THE PUBLISHER’S INK

The National Lotteries Commission does not charge for applications or funding It has come to the attention of the NLC that there are syndicates targeting organisations that have applied for funding for good causes. CSA AND KFC CELEBRATE A DECADE OF THE KFC MINI-CRICKET PROGRAMME Cricket South Africa (CSA) and KFC are celebrating a decade of partnership with the start of the 10th KFC Mini-Cricket National Seminar in George, Western Cape.

Thabang Moroe

I cannot thank KFC enough for their unwavering support over such an extended period of time and more importantly for introducing the youth of our nation to an active lifestyle,” concluded Mr. Moroe. “KFC is proud and excited for having reached this incredible milestone for our partnership with Cricket South Africa and the KFC Mini-Cricket programme. We thank our committed partners, CSA and the respective programme structures for their unwavering support to ensure that kids in all communities are introduced to the beautiful game of cricket. We look forward to the many great years in growing the programme and creating even more unforgettable experiences for the KFC MiniCricket kids, the skills they learn from this game are beyond cricket, this game grows leadership, discipline, team work, friendships and this is what our country needs to move it forward.” Lauren Turnbull, Corporate Communications Marketing Manager, KFC South Africa.

Communicate even if it's hard Couples nowadays make a mistake of ignoring their partner and expecting them to understand what's wrong when they're not letting them know there's a problem in the first place. Talk about your feelings and open up. Don't shove it inside and act like there's nothing wrong. Are you feeling jealous and insecure? Let your partner know. Had a bad day at work? Let your partner know. Did your partner do something that you didn't like? Let him/her know.

Look, your partner cannot magically read your mind. Stop expecting them to "figure out" what's the problem when you're not even telling them in the first place. How do you expect to get taken care of and be understood when you're confusing the hell out of them with your actions? That's why good communication is essential for healthy relationships. You both have to be comfortable listening to each other. Talk about what's bothering you. Be honest with yourself and open up. That way, your partner will understand you from a rational and emotional standpoint.

This celebration most importantly celebrates the coaches and coordinators who all volunteer freely giving up their time and expertise to make the lives and experiences of the kids a happy one while they play Mini-Cricket. These selfless people need to be applauded for the commendable work they have done throughout the past 10 years always bringing passion and commitment to the game. “KFC Mini-Cricket is the entry level for the majority of our cricketers into our talent development pipeline and the success stories are plenty. The overwhelming majority of our players who have made up our under-19 World Cup squads in recent times, including our World Champions of 2014, were first introduced to cricket through this programme. There are memories created that will live forever, notably through the involvement of our children as ball boys and girls and participants of the coin toss at KFC T20 International matches and during the various interactive initiatives.

Austin Menzi Moyo Snr.

The key is to be honest with your feelings and talk about it. If you can't communicate effectively, the understanding will dissolve and you'll be left with unnecessary fights that'll lead to even more emotional distress.

“This is truly something to celebrate together, KFC has been a loyal sponsor and supporter of South African cricket sponsoring the game at many levels from grassroots development cricket, right up to the sponsorship of the Standard Bank Proteas T20 International series,” commented CSA Chief Executive Thabang Moroe. “The KFC Mini-Cricket programme is one of the most impactful and significant development programmes in the South African sporting landscape and goes far beyond the game of cricket. It brings youngsters from across our diverse country together and not only introduces them to our wonderful game of cricket but also allows them to get active. This is a very important programme contributing to the social cohesion of our nation.”

Thinking Allowed

Be clear and transparent with what you have to say. Don't interrupt your partner when he/she is talking. Remember, patience is key and you have to be willing to listen carefully and with open ears in order to be understood. Tumi Sekhukhune

Ditch the 5 hours Inverter & Use 12 volt Gadgets Edvertorial Load shedding is unavoidable especially if one or two generators breakdown. This is when it becomes absolutely necessary to implement rotational load-shedding. The power utility keeps alerting South Africans of risks of load shedding once there is a shortage of capacity due to the loss of generating units at any of its power stations. The power utility has also received additional megawatts than projected from wind power plants. At a media briefing, Eskom shared its Winter Plan where it indicated that it expects to implement 26 days of Stage 1 load shedding during the winter period, depending on the level of unplanned breakdowns. Eskom has appealed to residents and businesses to use electricity smartly and sparingly. “By rallying together we can contribute to a saving of up to 500MW, which is equivalent of 1 unit at a power station. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand,” it said. With innovation, we can all assist to conserve electricity on the grid through the use of affordable 12 volt gadgets that do not require the use of the traditional inverter. The article below will assist you to understand. 12 Volt Gadgets now in the SA market As load-shedding puts uncertainty in the consumer’s mind, and as solar installation prices remain high, mainly because of a large requirement of solar pannels and batteries coupled with a power consuming inverter that gives you only 5 hours of power, 12 volt appliances like 12v fridge, 12v freezer, 12v kettle, 12v hot plate stove (or gas stove), 12v dry iron with spray, 12v plasma TV (rechargeable), 12v sound systems (rechargeable), 12v hair dryer, 12v hair straightener, 12v led bulbs and motion sensing security lights etc... which avoids the use of an inverter are now available in the SA market. While the traditional inverter requires it's own power to run before it steps up power to run 220v appliances and has limitations depending how many watts the inverter is, 12 volt gadgets take the power directly from the batteries and work for the longest periods. During a power outage, with an inverter, one can have power for up to only 5 hours on a standard system, but on 12 volt gadgets, one can run for the whole night and during the day can still run all appliances with little limitations on a small inexpensive system. Coupled with a gas stove and solar geyser, most house holds can literally go off grid for much less that previously quoted. For more information on these gadgets send a WhatsApp message to 084 334 4627.
