of-akind neighborhoods. New York City is only 30 minutes from the Adelphi University Campus. On a trip to Manhattan, you could: • Head to Central Park to catch the finish of the New York City Marathon, or pack a picnic basket for lunch on the grass at Strawberry Fields; • Ring in the New Year by watching the famous ball drop in Times Square; • Catch a Tony Awardwinning show or late-night TV favorite David Letterman on Broadway; • See the Knicks take the court or the Rangers hit the ice at historic Madison Square Garden;
