Hello members, Welcome to the Autumn edition of ‘Sports Pony’. Unfortunately due to the late notice given by the ACE Group that they would no longer assess ponies for the ASPR, we were unable to organise an alternative for our breeders. We are currently

forward to bringing you all news on a proposed tour shortly. I hope that you enjoy the photo reports of some of the recent events that have taken place this season. It would be great if members could take a few minutes to send in results and photos of their ponies for us all to enjoy.

height certificate. As Equestrian Australia has height rules and regulations in place for Pony Dressage, any pony that may be over height will be picked up at events. Deleting the height certificate requirement also makes it much easier for pony owners to register brood mares and retired stallions. We would also love to see more members submitting results for the Annual High Point and Roll of Merit Awards. Entry is free for members and registered ponies and results can easily be submitted online - you have to be in it to win it! Safe riding, Margie Kuiper - Federal Secretary

Equestrian Australia Equipment Annex Update In conjunction with Section 2 of the Equestrian Australia Dressage Rules updated in January 2016, the Australian Dressage Committee seeks to provide the following information for clarification of permitted equipment for official competition. This document is not intended to imply approval if the target item of equipment is not listed. Wherever possible, the ADC is guided by rulings from the FEI Equipment Committee. Last Update: 10th March 2016

Property Identification Code (PIC No.) All states and territories in Australia (other than the ACT) require (compulsory by legislation) property owners that have one or more horses on the property to register for a Property Identification Code or PIC. Organisers of many events have already indicated they will keep a record of the PIC's of horses that enter, for bio-security purposes. (This already occurs in Queensland and for some events in Victoria and NSW.) If you have not already applied for a PIC, click on the relevant link below for the state you are in.

Congratulations to the winners of the Annual High Point Awards for 2015 and the ponies that have earned Roll of Merit Awards to the end of 2015. Entry is FREE for the 2016 Annual High Point Awards. No entry form required. All you have to do is submit results from events on the very easy to fill in online result form. Points earned by the pony are also recorded for the Roll of Merit Awards. These points accumulate over time and can be earned by any ASPR registered assessed or non-assessed pony. Owner must be a current financial member. You get more points from State and National level events so even if you only go to a few events a year, it is well worth submitting the results online as they add up surprisingly quickly. Beautiful engraved glass plaques are available to all ponies that achieve their Bronze and Silver Award with the added bonus of the Gold ROM Award winner receiving not only the plaque, but also an inscribed rug to commemorate your ponies accomplishments. Points are gained from events that the pony competes in, regardless of rider. The Awards are for recognition of the Sports Pony so click on the following link and start submitting your results. Annual High Point & ROM Awards

Raven Lodge Aura and Natasha Moody began their successful partnership in 2011 when Natasha was aged 10 and the pretty coloured 13.2hh Arabian derivative mare was 5 yo. Aura was prepared for her new young rider by Natasha’s mum, Lisa Hocking who competed successfully at a few official events with the mare. By the coloured Australian Pony stallion Raven Lodge Born Brave, she is out of a derivative mare by the pure Arabian stallion Allanooka Omar. Natasha’s very first competition in her new partnership with Aura was at the ASPR Victorian Pony Challenge in 2011 where she gained her first points in the journey towards the coveted Gold Roll of Merit Award. A very successful year competing in dressage and jumping competitions saw the Bronze ROM awarded at the end of 2012 as well as winning both of the ASPR Annual High Point Awards for Junior Showjumping and Junior Eventing/Combined Training. The points continued to mount with Natasha and Aura competing in dressage, combined training and dressage in 2013. The combination had wins at the Victorian Interschool State Championship and Young Rider State Championship, culminating with Natasha realising her goal of winning the Rising Star Novice Pony class at the 2013 Dressage Festival. At the end of 2013, Aura had achieved enough points to be awarded her Silver Roll of Merit Award. They also won the Annual High Point Award for Junior Dressage. It is always a long slow journey to attain the ultimate prize of the Gold Roll of Merit and it was towards the end of 2015 when Aura finally gained enough points to be awarded an inscribed woollen rug and special plaque to commemorate her journey with Natasha. Just after gaining the Gold ROM, Natasha parted with her lovely pinto mare and we sincerely hope that Aura’s new junior rider Sophie Taylor will soon start her journey with us towards achieving a second Gold ROM. At only 12 years of age, Aura is certainly young enough to do it all again.

Raven Lodge Aura is the fifth pony to achieve the Gold Roll of Merit Award since the ASPR’s inception in 2004. Other ponies to have achieved this award are Marena Night Sky, Wilorah Don Arby, Owendale Fleet Street and Burnham Brooke Bewitched. Entry is free to all ASPR members and registered ponies with points for both the Annual High Point and ROM Awards gained by the pony, regardless of rider. The owner of the pony must be a current member for points to accumulate.

All ponies registered with the ASPR since its inception in 2004, have been entered into the online stud book. If the pony was assessed on one of the annual tours, scores are also listed together with the grading obtained. In order for a pedigree to be listed in the ASPR online stud book, proof of breeding must be provided. This is usually done through a registration with another breed group by providing a copy of the relevant registration certificate. If a pony is not registered with any other group or society, then a service certificate accompanying the application of the pony to be registered may be accepted. The online stud book has many features that can assist breeders in their research of pedigrees of ponies bred both in Australia and from other countries. A major feature is the listing of other registrations for our registered ponies. If a pedigree is not yet fully extended within the ASPR stud book, breeders can very easily look up other online stud books for further information. The online stud book has numerous search functions available including searching for ponies by breed. For example, breeders can obtain a list of all German Riding Pony cross ponies or all Welsh ponies listed within the stud book. Owners who have registered ponies with the ASPR can look up their membership status and if their stud prefix is registered. The Equine ID Document provides detailed pedigree information and assessment scores and can be used by the owner to record major performance results as well as vital veterinary information—all in the one document. Registration of a non-assessed pony is also available with the issue of an Equine ID Document and listing in the online stud book part of the registration process.

Danilo 80 (x Dornik B x Power Boy), the mount of former German pony team rider Nadine Krause has begun the 2016 season well with his new 14 yo rider Tabea Schroer. The combination won both the Individual and Team tests at the Drachten CDIP in the Netherlands as well as at the CDIP at Stadl Paura, Austria. Krause’s other top pony, Cyrill WE is now being competed as NK Cyrill and is being ridden by 16 yo Inga Katharina Schuster of Germany. Champ of Class (x FS Champion de Luxe x Dornik B) is now being ridden by 13 yo German pony rider Valentina Pistner. The 12 yo gelding had formerly been a member of the Dutch Pony Team where he achieved several European Pony Championship medals with Dutch rider Lisanne Zoutendijk and a Gold in 2012 with Sanne Vos. Ridden to a great deal of success by Semmieke Rothenberger, the now 14 yo Westphalian mare Golden Girl (x FS Don’t Worry x Dancer) has been ridden at CDIP level by German pony rider Liselott Marie Linsenhoff for the last 12 months. The combination recently won all of the FEI pony tests at the CDIP at Jerez de La Frontera (Spain). The KNHS FEI Pony Cup in the Netherlands is a show circuit for Dutch FEI pony level riders with a series of qualifiers and a final. The qualifiers are team observation trials and count for squad selection and participation in CDIP events. At the first qualifier in Nieuw en St Joosland, Daphne van Peperstraten started her 2016 campaign and last year as a pony rider on Don Camillo du Bois (x Dornik B) by finishing on top of the 32 rider field with a score of 74.15%, well ahead of her nearest competitor, Zoe Kuintjes on Elin’s Noncisdador (x Nostradamus) on 70.68%. On her second pony, Wonderful Girl (x Wimbledon) van Peperstraten competed at the CDIP at Nieuw en St Joosland winning the Pony Team test from a total of 53 combinations as well as the FEI Pony freestyle. Wonderful Girl also recently won the 2016 Dutch Indoor Championship and as at the end of March, is placed 2nd on the FEI Pony rankings.

Laminitis, Cushings Disease, Insulin Resistance, Typing Up, Gastric Ulcers, PSSM or just want a super cool feed suitable for Ponies to Elite Athletes or a Fibre feed that is a Completely balanced ration.

Elin’s Noncisdador (x Nostradamus) won the Individual Pony Test at this event, in front of Wonderful Girl. At the CDIP held in Wellington, Florida, only two ponies competed in the FEI Pony classes. The New Forest stallion Prince Z (x Make My Day) ridden by Farah Rizvi won the Team Test with Bohdjan (x Prins Baccarat) ridden by Hanna Irons placing second. Bohdjan was the only pony competing in the Individual Test. With the 2016 European Pony Championships to be held on 17-21 August in Vilhelmsborg, Denmark, results achieved from the CDIOP Saumur, France are all important for the team selectors. Dominating the competition with wins in all 3 of the pony tests was the new combination of Danilo 80 and Tabea Schroer.

With internal tracks and lasered areas already setup, the Elmore Events Centre was the ideal location to develop a top level equestrian venue for northern and central Victoria. Many hours of hard work and dedication by the Elmore Events Centre Committee and Rich River Equestrian Club members have gone into presenting Elmore Equestrian Park as it is today with the Club contributing over $100,000 towards improvements with funds raised at annual events. The next major improvement on the agenda is a sprinkler system for all of the dressage arenas which should be installed in the next few months.

In 2007 several members from the HRCAV affiliated Rich River Equestrian Club met with Elmore Field Days Committee members and discussed the idea of establishing an equestrian park on part of their 300 ha site.

Cherrington Mendolsen

This area of country Victoria used to have a number of very active EA clubs running events but numbers have dwindled over the years. EA members were having to travel many hours to the metropolitan areas to compete however the lack of events in the area has now been addressed by the newly formed Elmore Equestrian Club hosting several competitions this year. The Elmore Equestrian Club will also be contributing towards improvements to the venue.

Winning both Pony Preliminary tests and the overall Championship was the Riding Pony gelding Beckworth Commanding Dynasty (Beckworth Rising Command/Colbeach Solitaire (Imp)) ridden by Stephanie Gillespie. Reserve Champion was the pinto pony Lacework Illusion JM ridden by Montana O’Riley. The Pony Novice Championship winner was the grey Welsh B gelding Karanga Dallas (Karanga Riverdance/ Karanga Baby Blue), owned and ridden by Alex Bethell. Reserve Champion went to the New Forest gelding Annecy Park Ambition (Erinskay Burberry Brown/Pahake Neon) ridden by Lisa Ellerton. Winning her second Championship for the day was Alex Bethell taking out the Elementary Pony title with her Welsh B stallion Cherrington Mendolsen (Cherrington Mozart/Panteg Flounce). Reserve Champion was the Palomino warmblood cross gelding Mr Buckmeister ridden by Kirsten Lingard. The Medium Pony Championship was won by the part bred New Forest gelding, Darlton Park Vancouver (River Valley Tiptoe/Arinlea Royal Obsession) ridden by Camilla Hansen. Baxters Grand Image ridden by Georgia Welch was Reserve Champion.

The inaugural event of the EA affiliated club was Round 1 of the Horseland Dressage Championships held on 16th April with separate Championships for horses and ponies and classes from Preliminary to FEI.

Baxter’s Grand Image was the Reserve Champion Medium Pony. Now rising 9 yo, the gelding Riding Pony gelding by Whiterose Valentino out of a Rotherwood Footlight mare has progressed from Young Pony classes. He was the winner of the 5 yo Young Pony class and Champion of Champions at the 2011 Dressage & Jumping With The Stars event and is still owned and ridden by Georgia Welch.

The 2016 Sydney CDI held in early April saw several ponies competing at elite level. Although the only pony competing in the CDN PSG Pony class, Riverlands Classique ridden by Rochelle King-Andrews competed in the draw amongst the horses scoring a competitive 62.719% which would have had him in 11th place out of 16, a great effort at this level. Young Horse/Pony classes were also held at the event with the German Riding Pony bred TF Don’t Ask (x Don Philino WE) winning Round 1 for the 4 yo’s on 7.92. She is owned by Maggie Hitchcock and was ridden by Grace Kay. Round 2 for the 4 yo’s was won by the Welsh D gelding Carwyn Monte Carlo ridden by Robbie Soster and owned by Sancha Butler. Fresh from their win at D&JWTS, Jocelyn King’s imported GRP mare FS Carry Gold was ridden by Sara Price to a win scoring 7.54 in Round 1 of the 5 yo’s . FS Carry Gold went on to also win Round 2. Also backing up his win from D&JWTS was the Welsh gelding Bamborough Jabiluka scoring 7.52 in Round 1 of the 6 yo Young Ponies and 7.72 in Round 2. The overall Young Pony Championship was awarded to the 4 yo winner, Carwyn Monte Carlo. In the Advanced competition ponies competed in with the horses and Kate Barton’s imported GRP Cheval de Luxe performed exceptionally well against some of Australia’s top horses. Ridden by Sara Price, he placed 11th out of 27 in the 5.2 and a brilliant 5th in the 5.3 with a score of 68.421%. The winner, Don Dancier scored 71.184%. Also competing in the Advanced competition was Sydney Evans riding Dara Park Tequila Sunrise placing extremely well with a 13th out of 27 in the 5.2 and 11th in the 5.3.

In 2015, the ASPR hosted official Pony Dressage at the prestigious Barastoc HOTY Show for the first time and for 2016, expanded the schedule to an open programme including Young Horse/Pony qualifiers with good entry numbers yielding a strong competition. Our judges remarked on the high standard of horses and ponies at the event.

Champion Preliminary Pony Kapeta Kip

Winning the Pony Preliminary Championship was the ever young 19 yo New Forest gelding Kapeta Kip (x Forestway Royal Ascot (Imp) ridden by Alexandra Diprose. Reserve Champion went to Eliza Harvey on her Riding Pony Heatherton Park Surprise (x Brandarra Fagin). The Pony Novice Champion was awarded to the Riding Pony gelding Kolbeach Royal Whisper (x Fernleigh Fine Print) ridden by Olivia Gillespie with strong scores that would have placed them 3rd in both tests in a strong Open section. Winning reserve champion was the Welsh C gelding Scotsonfold Park Rum Tyme (x Acheron Rum Truffle) and ridden by Annie Creed.

The annual Juravon Park Dressage Club Autumn Championships were held on the weekend of 5-6 March and although pony entries weren’t high, the majority of the winning ponies scored exceptionally well compared to the open horses. The Preliminary Pony Champion was Lacework Illusion JM ridden by Montana O’Riley. Tilby Park Tattle Tails ridden by Beck Kent in Reserve Champion.

The 2015 Saddleworld Dressage Festival held in mid December saw very good pony entries in the higher levels. 13 ponies contested the Preliminary Championship with the outright winner of both tests being the coloured 4 yo gelding Wellbrook Jigsaw ridden by Sally Shaw. Wellbrook Jigsaw is by the ASPR premium graded stallion in Tasmania, Wellbrook Fire & Ice. Reserve Champion was awarded to the South Australian palomino Welsh cross gelding Class Vintage (x Amaranda Migaloo) ridden by Kylie Watson. The Novice Pony Championship saw 18 ponies competing for the title with the imported German Riding Pony mare Bieni Bo owned by Carol Haynes and ridden by Madison Tristram winning the Championship on a countback from the Welsh D gelding Barringa Alexander ridden by Sarah French. 15 ponies contested the Elementary Pony Championship resulting in a 3-way countback for the Championship. Competition was very close with the title awarded to the imported German Riding Pony stallion Steendieks Champ of Glory owned by Carol Haynes and ridden by Madison Tristram by just under 0.5%. Reserve Champion went to the warmblood/riding pony cross gelding Roseglen Toytown owned by Alexandra Hanson and ridden by Allison O’Neill. Making the trip down to Werribee from Sydney was the imported German Riding Pony stallion Cheval de Luxe to win both the Medium and the Advanced Pony Championships. Ridden by Sara Price and owned by Kate Barton of Narbethong Equestrian Park in WA, Cheval de Luxe (x FS Champion de Luxe) posted an excellent 70.592% in the 5.3 test and just under 70% in the Mediums. Reserve Champion Medium Pony was the Welsh B gelding Mithril Vagabond (x Owendale Brandyman) ridden by Louise Maguire. Eleven ponies competed in the Medium Championship. The Reserve Champion Advanced Pony was the Riding Pony gelding View Bank Boyd (x Silkwood Puss N Boots) owned and ridden by Amelia Sadler.

The Elementary Pony Championship was contested by 3 ponies with Sarah French and her Welsh D gelding Barringa Alexander winning both tests. The pony outscored the horses in the Elementary 3.2 with 68.820 and achieved the second highest score in the 3.3. Skye Wright riding Burrowa Bashar was reserve. Six ponies competed in the Novice Championship with Rumello Smokey ridden by Tina Davey winning both tests for the top award. Again, good scores placed Smokey 2nd against the open horses in the 2.2 and 3rd in the 2.3, a great effort. Jenny Gilbert riding Alpine Park Rumba was awarded reserve champion. At the Dressage Festival Fundraiser held on 20th February, and as per the new EA Dressage Event rules, ponies competed in with the horses. Ashleigh Atwell rode Heatherton Park Bounce to 2nd place in the Preliminary 1.2 and 4th in the 1.3. In the Novice section, Kate Uniacke rode her Weston Park Composer for 2nd in the 2.2 and 3rd in the 2.3 amongst some very good horses. Sarah French rode Barringa Alexander for a 2nd place in the Elementary 3.2 class. In the Medium classes, Mandy Heather riding her Bluebirds Fine Design placed 2nd in both tests with Jorja Beard-Adams riding Kerrie Ford’s stallion Fluer de Lys Jack Daniel for two 4th places. A great effort by all the ponies amongst open horses. At the Boneo Park Classic held in January, there was five full days of competition including Open and Pony Dressage, PE and HRCAV dressage classes. Kate Barton’s imported GRP stallion Cheval de Luxe won the Pony Advanced 5.2 with a score of 65.619%, which would have placed him 8th in a very strong open advanced class of 17 horses. In the 5.3, Cheval de Luxe scored 68.820 which would have placed him 2nd in the open section with some of Australia’s best horses, a fantastic effort.

Sept; 2008

The first 4 year old Material Class was held with the prestigious 2009 PSI Dressage and Jumping with the Stars at Werribee Park NEC on Thursday 26th March. Due to the short notice of this class to pony owners, permission was gained to allow the 4 year old Material class at our planned Young-stock Challenge to be a qualification for the ponies. Unfortunately, the Youngstock Challenge had to be cancelled due to lack of entries.

to junior member Ellen Sherwood and Kapeta Kip on being chosen to receive ASPR sponsorship to attend the 2008 Australian Youth Showjumping Festival at Nowra on on 27-29 September The ASPR has sponsored all of the pony jumping classes at this event as well as a special inscribed woolen rug for the winner of the Overall High Score Pony Showjumper. We wish Ellen and Kip the best of luck and look forward to reading Ellen’s report when she returns.

Despite all of the setbacks with several dressage competitions cancelled due to extreme weather conditions , six ponies were entered and accepted, four of which are registered with the ASPR. Glenian Park Kaluda Gold, a buckskin Arabian pony stallion from Sydney has a Preliminary assessment as a 2 yo from the 2007 tour; another buckskin stallion, the imported German Riding Pony Hilkens Nougat Cream is Premier graded from his assessment in Germany; Beckworth Strolling Carnival, a chestnut Riding Pony gelding was assessed on the 2009 Tour as was the New Forest gelding Habafield Beacon. The other two ponies entered were Tamaric Daisy and Dunelm Chorus. Unfortunately just prior to the event, the owners of Hilkens Nougat Cream had to be scratched on veterinary advice. The top 3 scoring ponies went through to the following day where they were ridden by the guest rider, Charlotta Stibbard to decide the final placings. Scores (out of 10) from the class are as follows :

Glenian Park Kaluda Gold Habafield Beacon Beckworth Strolling Carnival Tamaric Daisy Dunelm Chorus

Trot Walk Canter General Conformation Guest Total Impression Rider 6.2 6.5 7.0 6.9 6.6 8.0 14.68 6.4 7.5 6.4 6.5 6.6 9.0 15.76 7.0 6.8 6.7 7.0 6.6 7.6 14.42 6.0 6.0 6.5 6.3 6.5 6.26 5.7 6.5 5.3 5.8 6.4 5.86

Congratulations to Carolyn Henley who made the long trip down with Kaluda Gold from Sydney, Ruth and Chris Feltoe with Habafield Beacon and rider Justine Greer. Also to Cherie Mills with Beckworth Strolling Carnival and his rider, Jacqui Lewis. We can look forward to the 2010 D&JWTS where they will again hold a 4 yo Material pony class with the addition of a 5 yo Young Pony class. It will be great to see the numbers increase and also the successful ponies from this year progress through to the 5yo class. There will be an opportunity to get some experience for ponies with Material and Young Pony classes at the 2009 Victorian Pony Challenge on 1-2 August at Werribee NEC. The ASPR are currently seeking permission from the D&JWTS Committee for our classes to be qualifiers for next years event.

Two of our youngest members recently ‘starred’ with their ponies at “Dressage with the Stars”. (2008) Fresh from their win in the 2008 National Young Riders Pas de Deux, Emma Copley riding Imperial Corona and Sophie Whitworth on Zachariah Silver Royal were invited to put on a display ride at the very prestigious DWTS event, which from all accounts was a huge success with the large crowd. Sophie has certainly been clocking up the miles with her pony Zach. After attending the National YR’s Championships, they turned around and headed to the Elmore Events Centre to compete for her zone at the PCAV State Dressage and Showjumping Championships. Zach and Sophie scored well in their tests, posting the highest score for the day with a 92%! Sophie’s team placed 2nd overall.

PONY DRESSAGE IN 2005!!!!!! Most of you would be aware that in August of this year the National Dressage Committee Above - Glenian Park Kaluda Gold thatBeacon as of the 1st of January 2005 adults Above agreed right - Habafield would Strolling be permitted to compete on ponies in Right - Beckworth Admiral Official Pony Dressage. Many thanks to Kerrie Ford for allowing us to use her photos.

The ASPR exhibited some of our ponies and an information stand in the breeders village; if the weather had of been kind it would have been an ideal set-up but unfortunately our stand was looking rather windswept by Sunday afternoon. A crowd favourite was Barnon Imperial Jack, owned, trained and ridden by Norm Clark. Jack’s temperament is superb and he had a constant flow of little tackers barely able to reach his chest, in and out of his stable all day.
