2016
The Northeast-10 Conference the national title in the 4x400 relay at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. With the addition of women’s golf in 201415, the NE-10 now sponsors a total of 24 sports.
When it came to NCAA postseason selections, the NE-10 once again had another sensational year with 48 teams chosen to participate in national tournaments during the year. On top of that, representatives from 34 different swimming and diving, cross country and track & field teams competed for national titles. Of those 48 teams, 13 different Northeast-10 institutions were represented, while nine teams from the conference advanced to at least the national quarterfinal round in national tournament play – a new NE-10 record.
The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.).
From the field of play to inside the classroom, the Northeast-10 honored a number of student-athletes for their academic accomplishments. A record-breaking 73 percent of the league’s 287 athletic teams garnered a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Overall, nearly 59 percent of all conference student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 GPA throughout the 2014-15 academic year and were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll (CHR) as a result. An astonishing 164 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall before 205 more did so in the spring. The Northeast-10 also honored 247 student-athletes as members of its academic all-conference teams.
The conference’s 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and from Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y. Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester and New York City. The Northeast-10 was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in the conference’s latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions. In addition, LIU Post (Brookville, N.Y.) is an associate member of the NE-10 in the sports of field hockey and football.
The Northeast-10 also remains focused on its community endeavors. The conference has built a strong partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses with college sports teams. In 2015, the NE-10 became the first ‘fully-matched’ conference in Division II, as at least one team from each member institution has matched with a Team IMPACT child. More than 60 NE-10 teams currently have matches through Team IMPACT. The conference’s fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish are also more than any other Division II conference in the country over the past decade.
The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student-athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 35 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.
The conference is coming off yet another banner season in 2014-15. The Adelphi women’s lacrosse team repeated as national champions by defeating Lock Haven, 5-4, in the title game. Also, Southern Connecticut’s Chrystle Hill, Georgette Nixon, Sarah Hill and Shatajah Wattely claimed

ADELPHI IN THE NCAAS
• Adelphi Softball has received a total of 15 invites to the NCAA tournament, six while a Division I program and eight at its current Division II status. The Panthers’ longest run at national championships came in back-to-back years in 1984 and 1985 where the Brown and Gold placed fifth in the College World Series. • The 1982 squad was the first to make the NCAAs, losing in the third game to Western Michigan. • Tied for the strongest softball team in Adelphi’s history, the 1984 team made it all the way to the College World Series and finished fifth overall. • The 1988 team was the last Panther team to date to make the College World Series. The Brown and Gold had a final ranking of seventh and lost to Nebraska 5-1 • In 1990, the Panthers made the Division I tournament one final time. The program made the jump to Division II in 1995. • After a 10-year hiatus, the Brown and Gold returned to the NCAA tournament in 2000 - the program’s first appearance at Division II level, under the direction of Head Coach Kate Whalen.
• Three years later, the Panthers returned to the NCAAs and fought their way to the final round, drawing C.W. Post. The Pioneers came out on top, 4-1. • In 2006, the Panthers picked up two wins in the postseason; however, due to inclement weather, the tournament was canceled and finished third in the bracket. • In his only year at the helm, Head Coach Joe Burbridge returned the Brown and Gold to the 2007 tournament, marking the first time since 1988 that the program reached that stage in consecutive years. • Continuing the streak of appearances, Head Coach Paige Smith guided the Panthers back to the 2008 tournament for their 11th appearance as a program. • First-year Head Coach Breanne Nasti guided the Brown and Gold to an East Super Regional appearance, hosted on Janet L. Ficke Field, in 2013 before the Panthers fell in two games to Molloy College. • In her third year, Nasti led the team to its first World Series appearance since 1988. The Panthers won their first game, but dropped the second two to the two teams that would eventually play for the National Championship

Softball Team History Adelphi University’s varsity softball program began in 1972 under the direction of Janet L. Ficke, and such began an era not to be matched by any other Adelphi program. In 17 years at the helm of the softball program, Ficke amassed a 362-160-3 record, five NCAA Tournament berths and three College World Series appearances. Ficke, along with coach Kathryn Raub, led the Panthers to their first ever NCAA tournament appearance in 1982. The Panthers returned two years later to claim its first Regional title, and an eventual fifth place in the NCAA College World Series. Adelphi returned to the World Series again in 1985, finishing fifth for the second time. In 1985, coach Ficke turned over the program to Kathryn Raub, staying on as Associate Head Coach. In 1987, Raub was named Northeast Region Coach of the Year. In 1993 Kate Whalen, formerly the assistant softball and volleyball coach at Fairfield University, took over as coach of the Panthers, successfully transitioning the program from Division I to Division II. She has guided the team to ten winning season in her 11 years at Adelphi. Adelphi competed at the Division II level for the first time in 1995, finishing 13-27 overall. Although it faced some East Coast Conference (ECC) teams in the past, Adelphi officially began ECC play that same year. It did not take Adelphi long to earn conference honors. In 1996, Deanna Ivanicki and Terri Moran were named All-ECC and in 1996 coach Whalen was named the ECC Coach of the Year. The 1997 team set three milestones, finishing with 30 wins, bringing home its first-ever ECC title with a 8-2 win over C.W. Post and its first ECAC Mid-Atlantic title. In 1999, the team set a new season best, finishing 33-18, for its most successful season to-date since becoming a Division II program. The Panthers finished second at the ECC tournament. The 2000 season marked another first, claiming the program’s first ever ECC Regular season

Championship. Adelphi also made its first NCAA tournament appearance as a Division II program, and the team’s first bid in 10 years. The Panthers, 27-20, finished third at Regionals. In 2001, the Panthers again set a new school record for most wins, with a 34-21 overall record and capped with their second ECAC Mid-Atlantic title in three years. In 2002, host Adelphi finished second to Pace University in the ECAC Tournament and second in the ECC tournament with a 31-18-1 overall record. The 2003 team set a new Division II school record for wins in a season, posting a 35-17 mark. The Panthers made their second-ever NCAA DII Tournament appearance and had four players named to the Northeast region team. No. 2 Adelphi again hosted the ECAC Tournament in 2004, finishing third overall. The Panthers went 27-21 on the season and 19-5 in the ECC to a third place regular season finish. The 2005 Panthers saw their post-season dreams cut short with an early exit in the ECC Tournament to Bridgeport, 1-0. Adelphi (25-16) posted its tenth consecutive 20+ win season and received four AllECC selection. Junior Amy Delmore was not only named ECC Player of the Year, but earned AllAmerica second team honors for her outstanding performance in 2005. She is just the third Adelphi player to receive All-America recognition and the first since 1988. In October, 2005, after a successful fund-raising campaign, the softball field was renamed Janet L. Ficke Field. Adelphi returned to the NCAA DII Regional in 2006, finishing third overall. The Panthers won their last tournament game vs. UMass-Lowell, 5-1, but because of rain delays, the Regional was cut short with the winner determined by overall record. Carla Buonviaggio and Amy Delmore earned NCAA Northeast Region All-Tournament honors. Coach
