he event took place at Vunene Mine on the 14th of February 2014 Twelve o'clock. Why this day? It is said that February is the Month of Love and its condom month, it was set right on a Valentine's Day. The event was specially organized for the workers and their families concerning chronic diseases such as HIV/AIDS, T.B, Cancer, Cardiac, Sugar Debates etc. Mr. Jonathan Collins emphasised that workers should get tested so that they know their status and be taken with their families to counseling and they should not be discriminated. Getting tested for them is to make sure that they live a life that is free from sickness. Everybody lined up to get tested to check their status and know where they are standing.

They did Tests and screening. “Test and know your status.” these were the words of Mr. Jonathan Collins. There were prizes to whoever did the full house, that means doing all the tests. The mine management put a draw. The winner got a fridge, television set and Microwave oven. An entertainment group from Ermelo “Orphanage Home” presented a Dramatization of an HIV affected family. The tests will go on until the 14th March 2014. In conclusion Mr. Reinholds just said “If you know your status you can manage your life 100% full house.”

Mrs. Mpofu has gone on to secure her own sponsorship that has enabled her to set up in the township. “I would like to see more and more women stand on their own and not depend on Government grants” says Mrs. Mpofu.

Vunene Mine situated in the outskirts of Ermelo in Msukaligwa Local Municipality has done it all. From hosting health events, some in partnership with local business, to actually empowering local business women, not only in nominal terms but with equipment and recurring business to keep their businesses afloat. Rosemary Molefe is the lady who represents Vunene Mine amongst these happy women. She confirmed the sponsorship of Nometha Trading in a Vunene Mine sponsored wellness function that happened last Friday the 14th February as reported on page 2 of this issue.

hanyisa spoke to Ms. Anna Matsane, a local business woman who has benefited from this kind of sponsorship. Matsane is the owner of Nometha Trading which is a local company that manufactures traditional garments and accessories. Recently her business diversified into work-wear, uniforms and other similar garments. Normally such garments will require badges some of which need to be embroidered. This is where Vunene Mine came in. In August 2013 Vunene Mine sponsored Nometha Trading with a state of the art embroidery machine. The machine is computerized and can embroider any logo fed into its computer.
