In total, four players earned NE-10 AllConference awards, while two earned Daktronics & NCBWA First-Team All-Region recognition. Senior captain Richard Mejia was named to the Daktronics All-America Second team and as an Honorable Mention for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America Team. After receiving NE-10 All-Conference First Team and Daktronics & NCBWA First-Team All-Region kudos, Cliff Brantley became the eighth Panther to sign a professional contract when he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round of the MLB Draft. In 2013, Scala guided the Panthers back to the postseason for the ninth time in his 10 seasons at the helm. Adelphi finished with a 23-25-1 record overall after going 11-10 in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division play and earning the fourth seed in the playoffs. Scala helped his squad to a total of 20 postseason awards: three All-America honors, six All-Region selections, three Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star picks, seven NE-10 All-Conference accolades and the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence Award for the highest team grade point average of any NE-10 baseball team. Scala also saw his fourth Adelphi player selected in the Major League Baseball Draft in relief pitcher Dillon McNamara, who became the seventh Panther to sign a professional contract after playing for Scala when McNamara was picked by the New York Yankees in the 27th round. Scala led the team to a 23-22 overall record in 2012, posting a 15-17 NE-10 record and an 11-10 record in Southwest Division, in the first year of divisional play. Scala also guided the Brown and Gold back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 where the Panthers were the No. 1 seed. Adelphi advanced to the Regional Finals, coming up one win shy of a trip to the College World Series. Scala had six players named to All-Conference teams, and the program’s first ABCA All-American since 2000. Scala also collected his 200th win at Adelphi this season. In 2010, Scala led the Panthers to a 15-11 conference mark and a spot in the conference tournament in their first year in the Northeast-10 Conference. Scala had five players named to the NE10 All-Conference Team and one player to the Daktronics All-East Region Team, as well as two players to both the 2010 ABCA & Rawlings NCAA Division II EAST All-Region Team and the 2010 National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-East Region Team. The 2009 season was one of Scala’s most successful to date. He coached a team that finished first in the ECC regular season as well as the conference tournament. Under his direction, the team earned their second NCAA regional bid since the 2007 season, and the 15th in history. BASEBALL Daktronics, NCBWA and ABCA and NCAA All-Region Teams. In 2008, Scala led the Panthers to the ECC Tournament for the sixth straight year before falling in the final. They posted a 25-25 overall record, 14-13 in ECC action and included five All-Conference players. A highlight of the season came post-play when junior pitcher, Bobby Lanigan was drafted 92nd overall by the Minnesota Twins, the highest in Adelphi history and the first since 1993. Scala had his most successful season to date in 2007, helping Adelphi to a record of 35-17, including an ECC regular season and tournament title. The Panthers earned their second trip in three years to the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional, placing third. The Panthers also had two players earn All-America honors in outfielder Mike Testani and pitcher Mike Myers. Adelphi also swept the Player and Pitcher of the year in the ECC as six players were selected to the all-conference team. Scala guided the Panthers to a 21-23 overall mark and a third seed in the ECC playoffs in 2006. He also coached six players to all-conference honors and had freshman Bobby Lanigan earn Rookie of The Year honors. In 2005, Scala steered Adelphi back to regional prominence, leading the Panthers to their first NCAA Division II Northeast Regional since 1999. Adelphi finished the season with a 25-19 record, earning Scala ECC Coach of the Year honors. In his first year, Scala took over a team that had won just seven games in the previous season and three in the conference. But, Scala immediatly turned things around, guided Adelphi to a 12 game improvement (19-22) in the win column and a return to the ECC tournament with a 10-10 conference mark. Scala came to Adelphi with an impressive professional and collegiate career. Drafted in the 6th round by the Oakland A’s in

1976, he was acquired by the NY Yankees as the Bullpen Coach from 1978-1986. During his nine-year stint with the Yankees, he was a member of the 1978 World Championship and the 1981 American League Championship teams and worked with such legendary coaches as Yogi Berra, Billy Martin, Gene Michael, Jeff Torborg and the late Dick Howser. From 1987-1990, he became the Advance Major League Scout and Special Assignment Scout of the Pittsburgh Pirates under Jim Leyland. In addition to maintaining his own baseball camps since 1990, he has served as director of many others, including NY Mets camp and the Dave Winfield camp. Prior to Adelphi he served as the third base coach for St. Mary High School, a team that hadn’t won a single catholic high school game in its seven years existence. In 2003, they won three games, including upsetting No. 1 seed Chaminade in the first round of the Catholic High School League playoffs. A standout-athlete in both football and baseball at St. Francis Prep, Scala was elected to the school’s Hall of Fame in its inaugural 2013 class. He went on to play third base at St. John’s University from 1972-76. A collegiate third team All-American and two-time ECAC All-Star, his name still appears in the top ten collegiate career record books in nine of 13 offensive categories. A team captain, he batted .420 his senior year, good for 15th in the nation, and was named the team MVP. Scala has also been instrumental in many large university projects, including the building of William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. Scala helped raise funds for the state-of-the-art baseball field which was opened in 2007 and continues to aid in sponsorship and field signage efforts. Scala has also taken on the duty of organizing the annual Fall Cocktail Reception, a trademark event put on by the Adelphi athletic department that has featured high-profile guests such as Willie Randolph, Goose Gossage, David Cone, Bucky Dent, Don Mattingly and Chris Chambliss.

The Northeast-10 Conference The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. With the addition of women’s golf in 2014-15, the NE10 now sponsors a total of 24 sports. The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.). The conference’s 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and from Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y. Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester and New York City. The Northeast-10 was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in the conference’s latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions. In addition, LIU Post (Brookville, N.Y.) is an associate member of the NE10 in the sports of field hockey and football. The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student-athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. The conference is coming off another successful year, collecting four national titles in 2015-16. Two champions from the NE10 were crowned at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships during the winter season. First it was American International’s Chandler Cotton, Jr., Kemani Hume, Leakey Kipkosgei and Chad Miller claiming the men’s distance medley relay title with a time of 9:48.02. Then Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro won the women’s 400-meter dash title with a time of 52.34 the following night. Muscaro wasn’t quite finished, however, as she defended her 400-meter dash crown at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, winning her

second individual national championship of 201516 by finishing the 400 in 51.32, just .03 seconds shy of the meet record. The very next day, Le Moyne defeated Limestone, 8-4, to win its fifth NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and cap off a perfect 20-0 season. When it came to NCAA postseason selections, the NE10 once again had another sensational year with 44 teams chosen to participate in national tournaments during the year. In addition, student-athletes from 32 different men’s and women’s golf, swimming and diving, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track & field teams competed for national titles. Of those 44 teams earning NCAA bids, 14 different Northeast-10 institutions were represented. Seven NE10 teams reached the national semifinal round, while three teams played in their respective sport’s national title game. It was a record year for the Northeast-10 academically in 2015-16 as well. Five NE10 institutions achieved a department Academic Success Rate (graduation rate) of at least 90 percent. Four achieved a score of 95 percent or better, ranking them in the top seven nationally. A record 61 percent of the league’s student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the spring with 243 posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Another new record was set this summer with the release of Team Academic Excellence awards, as 75 percent of the league’s 292 teams achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NE10 also honored 247 student-athletes as members of its academic all-conference teams during the fall, winter and spring seasons. The Northeast-10 also remains focused on its community endeavors. The conference has built a strong partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses with college sports teams. In 2015, the NE10 became the first ‘fully-matched’ conference in Division II, as at least one team from each member institution has matched with a Team IMPACT child. More than 60 NE10 teams currently have matches through Team IMPACT. The conference’s fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish are also more than any other Division II conference in the country over the past decade. Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 36 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.

Adelphi Wins First NE-10 Title In Program History In Rain-Shortened Championship OLD WESTBURY, NY - On May 15, 2011, Adelphi University won the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Championship as the final series between the Panthers and Franklin Pierce University was unable to be played due to rainy conditions. The Panthers, who served as the host for the championship, won each of their games during the weekend, defeating Franklin Pierce 8-5 on Friday afternoon, and then knocking off Southern Connecticut State University 6-2 on Saturday. Adelphi received solid pitching performances during the weekend, with Robert Nixon throwing a complete game in the first win, and Mike Scudero going the distance in an impressive win over So. Connecticut, the regular season champions.

Due to rain which fell throughout the evening on Saturday and into Sunday morning, the championship game(s) could not be played. Franklin Pierce knocked off So.
