WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Northeast-10 Conference The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. With the addition of women’s golf in 2014-15, the NE-10 now sponsors a total of 24 sports. The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.). The conference’s 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and from Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y. Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester and New York City. The Northeast-10 was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in the conference’s latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions. In addition, LIU Post (Brookville, N.Y.) is an associate member of the NE-10 in the sports of field hockey and football. The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student-athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. The conference is coming off another successful year, collecting four national titles in 2015-16. Two champions from the NE-10 were crowned at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships during the winter season. First it was American International’s Chandler Cotton, Jr., Kemani Hume, Leakey Kipkosgei and Chad Miller claiming the men’s distance medley relay title with a time of 9:48.02. Then Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro won the women’s 400-meter dash title with a time of 52.34 the following night. Muscaro wasn’t quite finished, however, as she defended her 400-meter dash crown at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, winning her second individual national championship of 2015-16 by finishing the 400 in 51.32, just .03 seconds shy of the meet record. The very next day, Le Moyne defeated Limestone, 8-4, to
win its fifth NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and cap off a perfect 20-0 season. When it came to NCAA postseason selections, the NE-10 once again had another sensational year with 44 teams chosen to participate in national tournaments during the year. In addition, student-athletes from 32 different men’s and women’s golf, swimming and diving, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track & field teams competed for national titles. Of those 44 teams earning NCAA bids, 14 different Northeast-10 institutions were represented. Seven NE-10 teams reached the national semifinal round, while three teams played in their respective sport’s national title game. It was a record year for the Northeast-10 academically in 2015-16 as well. Five NE-10 institutions achieved a department Academic Success Rate (graduation rate) of at least 90 percent. Four achieved a score of 95 percent or better, ranking them in the top seven nationally. A record 61 percent of the league’s student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the spring with 243 posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Another new record was set this summer with the release of Team Academic Excellence awards, as 75 percent of the league’s 292 teams achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NE-10 also honored 247 student-athletes as members of its academic all-conference teams during the fall, winter and spring seasons. The Northeast-10 also remains focused on its community endeavors. The conference has built a strong partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses with college sports teams. In 2015, the NE-10 became the first ‘fully-matched’ conference in Division II, as at least one team from each member institution has matched with a Team IMPACT child. More than 60 NE-10 teams currently have matches through Team IMPACT. The conference’s fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish are also more than any other Division II conference in the country over the past decade. Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 36 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.

Traversi, a native of North Attleboro, Mass., arrived in Garden City after spending two seasons as the head coach at Division III Wheelock College in Boston. In two years, she led a program turnaround, posting the most wins in school history in 2014-15 before shattering that mark with an 18-7 record in 2015-16. Prior to her time at Wheelock, she spent two years as the head coach at Dover-Sherborn High School (2008-10), one season as an assistant coach for the Harvard Crimson (2010-11) and three years as the head coach at Attleboro High School (2011-14). At Dover-Sherborn, she was the Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year in the 2008-09 season, and was a two-time Sun Chronicle Coach of the Year at Attleboro. As part of the Division I staff at Harvard, she provided support in all aspects of recruiting, scouting reports and skill development. As a Division I player at the University of Maine under Sharon Versyp, Traversi led her team to an NCAA tournament appearance, two WNIT appearances and three regular season America East titles. Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation DANNY
McCABE
After a nationwide search, Danny McCabe was appointed Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation at Adelphi in July 2013 by former Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott. In his first two years at the helm of the athletics department, the Panthers continued to set a standard of excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference, winning the school’s second consecutive Presidents’ Cup in 2013-14 before finishing second in 2014-15. In that time, Adelphi claimed seven NE-10 Championships, sent 15 teams to NCAA Tournament play and claimed two NCAA National Championships in women’s lacrosse. In 2015, the softball team reached the Women’s College World Series for the first time as a Division II program, winning the NCAA Division II East 2 Regional on Janet L. Ficke Field before sweeping the Super Regional on the campus of topseeded Southern New Hampshire. In the classroom, 12 student-athletes have been recognized as CoSida Capital One Academic All-District I Team honorees, including five Academic All-Americans from the men’s lacrosse (Nick Watson), women’s lacrosse (Devan Crimi, Alexa Froccaro), women’s soccer (Taylor Groth) and women’s basketball (Kelly Mannix) programs. Furthermore, seven teams earned the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2013-14, while the softball program posted the highest GPA across all three NCAA Divisions; the program followed that up as one of four Panther teams to win an Academic Excellence Award in 2014-15, recording the highest GPA in the history of the award.
McCabe has been instrumental in creating several new positions in the department, beginning with the addition of a varsity women’s golf program and the hiring of Keith Ferrara as the first full-time strength and conditioning coach. In addition, the department created a new strength and conditioning center inside the Center for Recreation and Sports which features all the amenities required for a first-class program. Finally, in 2015, McCabe was chosen to begin a three-year term on the men’s basketball NCAA East Regional Advisory Committee and also serves on the ECAC Board of Directors. McCabe came to Adelphi from Hofstra University, where he was a part of the Pride Intercollegiate Athletic program for eight years, as Executive Associate Athletic Director. He played a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the department and in that role McCabe spearheaded Hofstra’s NCAA Certification process, and played a large role in developing and implementing the University’s five-year plan for athletics. He also served as the chairman of the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals Organizing Committee at Hofstra in 2009 and 2011. In addition, McCabe served as the program administrator for the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, volleyball and the men’s soccer program and had oversight responsibilities for the sports medicine and strength and conditioning departments.
Adelphi University Director of Athletics Bill Altenberg - 1950-51 George Faherty - 1951-66 Jim Bedell - 1966-72 Ron Bazil - 1972-79 Larry Keating - 1979-85 Paul Doherty - 1985-87 Robert Hartwell - 1987-13 Danny McCabe - 2013-Present
In addition to the success in competition and in the classroom, McCabe has been instrumental in expanding Adelphi’s corporate partners, bringing the sponsorships of TD Bank ®, the Whitmore Group, the Greene Turtle, and MetLife ® to the department. In 2015, MetLife Legacy Advisors became the title sponsor of Adelphi’s annual Fall Cocktail Reception, while MetroTeam Outfitters returned as Adelphi’s official gear sponsor and joined the roster of corporate partners as the title sponsor of the annual Ficke Golf Classic. The funds raised at these special events reached record levels, and membership in the Panther Club, the department’s major friend-and-fundraising arm, also doubled in 2015 to nearly 800 members.
Prior to Hofstra, McCabe was at Providence College where he served as Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations from 2000-05. In that capacity, he managed all athletic department marketing, promotions and sales strategies for the Big East institution. Under his guidance, the College experienced increased sponsorship sales and ticket sales and increased the average attendance at Friar men’s basketball games. McCabe also oversaw the Providence Athletic Ticket Office, managed their collegiate licensing program increasing revenue by 133 percent, and worked with the Director of Athletics in the department’s fundraising program.
Before his time at Providence, McCabe served as the University of Miami (FL) Director of Ticket Sales from 1998 to 2000. At Miami, he handled season ticket and group ticket sales strategies for the Hurricane’s football, baseball, and men’s and women’s basketball programs. McCabe also spent time in leadership roles in the marketing departments at both Fairfield University (199498) and Fordham University (1991-92). A 1991 graduate of Providence College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, McCabe earned a MBA degree from Fairfield University in 2004.

Central Suffolk, with beautiful forests and natural inlets, the world’s largest factory outlet center and a huge water park.
There are five distinctive regions in Long Island North Shore, otherwise known as the Gold Coast, with dozens of historic sites dating back to colonial days and Gatsby-era mansions .
North Fork, with an array of vineyards, waterfront ports and farm stands.
South Shore, the Island’s spectator sports and entertainment center, with world-famous Jones and Fire Island Beaches, and home to the New York Islanders.

New York City It is impossible not to find something interesting to do and see in Manhattan. The most renowned of New York City’s five boroughs, Manhattan offers the best of everything— Broadway shows, concerts, sporting events, museums, shops, restaurants, parks, parades, cultural landmarks and one-of-a-kind neighborhoods. New York City is only 30 minutes from the Adelphi University Campus.
